Pinocchio (1940) Characters: GOOD to EVIL

egnomac Based off of WickedBinge's videos of charters from Good to Evil Iv'e decided to do a few of my own and see which characters are the most good, which ones are the most evil and which ones stand in the middle based on the characters morality for the first one I will be doing is the classic Disney movie Pinocchio.

GOOD

Most GOOD: The Blue Fairy
Starting off the list as the most good is the Blue Fairy who brings Pinocchio to life via Geppetto's wish and lays down the ground work on what Pinocchio must do become a real boy, obviously the nicest of the characters in the movie and most righteous. Later she comes to Pinocchio's aid after he is captured by Stromboli and though she does get upset when he didn't go to school and tries to lie his way out of his situation she does become very forgiving and frees him and Jimny from the cage while warning him to do better in the future, she again helps Pinocchio sending a message via a dove of the whereabouts of his missing father Geppetto. After Pinocchio dies while saving his father the Blue Fairy recognizes that he has proven himself to be brave, truthful and selfless and uses her magic to revive him and make him a real boy, though she does ignore the fact that Pinocchio left all the boys to their horrible fate back on Pleasure Island. Never the less she is the most good out of all the characters.

Cleo & Figaro
Next up is Geppetto's pets Cleo the goldfish and Figaro and to be honest there isn't much to say about either as they're both generally good characters though Figaro does get a bit jealous at times but its competley minor meanwhile Cleo tends to act as his councilor.

Gepetto
Pinocchio's father and a kind old woodcarver who literally made him out of wood and wished for him to be brought to life via a wish on a star, like any good father Gepetto loves and cares for his new son and when he fails to return home after school he goes searching for him and ends up trapped inside of Monstro and would later be rescued by Pinocchio. An overall good man with a bit of mischief side as seen early in the movie as he plays around with Pinocchio and kicked Figaro around and later made Pinocchio go to school despite him being unaware of his new surrounding or having any knowledge of where the school even is.

Pinocchio
Next up is the main protagonist of the movie Pinocchio, a complete departure from the original source material in the original stories by Carlo Collodi Pinocchio was portrayed as straight up punk and constantly causes trouble for those around him. In the Disney version Pinocchio is portrayed as more good natured character who wants to do good but do to his naive nature due to him literally being born withing a single night and not knowing of how the world works yet he is easily persuaded by others mainly Honest John and Gideon when they convinced him to take up the life of showbizness only for him to become imprisoned by Stromboli who plans to exploit him then plans to turn him into firewood when his star fades. Though you can cut the kid some slack especially since he didn't know any better but he ends up falling for Honest John's deception a second time when he invites him to Pleasure Island where he and the rest of the boy would be turned into donkey's and sold off to slavery Pinocchio manages to escape along with Jiminy but ends up leaving the rest of the boys to their cruel fate which is why he is ranked a little lower but he does go to rescue his father Geppetto from the clutches of Monstro and even dies n the process which is more then enough for the Blue Fairy to make him a real boy.

Jiminy Cricket
Next up we have Jiminy Cricket who is Pinocchio's appointed conscience who attempts to lead him down the right path, cheerful and good natured but at times can get a bit frustrated especially when Pinocchio is easily tempted by Honest John or Lampwick in the scene on Pleasure Island he scolds Pinocchio for smoking and playing pool which are unbecoming of a real boy as Lampwick begins messing with him as Jiminy begins ready to fight him before Pinocchio stops him telling him Lampwick is his best friend which offends Jiminy which causes him to leave the situation only to come back upon realizing the danger Pinocchio is in which is kind of why he's ranked a little lower but Jiminy does prove to be loyal to Pinocchio and helps him find his father Geppetto which later is rewarded with a solid gold badge that certifies him as an official conscience.

Lampwick
Next up we move on to the more neutral side, Lamowick a trouble maker who along with the other bad boys on Pleasure Island relish in the place with the freedom to anything they want with no consequences or so they think. Lampwick easily convinces Pinocchio to follow his every lead and when Jiminy Cricket scolds Pinocchio he acts very rudley towards him as he shoots several pool balls at him sending him falling into the pool holes all while he laughs at his misery. Though Lampwick acts like a total punk you do feel sorry for him when he like the other boys is transformed into a donkey and eventually sold to slavery.

Monstro
Next we have the monstrous whale Monstro who was difficult to rank seeing as he's a whale, though the movie implies he's a monster in actuality he's just a whale looking for some food and later in the movie he pursues Pinocchio and Gepetto like a runaway train but considering that they lit a fire inside of him to get him to sneeze so they can escape then you really can't blame Monstro for being so aggravated.

Gideon
An now where to the evil side of things staring off with the less evil of the characters Gideon who is basically Honest John's partner in crime, not the brightest and a total mute who just follows Honest John's orders so there's really not much else to add.

Honest John
Next up we have Honest John a shifty and manipulative anthropomorphic fox who will do anything or take advantage of anyone in order to make a quick buck, in the movie upon seeing Pinocchio a wooden puppet without strings he takes advantage of Pinocchio's trusting nature to sell him to Stromboli to be a star and we all see how that went, later in the movie he gloats to the Coachman who we'll get to much later about how he sold Pinocchio to Stromboli who payed plenty for him as the coachman offers him even more money by helping him round up stupid little boys so he can take them to Pleasure Island and even though Honest John may be a total crook even he is horrified when the Coachman brings up Pleasure Island which even he is aware of how dangerous the place is. Depsite this he still goes along with helping the Coachman gather more children even manipulating Pinocchio into going as well by conniving him he's ill and the only cure is to go to Pleasure Island. Unlike other Disney villains Honest John is never punished for his misdeeds and gets away with all the money he gets from the coachman for helping him in his plan.

Stromboli
Next up is the gypsy puppet-maker Stromboli who Honest John sells him Pinocchio. At first he seems like a friendly puppeteer but as soon as the show ends he shows his true colors as a ruthless, greedy and violent person who looks to exploit Pinocchio to make him lots of money for him and him alone, he literally throws Pinocchio in a cage when he tries to leave for home as he tells Pinocchio how things will be as Pinocchio will make him money and when he has out lived his stardom will turn him into fire wood as he demonstrates by throwing an ax at one of his old puppets as Pinocchio cries out to let him out as Stromboli loudly yells at him to shut up causing the entire coach to shake and he threatens him with violence. Luckily Pinocchio with help from the Blue fairy is able to escape in time

Most Evil: The Coachman
An now for the most evil character on this list, no arguments here The Coachman as the most immoral character from the moment he's introduced you can already tell there something nor right about him especially when he delvers that line when he talks about bringing the boys to Pleasure Island "They never come back as, BOYS!!!" and makes that devilish face complete with his hair resembling horns. The coachman brings unsuspecting boys to Pleasure Island which is like a massive theme park where they are free to do anything they want but all that fun comes at a horrible price as the children are turned into donkey's and sold off into slavery and heaven forbid what he does to all the talking ones, the Coachman shows absolute no remorse for any of the them and his only goal is to make money of their suffering and like Honest John and Stromboli he is never punished for his actions and keeps all the money he made from selling them to places like the salt mines and earns him the top spot on the farthest end of the evil list.

An that's the list what did you think which characters were the most good and which was the most evil.

Comments
