Top 10 Good but Overrated Cartoons

These are cartoons that are good but they received a bit too much credit.
The Top Ten
1 My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic is an animated children's television series based on the fourth incarnation of Hasbro's My Little Pony franchise. The show follows a studious unicorn (later an alicorn) pony named Twilight Sparkle (Tara Strong) and her friends Applejack (Ashleigh Ball), Rarity (Tabitha... read more

I find this show to be quiet decent but judging by A LOT of it's fans, I've say that this is not just a fandom but a subculture. Why? Many brony websites were created for sharing things related to this show and I will remember March 2016 as one of the most revolutionizing days in my life.

Yep. It's a good show but some hyped-up fans would annoyingly ask you to like it, and that's when the hate rage starts. I didn't end up like that, I just watched a video on YouTube and I got hooked.

Seasons 1 and 2 were really good (characters, episodes, songs, etc.). When Twilight became an alicorn, the show started going downhill. Seasons 4 and 5 weren't all that bad. The first few episodes of Season 6 were okay, but then it just got bad.

2 Steven Universe Steven Universe is an American animated television series created by Rebecca Sugar for Cartoon Network. The show's based around a young boy by the name of Steven Universe, who is a hybrid of a gem and a human. He lives with his gem friends, Garnet, Amethyst and Pearl.

I've tried to watch this show multiple times, but I've never been able to get into it. I think it's a little too weird and preachy for me. The insane fan base isn't helping that much either. However, I'm not just a biased hater. I acknowledge that this show has a lot of fans, and if you like it, then good for you. This show just isn't for me. I do feel really good for Rebecca Sugar, though. She was once a writer on my favorite show of all time (Adventure Time) until she decided to create Steven Universe. She was the first woman to create a cartoon for Cartoon Network and I'm happy that's she's experiencing as much success as she is.

3 SpongeBob SquarePants SpongeBob SquarePants is an American animated television series created by marine biologist and animator the late Stephen Hillenburg for Nickelodeon. SpongeBob is currently the most popular show on Nickelodeon, as well as the longest running show, running for 23 years, and is beginning its 13th season... read more

SpongeBob was a fantastic show up to when they released the first movie. After this, the show started to noticeably decline in quality. Animation got cheaper looking, the jokes were getting worse and worse, and the once funny and likable cast of characters soon became annoying one-trait shells.

Since the second movie, the quality HAS gotten better, but the show should really just be given a proper ending. No show can remain good forever.

It had it's run. It's ending soon. But a word from me is that while Spongebob was indeed a good show, It went to a deep dive around 2005 but still I remember when I used to watch this a lot! It had great support from it's fans and they will always remember how good Spongebob was.

4 Teen Titans Teen Titans is an American animated television series created by Glen Murakami, based on the DC Comics characters of the same name.

I know this may sound bad but while I used to enjoy the show, It ended very soon so I just moved on. Still many of it's fan continued watching the old episodes and why did the creators even planned on making a stupid reboot of it?

It's a terrible adaptation of the comics and the characters are not that good, in fact they're not good at all, merely spoofs of their original selves.

These kids are not the Teen Titans. And what is Cyborg doing there?

5 The Simpsons The Simpsons is an American animated sitcom created by Matt Groening that originally started on April 19, 1987 as shorts on The Tracey Ullman Show. It got its own series on December 17, 1989 and is still running as of 2023, making it the longest running animated sitcom. It is about a man named Homer... read more

Same as Family Guy except that since my parents prohibited me to watch this show while I was young, this was a good show and was still running as of now. Classic and a lot of rates on it's meter.

More like "overlong", though any episodes from after season seven are indeed overrated.

They've been stretching for ideas for almost two decades

6 Invader Zim Invader Zim is an American animated television series created by Jhonen Vasquez for Nickelodeon. The series centers on an extraterrestrial named Zim from the planet Irk, and his mission to conquer Earth and enslave the human race along with his malfunctioning robot servant GIR.

If anything, GIR is a lot more overrated than the show itself.

7 Pokemon Pokémon, abbreviated from the Japanese title of Pocket Monsters and currently advertised in English as Pokémon: The Series, is a Japanese anime television series, which has been adapted for the international television markets. It was first broadcast in Japan on April 1, 1997, in the United States... read more

One of the few shows I still watch as I've gotten more into internet life but it's fanbase is both good and annoying at the same time (not to mention Genwunners, Original Series fans, and Serena fangirls). Yes! Pokemon is a great show for me and many others.

