Top Ten Best Games for the Nintendo Switch

Just vote for your favorite game playable on the new console.
The Top Ten
1 The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

Who can question the greatness of Breath of the Wild? I have never poured more hours into a game. The design is perfect down to the tiniest details, and everything about it is just seamlessly flawless. I'd pay 100 dollars for this game.

This isn't even a question at the current time. The only other really viable title is Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, which, while great, is just a special edition re-release and isn't in the same league. Not only is this the best game for the Switch currently, but it's also probably one of the best games of the year and one of the best Zelda titles ever made.

It's quite possible that this game will be topped in the future with releases like Super Mario Odyssey, Metroid Prime 4, Fire Emblem Switch, and possibly a new Donkey Kong Country (seeing as how Retro Studios isn't working on either of the new Metroids). But until then, Breath of the Wild is head and shoulders above anything else that exists.

2 Super Mario Odyssey

This game made me feel every emotion: plenty of joy, lots of rage, a twinge of fear, and even a tearful moment at the end of a long journey. Breath of the Wild had me addicted for hours, but Super Mario Odyssey is fun every time I play it. Whether speed running, popping balloons, racing Koopas, punching bosses, finding every moon, or even just enjoying these amazingly designed kingdoms, Super Mario Odyssey is pure fun the whole way through. 10/10.

This game was everything I hoped it would be and then some. It reminded me of Super Mario Galaxy, Super Mario Galaxy 2, and Super Mario 64 while still being original in every way. It is the pinnacle of Mario games, and I believe it to be the pinnacle of all Switch games.

3 Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

With the game now out, my vote feels justified. The Smash Bros. series has always had a magical feeling to it, and this game pushes everything forward. When you have a game like Smash, you reach a point where you are unsure of what the series could possibly do next, but returning to every past game was the best choice. We get a fun Classic mode from 64, fast gameplay from Melee, a good single-player mode from Brawl, and a huge cast of varying characters from Wii U.

This game is so beloved by fans because it is FOR the fans. Those fan mods feel like a reality. We have every past character and some new, highly sought-after ones, tons of great returning stages, and addicting gameplay to bring it all home. Or anywhere else. The Switch's being a mashup of Nintendo consoles leaves Ultimate feeling like a perfect fit. I'll be interested to see how Sakurai tops this one.

4 Splatoon 2

Splatoon 2 is an amazing sequel to Splatoon. I also heard Splatoon 3 is coming out soon. Anyway, this game is fun and has so many different modes. It has Salmon Run, Hero (solo) mode, Splat Zones, Turf War, Rainmaker, Tower Control... so many! And the main objective is never killing your enemies. You can 'splat' them to help you out, but it's never your focus. I definitely recommend this game to anyone who likes variety and colorful games!

A very good sequel to Nintendo's widely popular third-person shooter. Nice new features and additions make this title a "must-have" on the Switch.

5 Mario Kart 8

The drifting and feel of this game are nearly perfect, with the graphics being the best yet in the Mario Kart series! Mastering 200cc takes a bit at first, but once you've got it, it is so fun to play competitively online and in time trials! This game just provides so well when it comes to online play. Even the offline Grand Prix and VS Races are really good!

This makes me want to strive for a world record in Time Trials. In my opinion, it is the best online game on the Switch!

I cannot wait to play this game when I own a Switch this year. It has got the coolest additional features, such as several new characters (Inklings because I love Splatoon) and features more options for Battle Mode.

6 Arms

If you want to ever complete your Switch collection this year, buy the following games: This one, Breath of the Wild, 1-2 Switch, Super Mario Odyssey, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, and Splatoon 2.

This game is one of the most unique fighting games I have ever seen.

Did you watch the ARMS direct? There are some nice surprises.

7 The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom

Tears of the Kingdom just takes Breath of the Wild and does everything better. From the story to the dungeons (especially the dungeons), to the gameplay, to the abilities, to the side quests, and even the world itself, TOTK may just be the best open-world game of all time.

This should be the best game. It's fun and challenging.

8 Super Mario Maker 2

You can make Mario levels to fit your style, then play them! Or you can challenge your friends, play other people's levels... The possibilities for your levels are endless!

Absolutely my favorite Switch game. I've put 150 hours into it, and I'm still not bored. Plus, future updates will add even more. The amount of content is just incredible.

