The Contenders: Page 4

61 UB40

Although relatively plastic as a band, the music has lived on well beyond any other bands of this nature. Top 100 of the era for sure

Still listen to their music now they are brilliant.

62 Eurythmics Eurythmics Eurythmics were a British music duo consisting of members Annie Lennox and David A. Stewart. Stewart and Lennox were both previously in the band The Tourists, who split up in 1980; Eurythmics were formed that year in London.

Loved annie's powerful voice along with dave's musical rhythm. I love sweet dreams (are made of this).

I love this band! My parents played it when I was a kid and I loved it ever since. My favorite song that the produced is Sweet Dreams.

There videos were real art. Annie lennox always looked stupendously good

Great rock band for 50yrs!

64 Pixies Pixies The Pixies are an American alternative rock band formed in 1986 in Boston, Massachusetts. The group disbanded in 1993 in acrimonious circumstances, but reunited in 2004. The group currently consists of founders Black Francis, Joey Santiago, and David Lovering.

What can you say about his band that isn't being said currently. in the 80s, no one knew of them until Doolittle, but they'd already scored a following in the UK. these days, they're looked upon as legends...

The current music scene wouldn't be the same without this quartet; unequivocally the best band of the 80s

Pixies should be number one and after that should be sonic youth, I don't know why they are so low

Where would the 90s be without the pixies, by far one of the most influential bands of the 80s

65 Alphaville Alphaville Alphaville is a German synthpop/new wave band which gained popularity in the 1980s. The founding members were lead singer Marian Gold, Bernhard Lloyd, and Frank Mertens.

Amazing melodies, deep meaningful lyrics, breathtaking vocals of Marian Gold... This band is just awesome. Unfortunately, most people only know about "Forever Young", but trust me, it's only the tip of the iceberg.

Love it! Awesome band. Full of great classics. Great memories!

Should be higher. Most of these bands belong in either the 90s or 70s

66 Blondie Blondie Blondie is an American rock band founded by singer Debbie Harry and guitarist Chris Stein. The band was a pioneer in the early American new wave and punk scenes of the mid-late 1970s.

Debbie harry was talented and beautiful

Because they were more of a 70s band than an 80s band?

68 Cinderella Cinderella Cinderella is an American glam metal and hard rock band from the suburbs of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The band emerged in the mid-1980s with a series of multi-platinum albums and hit singles whose music videos received heavy MTV rotation.

Had Two Killer Albums in the 80's...Their Debut "Night Songs" and Follow up "Long Cold Winter" with Both Albums Cracking the Top 10 in the Billboard 200..and combining to produce 3 Top 20 Singles...

Killer songs like nobody's fool, Somebody save me, Gypsy road, and lots more. They should be in at least the top 15. I am a huge fan of old school rock and roll and I am only 13 years old and this is my second favorite band.

Tom Keifer is one of the most talented musicians ever! Look at all the different instruments he can play! Add in his beautiful voice & absolutely gorgeous face. This band is in my top ten of all time!

How in the world are they in 57th place? This is the best 80s band in the world. Tom keifer is the best vocalist I've ever heard.

The best glam metal band platinum and gold albums and just plain rock/metal awesomeness

Different - Rock/Metal and Christian

You guy saved my life

In God We Trust was pretty much the final chord in 80s music.
Sadly, I didn't hear much of them until later.

70 Men at Work Men at Work Men at Work are an Australian rock/pop band formed in Sydney. The group is most famous for their hit, "Land Down Under"

I was born in 82' so I obviously wasn't into the music scene enough to know if they ever received enough credit, but "Maria" is without a doubt one of my favorite songs. I have their greatest hits, I know snobs hate me all you want, but it's all amazing (like almost Paul Simon's Graceland good). I can't say that for all of my greatest hits compilations.

So much better than what is viewed I don't know what is up with this list. "Who can it be- now" has an amazing tenor sax and it is just a good band over all they should at least be in top 15 in my opinion.

Great Australian band and definitely should be given some more credit for their work!

Love them

71 Twisted Sister Twisted Sister Twisted Sister is an American heavy metal band originally from Ho-Ho-Kus, New Jersey, and later based in Long Island, New York.

Amazing band, many great songs. They are a great inspiration to other heavy metal bands. They truly should be one of the top 10 because of the quality and effort that you can easily tell they put into their songs. You can tell that they really believe in what they sing, and what their lead singer Dee Snider writes.

One of best rock bands ever!

They Are Sing About The Truth Too And They Keep It Raw

73 Cheap Trick Cheap Trick Cheap Trick is an American rock band from Rockford, Illinois, formed in 1973. As of 2010, the band currently consists of Robin Zander, Rick Nielsen, Tom Petersson and Daxx Nielsen.

Cheap Trick, to me, was the most underrated rock bands of the 80's

No doubt they were and are still underrated!

I'm 63 and still like to crank it up in my car with these guys. Their music sounds just as good as it did 30 years ago.

Greatest band of all time!

74 Def Leppard Def Leppard Def Leppard are an English rock band formed in 1977 in Sheffield as part of the new wave of British heavy metal movement.

Def Leppard is the greatest band ever, releasing so many songs that
A-ha just looks stupid. Only stupid losers would try to disagree.

Definitely Leppard is simply the best! What other band could stay together for thirty five years, through drummer Rick Allen loosing his arm, and playing with the band to this day with a custom designed electronic drum kit? Or the death of guitarist Steve Clark? (RIP Steve) definitely Leppard has a sound all to their own, a mix of a whole bunch of genres creating a unique style? They have some of the best guitar riffs out there, and their lyrics are full of so much meaning. I don't get how definitely Leppard isn't higher, because this band is simply the best.

Definitely Leppard should easily make the top 10. With Pyromania in 1983 they created something different that others tried to imitate throughout the 80s. Leppard's album Hysteria was second only to Michael Jackson's Thriller in 1987 and it had 7 hit singles. They started before the 80s, became incredibly successful in the 80s, and are still writing music and touring today! And they made it through all of that despite the drummer losing his arm and a lead guitarist passing away. Long live definitely Lepaprd!

#41? NO WAY! Def Leppard belongs wayyy up this list! Top 10 easy!

Are we not men? Why on earth is this band not at the top of the list? Nothing says the 80's like the spuds!

Best concert I've ever been to.

It's a wonderful world for you

First concert I visited at age 18. Strange, special, unforgotten.

76 Deep Purple Deep Purple Deep Purple are an English rock band formed in Hertford in 1968. They are considered to be among the pioneers of heavy metal and modern hard rock, although their musical approach changed over the years. Originally formed as a progressive rock band, the band shifted to a heavier sound in 1970. Deep Purple, more.

Pioneers of rocks of all decades. Nothing beats Perfect Stranger album...

How did they get here? David's in whitesnake

77 Dio Dio Dio was an American heavy metal band formed in 1982 and led by vocalist Ronnie James Dio, after he left Black Sabbath with intentions to form a new band with fellow former Black Sabbath member, drummer Vinny Appice.

219 is a travesty. Ronnie James Dio the man that brought you horns up. One of the greatest bands in heavy metal.

Nothing to say as class can not be beaten

80 Adam and the Ants

Adam was my first love. What an amazing and truly original sound the Ants had, those drums were just astonishing. I learned so much from the songs about art, sex, tribes, pirates and the list goes on. Adam was all about style and somehow fused punk and the new romantics effortlessly. A true one off.
