The Contenders: Page 5

81 Ten Years After

Alvin lee and ten years after great band, Alvin lee a PREMIERE JAZZ MAN PUT JAZZ & ROCK TOGETHER AND CAME AWAY WITH A PHENOMENAL SOUND. Listen to a song entitle STANDING AT THE STATION GREAT GUITAR RIFT... Should I say more

82 The Guess Who The Guess Who The Guess Who was a Canadian rock band formed in 1962. The band was formed in Winnipeg, Manitoba and is mostly known for their hit "American Woman".

A great band. They sold more records in 1970 than any other band. To put them at #94 is completely bonkers. The were easily in the top 20 bands of the era.

Great band to grow up listening to--rock at its finest.

Wow should be much higher then 90. - MusicalPony

Under-rated because north of the U.S. border. Mega hits.

83 Sparks Sparks

Wow, this is a surprise... I love Sparks! They are clearly the best on the list so far. - asdfalexia

84 Jo Jo Gunne

I'm surprised to see them this high on the list... They're one of the best lesser known bands

85 Raspberries

Always underrated. Great rock.

86 The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band

Solid country rock -- associated with Linda Ronstadt, Eagles, Pure Prairie League, Poco.

Should be ranked much, much higher. Probably not because of some country, or too much.

87 Three Dog Night

Many hits. Their voices also were the sound of the 70s, at least in NYC.

88 The Good Rats

Great Party band. Knew them.

89 Parliament

Should be in the top 10 range. 1 of the best lead guitar players of all time, eddie hazel

90 Captain Beyond
91 Fanny
92 Allman Brothers

Awesome band. Went to see them at Summerfest in milwaukee, Wi (worlds largest music fest- 10 days of every kind of music), rained out. Went to bar nearby. Who walks in, right, Allman Bros. Small stage with instruments. THEY WENT UP & PLAYED!

Listen to blue sky, ramblin man and Whipping Post. Great songs - randomstofil

93 The J. Geils Band The J. Geils Band The J. Geils Band was an American rock band formed in 1968, in Worcester, Massachusetts, under the leadership of guitarist John "J." Geils.

These guys should be way higher. They have so many amazing hits and they're an outstanding band. I love the J. Geils Band. They need so much more credit and recognition.

Top 5 live band of all time... Limited catalogue yes... But enough for 2.5 to 3 hours of the most high energy- well played soulful R&B with outstanding lead showman...

94 Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young Crosby, Stills & Nash were an American-British-Canadian folk rock supergroup made up of David Crosby, Stephen Stills, and Graham Nash. They were known as Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young when joined by occasional fourth member Neil Young.

102? 102?!?!?! "Helplessly Hoping," "Judy Blue Eyes," "Our House," "Teach Your Children," "Find the Cost of Freedom"...classics, I say! And I was born in 1996!

95 Smokie

Great songs - great band

96 Big Star

Best band of the 1970's. End of Discussion. Alternative Rock 10-20 years ahead of its time. An impossibility realized by everyone.

97 Captain Beefheart and His Magic Band

How come ZAPPA doesn't get a mention?

98 The Little River Band

Without a doubt one of the best - incredible harmonies and a unique guitar sound with a wide range of songs from ballads to rock.

A great Australian Band... I put them in the same category as The Eagles.