I wish is that I get to watch good fan-made shorts such as Fennekin playing with Charmander or Charmeleon trying to get an apple from a tree but all of these ideas just came from my head.

I used to watch but it run too long I got tired if it

8 Gravity Falls Gravity Falls is an American animated television series produced by Disney Television Animation that first aired on Disney Channel, and then on Disney XD from June 15, 2012 to February 15, 2016. The series follows the adventures of Dipper Pines and his twin sister Mabel in the fictional town of Gravity... read more

Don't be mad at me, I don't hate Gravity Falls but I'm simply just not a fan of it BUT why would the fanbase obsess over the show too much that they've made a law where people who hate Gravity Falls are stupid and insane? It's bad, they won't accept even a single criticism of their favorite show.

It ended in 2016 but the fanbase just whined about it's ending BUT I'm very sorry if that happened but they have to move on. I'm guessing Cartoon Network is the last hotspot left on cartoon television.

I know that I will get a lot of hate on this comment but

I don't get why everyone loves this show and the only reason why is because of the hidden messages and that's all.
Also the fandom is so disgusting and worst then the loud house fandom so that is why I dislike this show

9 Regular Show Regular Show is an American animated television series created by J. G. Quintel for Cartoon Network that premiered on September 6, 2010. The series revolves around the lives of two friends, a blue jay named Mordecai and a raccoon named Rigby—both employed as groundskeepers at a local park.

No, it's not bad. The show had a really good conclusion. I cried at Pop's death. I watched most of the first few seasons. They had cute couples. But the stuff in this show is SO BAD FOR KIDS TO BE WATCHING. Heck, I've seen parents complain about the apps for it, but the show itself has some stuff I would not show younger viewers. If this show was on Adult Swim, I think it would have been on for longer.

Not a single good joke. One thing is taking a random concept and making something out of it. If you're just going to be random and stupid but have no class, then you're no better than Cow & Chicken.

10 Adventure Time Adventure Time is an American animated television series created by Pendleton Ward for Cartoon Network. The series follows the adventures of a boy named Finn (voiced by Jeremy Shada) and his best friend and adoptive brother Jake (voiced by John DiMaggio)—a dog with the magical power to change shape... read more

Adventure Time is a fine cartoon, but the fandom is too damn annoying!

Why are Caillou and Family Guy above this?

The Newcomers

? Bluey
The Contenders
11 South Park South Park is an American adult animated sitcom created by Trey Parker and Matt Stone for the Comedy Central television network. The show is about four boys, who are Stan Marsh, Kyle Broflovski, Eric Cartman, and Kenny McCormick, and their adventures in South Park, Colorado.

It would be a lot better if it wasn't so political. When it does political episodes, it misses far more often than it hits, which makes Trey Parker and Matt Stone come off as ignorant. Good examples are comparing transgender people to Kyle's dad who wanted to turn into a dolphin and comparing atheism to religion.

I think South Park deserves its praise personally. Very smart, satirical show that still manages to stay fresh even 20 seasons in. Most other T.V. shows become really stale by around season 8-10.

12 Dragon Ball Z Dragon Ball Z is a Japanese anime television series produced by Toei Animation. Dragon Ball Z follows the adventures of Goku who, along with the Z Warriors, defends the Earth against evil. The action adventures are entertaining and reinforce the concept of good versus evil. Dragon Ball Z teaches valuable... read more

A lot of annoying hardcore fans but of course Dragon Ball Z is awesome. The bad thing is that it's just not my type, I find Pokemon to be the only likable anime in my opinion.

Amazing should be number 2 after regular show n before teen titans

13 The Powerpuff Girls The Powerpuff Girls is an American animated television series created by animator Craig McCracken for Cartoon Network. The main characters of this show are Blossom, Bubbles, and Buttercup. The show is about the Professor Utonium creating three little superhero girls that save the day from villains... read more

I watched the show once as well as the movie. Yes, I liked it when I was a kid though as I grow up and then became a brony, I've heard many fans of the show getting upset at My Little Pony suprassing it as one of the most popular girl shows recently. I may wanna talk about that show but still anyways the show will still make a major remark from my early days.