Super Mario Maker 2 is an awesome game to play where you can make and play Mario levels. However, the Versus Online mode is just bad, but everything else is awesome.

9 Sonic Mania

Sonic Mania looks fantastic in all aspects. I loved that SEGA let fan game creators make a Sonic game. After this, I feel like they need to make more games with these people in the developer's seat.

When the fans make better games than modern SEGA. Great soundtrack, of course, good extras, and good levels overall.

Definitely deserves higher than the number 12 spot. Can we get this to the top ten? PLEASE?

10 Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle

Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle is a surprisingly fun game that shows you that you really can't judge a book by its cover, and I think everyone should give it a try.

Kind of weird but oddly addictive and enjoyable.

Decent. I know I use this word a bit too much.

The Newcomers

? Cupid Parasite: Sweet and Spicy Darling
? Construction Simulator 4
The Contenders
11 The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

It's the same game we all know and love, but now we can take it anywhere! Well, there goes my social life again!

Definitely not the best version of this undisputed masterpiece, but Skyrim is still Skyrim.

The graphics are a bit downgraded (a bit), but it is the same legendary RPG known as Skyrim.

12 Sonic Forces

This game is going to bring Sonic back to good. Along with Sonic Mania.

13 Kirby: Star Allies

It's flipping Kirby. Of course, it's in the top ten.

Colorful, cute, and solid gameplay. 10/10!

14 Snipperclips: Cut It Out, Together!

I like how you have to cooperate with people. It encourages you to have friends.

Snipperclips is the best game of all time on the Nintendo Switch.

15 Xenoblade Chronicles 2

This game is so epic. I've never been a JRPG fan, but this game has completely changed my opinion. I love Rex and Pyra, really strong leads with some outstanding and funny support from Nia, Tora, Poppi, and my favorite Zeke. The story is full of twists, deaths, betrayal, joy, and sadness, one of my favorites ever.

The world of Titans is full of creatures, towns, secrets, and some of the best music I've heard in years. A true masterpiece. If you think you don't like JRPG games, you might surprise yourself with this one. Fantastic game.

16 Animal Crossing: New Horizons

The game was rough in its early months, and the villager dialogue is rather banal, but this game continues to get better with every update and addition. It has the same formula as always, except your tools can break now.

This game came out at the perfect time. It helped me through the pandemic. I struggled (and I'm still struggling) with depression during the pandemic. Animal Crossing made me feel so relaxed. I was happy. A year and a half later, and I still love ACNH so much. It should be in the top 10, no doubt.

17 Hollow Knight

This is easily one of the best games I've ever played. I'm literally crying while hearing the music because it's so good. It looks incredible, controls incredibly, and has a ridiculous amount of amazing content for a game made by just a small handful of people. It's naturally lower because it's indie, but this one should truly be in the top 3. And the lore is also incredible.

Creepy and fantastic. Centering mostly around insects, Hollow Knight is a platformer that has a beautiful art style and contains classic elements inspired by past games. Really gives me flashbacks to both Cuphead and Metroid.

18 Celeste

Celeste is just an amazing game for the Switch, and it will cause you to rage quit, but the game is so much fun.

Bumping this up. Put this in the Top 15 maybe?

19 Super Bomberman R
20 Super Mario Bros. Wonder
21 Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze

I love Donkey Kong Country. Donkey Kong Country Returns was the first video game I ever bought. And DKC Tropical Freeze was the first Switch game I bought. It's so fun. I prefer the Donkey Kong Country platformers to the new Super Mario ones.

My first Switch game. I love it so much! Fun, Tropical Freeze is so great! I love Donkey Kong Country!

This soundtrack absolutely frickin' slaps. Oh yeah, it's also a really good platformer, but it doesn't really differ from previous installments. Maybe that's a good thing.

22 New Super Mario Bros U Deluxe

If you play as Toadette, you can make the game walkthrough easily.

23 Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury

Just a really fun 3-D platformer. Bowser's Fury offers a really cool new take on Mario games, and I think it's actually freaking awesome and even better than 3D World itself.

My hours into this game skyrocketed. Love it.

24 Fire Emblem: Three Houses

I'm sorry, but why is it this low on the list?

One of the best games I have ever played.

One of the best Switch games ever.
