Top 10 Fun Facts About Monty Python

The Top Ten
1 In "The Holy Grail", they were actually going to use horses, but didn't have enough money. The troupe decided to use the coconuts instead.

Too bad they don't just claim the coconuts were the original plan, as it worked the Best for the movie. Sometimes genius and brilliant ideas are forced upon people I suppose. Quite fortunately in this case, setting so much of the tone for this great farce. Do Not give producers or artists unlimited funds!

2 Graham Chapman was openly gay. This was during a time where it was claimed wrong to be a homosexual. His partner was named David Sherlock.

Hmm, Sherlock Holmes' child out of wedlock...?

3 John Cleese had food poisoning during the "Shooting the Tiger" sketch during The Meaning of Life and would vomit uncontrollably outside in between takes.

Could they tell it wasn't just improv?

4 Eric Idle wrote the biggest percentage of the troupe's songs throughout their career.

Apparently not as idle as one may have assumed...

5 A Liar's Autobiography was a television special created by all of the Python's except Graham Chapman, whom the film was dedicated to, couldn't work on it since he was deceased. Eric Idle didn't work on it as well, but the reason why he didn't is unknown.

Hmmm, then it must have been an extraordinary accomplishment to have all the Pythons (except for Chapman) create it... Did the Death Wagon from the plague scene carry Eric off prematurely? Did John Cleese dump him on it to get him out of the way? Conspiracy theorists, where are you?!

6 John Cleese hated the sketch "The Ministry of Silly Walks".

It was rather silly...

7 The "Biggus Dickus" sketch from Life of Brian was unknown to the actors playing the guards. Their reactions of trying not to laugh are real because Micael Palin informed them that if they did laugh whatsoever, their paycheck would lower.

More brilliance! This is how to do it right, folks

8 In The Meaning of Life, Graham Chapman talks to Death. Later, Chapman was the first member of the troupe to die in reality.
9 John Cleese despised Michael Palin's decision of working on nature shows after Chapman died.

Cleese seems to have gotten too grand an idea of his self-importance persona on this one. Loses some degree of respect

10 Graham Chapman was an alcoholic. This caused problems, especially during "The Holy Grail". When he walks across the Bride of Death, it was very difficult of him to accomplish the task. He almost fell over.

Walking across the bride of death? She's not that ugly.
