Top 10 Genres That Can Be Associated With Pink Floyd

The Top Ten
1 Progressive Rock Progressive rock is a broad genre of rock music that developed in the United Kingdom and United States throughout the mid to late 1960s.

If you say Pink Floyd was prog rock, you have obviously not listened to very much prog. Pink Floyd is prog for people too turned away by prog - people only refer to them as prog because that's how they advertised themselves. The musicians were of average skill, and in the words of Bill Bruford, they "never played anything faster than a slow jazz ballad". If you like the psychedelic feel, but want something actually progressive, maybe try Soft Machine (I'd recommend their album "Third" as a starting point).

The Pink Floyd are always Psychedelic Rock, but in the 70's with Dark Side Of The Moon, Atom Hearth Mother, Animals and many others, you could just say, holy! this sound so cool and progressive! In the case of Dark Side Of The Moon you could just say:"This is prog, and much more with Alan Parson! "

So, Good Listening boys!

2 Psychedelic Rock Psychedelic Rock is a style of rock music in the late 1960s where it is incorporated, influenced or inspired by psychedelic culture which revolves around the perception of hallucinogenic drugs. It is incorporated with improvisation, electronic sound effects and extended solos.
3 Experimental Rock
4 Space Rock
5 Avant-Garde
6 Art Rock
7 Acid Rock
8 Symphonic Rock
9 Blues Rock Blues rock is a fusion genre combining elements of blues and rock. It is mostly an electric ensemble-style music with instrumentation similar to electric blues and rock: electric guitar, electric bass, and drums, often with Hammond organ.
10 Ambient
The Contenders
11 Punk Rock Punk rock is a subgenre of rock music. It usually has rebellious lyrics and down stroked power chords played on guitars. Bad Religion, Sex Pistols, and Green Day (actually pop-punk, which is still punk in a way) are a few punk rock bands. The subgenre influenced thrash metal because of it's down stroked guitar playing and other factors.

Not a Punk Band at all but some of their songs especially on Animals and The Wall have some Punk elements. Funny especially when Punk and Prog are sworn enemies.

12 Jazz Rock

I'm putting this because people often overlook the jazz part in their songs especially on songs like Shine on You crazy diamond (Part 8), Echoes, Us and Them, Atom Heart Mother etc...