14 Amazing World of Gumball

I hate both the fanbase AND the hatebase! The show is amazing though, and whoever said that Gumball is a rip-off of Katy Kat REALLY needs to go back to preschool! Sure they look similar, but they have very different personalities!

15 Naruto Naruto is an anime and manga franchise Naruto, created by Masashi Kishimoto. The manga was later adapted into a television anime, which was produced by Studio Pierrot and Aniplex. It premiered across Japan on the terrestrial TV Tokyo and other TX Network stations on October 3, 2002. The first series... read more
16 Scooby-Doo! Where Are You?

Scooby doo is so unfunny. Never laughed. Not even interesting because every episode is just a guy in a suit at the end. One of the most overrated cartoons of all time. People just like it because it’s a little nostalgic. But it’s forggetable. I watched it when I was young and I only remember one character. It’s flat out white noise. I consider it the #2 most overrated cartoon of all time.

17 Ed, Edd n Eddy Ed, Edd n Eddy is a Canadian-American animated comedy television series created by Danny Antonucci for Cartoon Network, and the sixth of the network's Cartoon Cartoons. The series revolves around three preteen boys: Ed, Edd "Double D," and Eddy—collectively known as "the Eds"—who live in a suburban... read more

Funny as a kid, but crap when you grow up. The animation is actually freaky. (e.g. when they have the jawbreakers in their mouths, that kid with something around his face, Edd smile and his eyes on the picture on here) oh and the fact they have the same name but spelt differently.

Ed Edd n Eddy and Other Cartoons is Not My Favorite nor Not a Fan of Every Cartoon in General

Calling this show overrated is a massive understatement!

18 Courage the Cowardly Dog Courage the Cowardly Dog is an American animated horror comedy television series created by John R. Dilworth for Cartoon Network as part of the network's Cartoon Cartoons block.

Overrated mostly in terms of its scare factor

19 Rocko's Modern Life Rocko's Modern Life is an American animated television series created by Joe Murray for Nickelodeon. The series centers on the surreal life of an anthropomorphic Australian-immigrant wallaby named Rocko as well as his friends: the gluttonous steer Heffer, the neurotic turtle Filburt, and Rocko's faithful... read more

Formerly underrated, now overrated.

Have you, by any chance, read my Dr. Paula Hutchison-Shellbach brain-fetish fanfiction for it yet? Or my Virginia Wolfe brain-fetish fanfiction for it?

20 Family Guy Family Guy is an American adult animated sitcom created by Seth MacFarlane for the Fox Broadcasting Company. The series centers on the Griffins, a family consisting of parents Peter (Fat, Idiotic Dad) and Lois (Nagging Bitchy Wife), their children Meg (Socially Awkward Daughter) Chris (Fat, Idiotic... read more

Haven't watched this show but I do know Family Guy was good THOUGH it went downhill based on people's views on it from 2008 and beyond. It was a good show at once though it can be cheaply overrated sometimes.

As a long time I agree it's not what it used to be and it had decline but in my opinion it still manages to pull decent episodes from time to time.

21 Rick and Morty Rick and Morty is an American adult animated science fiction sitcom created by Justin Roiland and Dan Harmon for Adult Swim.

Seeing this show on this list was predictable. don't get me wrong, I love Rick and Morty, Its well animated, funny, gives good messages etc etc, I have even Rick on my Facebook profile, the problem with the people who also love this show are killing Rick and Morty, just to think that if they see this show, they became intelligent while actually, they are just jerks trying to be Albert Einstein, besides whats up with the Szechuan Sauce riot on McDonalds? I know that they never managed to get that back in 1998 but come on, all of they are just making the South Park fandom look awful.

22 Danny Phantom

Everybody loves this cartoon way too much

23 Garfield and Friends Garfield and Friends is an American animated television series based on the comic strip Garfield by Jim Davis.
24 Boku No Pico Boku no Pico is an anime series of three OVA episodes created by Katsuhiko Takayama. It was released to DVD on September 17, 2006.
25 Star vs. the Forces of Evil "Star vs. the Forces of Evil" is an American animated television comedy produced by Disney Television Animation for Disney XD. It was created by Daron Nefcy and developed by Jordana Arkin and Dave Wasson. The series follows teenage magical princess from the dimension of Mewni Star Butterfly and her... read more
