Best NFL Running Backs Going Into the 2018 Season

Running back was a surprise last year. So many had 1,000+ yard seasons in 2017. Some were veterans, others were merely rookies. Things have changed during the offseason however. Who remains the best? We’re looking at the top ten best NFL running backs going into the 2018 season.
The Top Ten
1 Le’Veon Bell

Bell outranks Gurley due to veteran experience. While he is in the midst of a contract dispute, there's no denying what a force he is. 1,291 yards rushing for a career high nine touchdowns. If Pittsburgh doesn't give him what he wants, he could be the biggest free agent on the market next year.

2 Todd Gurley Todd Gurley II is an American football running back for the Atlanta Falcons of the National Football League.

In his third season, Gurley had over 2,000 yards from scrimmage. Combining receiving and rushing touchdowns, he had 19 in 2017. Just imagine what he'll be in 2018.

3 David Johnson David Jerome Johnson Sr. is an American football running back for the Houston Texans of the National Football League. He was drafted by the Cardinals in the third round of the 2015 NFL Draft. He played college football at Northern Iowa.

The Cardinals are expecting a lot from Johnson this year, coming off of a season on injured reserve. But look back to his 2016 season. 1,200+ yards rushing and 16 touchdowns, plus an additional 4 receiving touchdowns. That makes 20 touchdowns overall, and this season, Johnson wants to surpass those numbers.

4 Ezekiel Elliott Ezekiel Elijah Elliott is an American football running back for the Dallas Cowboys of the National Football League. He played college football at Ohio State, where he earned second-team All-America honors in 2015.

Even during a 2017 season in which he missed six games due to suspension, Elliott still racked up 983 yards rushing for 7 touchdowns. With the Cowboys offense short of quality wide receivers, they will have to rely more on the run game in 2018. That'll give Elliott a chance to rebound.

Eliot is the is the best running back by far

5 Alvin Kamara

2017's offensive rookie of the year will go into 2018 with more responsibility, and a chance to prove himself more than he already has. He's just one of the many mid round running backs that have truly produced over the years.

6 Kareem Hunt

He started on a hot streak, then fell, and got back up again at the end of the season. Hunt had 1,327 yards rushing for 8 touchdowns, plus an additional 3 receiving touchdowns. With Kansas City starting a new quarterback in 2018, the run game may have to step up, just in case Patrick Mahomes doesn't live up to his hype.

7 Melvin Gordon Melvin Gordon III is an American football running back for the Denver Broncos of the National Football League.

Gordon will be valuable to a loaded Chargers team ready for a playoff run. With lack of depth at tight end and only one true receiving threat, Gordon's workload will increase in 2018.

8 LeSean McCoy LeSean Kamel McCoy also known as "Shady" is an American football running back for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers of the National Football League.

I'm sitting here wondering whether McCoy will be suspended at all this season due to an off- field issue. Other than that, McCoy has been pretty good, but age will take its toll at some point.

9 Devonta Freeman Devonta Freeman is an American football running back for the Atlanta Falcons of the National Football League.

Freeman is part of a backfield of two reliable running backs, which lessens his value, but his skills remain a plus. He's been a sturdy back for a few years, so I believe he'll have more carries than his backfield counterpart, Tevin Coleman.

10 Jordan Howard

Howard is one of the most underrated backs in the NFL. He's had two 1,000+ yard seasons already, and this is only his third year. I sense a breakout year for him in 2018.

This dude is a BEAST.I had him in madden and he rushed 99 yards about 5 times. If he is better in real life than madden,he should be in the pro bowl

The Contenders
11 Leonard Fournette Leonard Joseph Fournette III is an American football running back for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers of the National Football League.

The Jags will need him to rush a lot, because Bortles is a trash QB.

12 Tarik Cohen

This guy can run FAST

13 Dalvin Cook
14 Derrick Henry
15 Phillip Lindsay Phillip Lindsay is an American football running back for the Indianapolis Colts of the National Football League.
16 Saquon Barkley
