Top Ten Most Generic Sad Songs

These are songs that you listen to when your heart is broken etc. everyone knows them and they are played as sad. When someone recommends one of these songs even I ask for a sad song I usually say "ohhh I've never heard of that one" in my head because they are some of the most popular. I'm not hating on these songs in fact I happen to like a lot of them, but I'm just saying they have gotten to the point where they're almost cliche.
The Top Ten
1 How to Save a Life - The Fray

I remember this playing on the radio every day when I was little and I'm actually quite fond of it as it holds a lot of memories, but it's probably the most known"sad"song to play.

2 Hey There Delilah - Plain White T's

It was so hard for me to choose if this or how to save a life would be number one, but I flipped a coin. Don't get me wrong I love this song I actually still listen to it often, but this is always the go to heart break song even when I was six I remember it being that go to song.

One of very few popular songs I actually love, but I agree, it's generic.

3 Hurt - Johnny Cash

Now I'll probably get hate for putting this as generic, but again I'm not saying it's a bad song it's just a song that you don't even really have to recommend for people because they're bound to know it for it's sad origins.

The genre as a whole is generic.

4 Someone Like You - Adele

Oooh I almost forgot this one. This is actually my favorite song, but it's probably the definition of this list.

I really like this song and the best from Adele for me.

5 The Freshman - The Verve Pipe

Almost forgot this too! But yeah this has to be here.

6 Fix You - Coldplay

I couldn't decide if this or the scientist should go higher.

7 The Scientist - Coldplay
8 The A Team - Ed Sheeran

Not the most known here, but

9 Maps - Yeah Yeah Yeahs
10 A Thousand Years - Christina Perri

One of the more recent and more generic of them.

The Contenders
11 Say Something - Cheyenne Jackson and Jackie Evancho
12 One Call Away - Charlie Puth

Not a sad song. It doesn't make you cry, but it more rather makes you want to sleep.

13 Head Above Water - Avril Lavigne

I've people say this is her best song. But honestly, it just sounds like a generic pop ballad song and she has made way better.

14 Yesterday - The Beatles
15 Sleep Alone - Moby
16 Fallen - Electus
17 See You Again - Carrie Underwood

This song, reminds me, and many other people about one specific thing. Like, when a person dear to you passes away.

18 Heartbeats - José González
