Top 10 Flags with Misleading Symbols / Elements On Them

The Top Ten
1 Hawaii Hawaii is the 50th and most recent state of the United States of America, receiving statehood on August 21, 1959.

UK has nothing to do with an island they didn't even colonize at the time

The flag of this U.S. state bears the Union Jack of the United Kingdom!

2 Serbia Serbia, officially the Republic of Serbia, is a landlocked country in Southeastern and Central Europe, situated at the crossroads of the Pannonian Plain and the Balkans. It shares land borders with Hungary to the north, Romania to the northeast, Bulgaria to the southeast, North Macedonia to the south, Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina to the west, and Montenegro to the southwest, and claiming a border with Albania through the disputed territory of Kosovo. Serbia with Kosovo has about 8.6 million inhabitants. Its capital Belgrade is also the largest city.

Interesting how a number of consecutive flags listed seem to hint towards monarchy yet have very different governmental systems. Maybe they were going for something completely different in that case or were a monarchy in the past?

A great flag but Serbia isn't a monarchy and the crown is misleading

Why is Denmark's flag (or at least a similar version) in the shield?

3 Montenegro

1) Montenegro isn't a monarchy and the crown is misleading
2) there aren't lions in Montenegro and this is also misleading.

You forgot a thing, there aren't beige two-headed birds there either lol

4 Spain Spain, or the Kingdom of Spain, is a country in southwestern Europe with parts of territory in the Atlantic Ocean and across the Mediterranean Sea. The largest part of Spain is situated on the Iberian Peninsula; its territory also includes the Canary Islands in the Atlantic Ocean, the Balearic Islands in the Mediterranean Sea, the autonomous cities of Ceuta and Melilla, and several minor overseas territories also scattered along the Moroccan coast of the Alboran Sea. The country's mainland is bordered to the south by Gibraltar; to the south and east by the Mediterranean Sea; to the north by France, Andorra and the Bay of Biscay; and to the west by Portugal and the Atlantic Ocean.

There aren't lions in Spain!
However, I understand the symbolism of the lion. I love this flag, one of my all time favorites.

I also think it's one of the weaker in Europe

5 Vojvodina

Awesome flag but Vojvodina isn't a monarchy and this crown doesn't make sense

6 Santiago

Gorgeous flag but:
1) Chile isn't a monarchy and the crown is unfitting

2) there aren't lions in Santiago, Chile

7 Sicily

Is this how people in Sicily look like? Why this woman has 3 legs? Humans usually have 2 legs...Oh, and I see only legs and a head, there's no body... Ahh, I got it! She's a superwoman!
It's time to stop guessing: the flag was first adopted in 1282 and these 3 legs were supposed to represent the three corners of the island.
Cool. But that's really hard to guess.

Wow... That's one of the most unusual looking flags I've ever seen. I need to get out more.

I am sicilian and I look like this. It's a very sexy look.

8 Nova Scotia Nova Scotia is a Canadian province located on the east coast of Canada, and the province is surrounded by two other provinces: New Brunswick, and Prince Edward Island.

It's a Canadian province and I am sure there aren't lions in Canada

Lots of mountain lions in Canada.

9 New Brunswick

Another Canadian province and again, there aren't lions in Canada, except for the ones in the zoo

10 Bosnia and Herzegovina Bosnia and Herzegovina, abbreviated BiH or B&H, sometimes called Bosnia–Herzegovina and often known informally as Bosnia, is a country at the crossroads of south and southeast Europe, located in the Balkans. The capital and largest city is Sarajevo. Bosnia and Herzegovina borders Serbia to the east, Montenegro to the southeast, and Croatia to the north and southwest. In the south it has a 24 kilometres (15 miles) long coast, exiting on the Adriatic Sea within the Mediterranean, around the town of Neum. Bosnia, which is the inland region of the country, has a moderate continental climate with hot summers and cold, snowy winters. In the central and eastern regions of the country, the geography ...read more.

Deep blue and yellow, with stars, is often associated with the European Union and its flag(s) / logos. But Bosnia and Herzegovina isn't a member of the European Union (as of 2018).
Flags aren't the same but I find a strong resemblance.

At least Kosovo's makes sense seeing as it's a map of the country, this country makes much less sense

The Contenders
11 Antarctica
12 Saskatchewan Saskatchewan is a prairie and boreal province in western Canada, the only province without a natural border.

Never seen lions in Canada (the ones in the zoo don't count)

13 The Isle of Man

It resembles the Sicily flag because it was derived from it but this one is even more bizarre. You can't even guess it's a flag. It looks like a logo of a gymnastics championship or even Paralympic Games...

14 Cuba Cuba, officially the Republic of Cuba, is a sovereign state comprising the island of Cuba as well as Isla de la Juventud and several minor archipelagos.

I think this is considered misleading because it looks similar to the Flag of the United States when actually Cuba has traditionally hated the United States.

15 Lombardy

Is this a flag or a logo of company for toys and games?

16 Prince Edward Island

A province in Canada, again, with a lion on it

17 Puerto Rico

I didn't add this and Cuba and I don't know what is viewed as misleading in them
