11 Human Torch The Human Torch is a fictional superhero appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics.

I AM NOT TALKING ABOUT THE FANTASTIC FOUR CHARACTER. Let me just make that clear. I am talking about the android Human Torch introduced in Marvel's first ever comic. (They were called Timely back then, but I digress.) He was technically their first ever superhero, being featured in the first story. However he fell out of popularity around the 50s after the superhero craze died down. In the 60s, when the Marvel Age of Comics brought heroes back, the Fantastic Four was created with its own Human Torch, dooming the original to obscurity.

12 Speed Saunders

You know how I said Marvel forgot their first character? Well, he may still be known somewhere, but this guy...DC's first...he's been TOTALLY forgotten. He was in the first story in Detective Comics number 1 in 1937-a full year before Superman hit comics pages. Back then the comics were actual detective stories, with Speed being one of the detectives. After Superman and Batman started picking up popularity, the detective stories started to lose popularity. Speed's final appearance was in 1941 and he has never been used since.
