Garou began playing guitar at the age of 3. His voice is very distinctive - low, raspy, emotional and sexy.

Garou gained international popularity in the late 90s for his work in the musical Notre-Dame de Paris where he played Quasimodo in both the original French and English casts. The original debuted in 1998 in Paris.
