The Beatles

The Beatles were an English rock band formed in Liverpool in 1960. The members consisted of John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr. They were soon known as the foremost and most influential act of rock era. Rooted in skiffle, beat, and 1950s rock and roll, the Beatles later experimented more.

They wrote amazing songs in almost every musical genre (from hard rock to jazz, from classical music to experimental rock, from folk rock to Indian music, from blues to psychedelic, from rock'n'roll to ska...).
Their melodies were simple and catchy, and their lyrics were beautiful (just listen to "Across The Universe" or "Strawberry Fields Forever").
Their covers were better than the originals.
They made extraordinary studio albums (Sgt. Pepper's, Abbey Road, the White Album and Revolver, just to name a few), and they were a great live band.
They started the British Invasion of America.
They released 12 studio albums and 214 songs (and almost 200 of them were original).

And, most of all, they did all this in 7 years ('63-'69).

Even after their split up, the four of Liverpool had gorgeous solo careers and made some of the biggest songs of all time, such as John's "Imagine", George's "My Sweet Lord", Paul's "Maybe I'm Amazed" and Ringo's "It Don't Come ...more

That's rediculous the beetles like invented rock music Metallica and any other rock bands these days wouldn't even be alive if it wasn't for the Beatles

I love The Beatles, seems like I can listen to every song over and over again. Queen is a really good band but no way do they come close to the Beatles. Led Zeppelin is a hard rocking band worthy of the Gods, but had there troubles with stealing music early. I can't believe how low Black Sabbath is, again Heavy Rock band worthy of the Gods. Sabbath over Zeppelin. Beatles over all.

this list is really messed up, even though the beatles arent my favourite band (i still like them tho), The top 5 should be

1. The Beatles.
2. Rolling Stones.
3. Led Zeppelin
4. Pink Floyd
5. The Who - Marcopwnzatdrums

Best, most innovative, tightest, song writing band in rock history bar none. They were the trend setters. They changed the world... No band, no matter how great had the impact the Beatles did. There albums contain more hits per album than any band could even wish for.

The Beatles are the greatest band that the world has ever seen. Every album that they have produced has met the top of the list in both the US and the UK. Even after one of them had already past, they met the top of the list in 1995(Anthology's). So they should be #1 on this list.

The Beatles is amazing. EVERY SINGLE SONG that they wrote is good. There are no bad deep cuts when it comes to The Beatles. They were good from their early days to their last songs. Every single member of this band is a musical genius. And they are WAY better than Queen, no competition.

the beatles are the origin of most of the good music we listen to today, and they have deeply affected every aspect of SO many people's lives. Their music is unparalleled, and rises above any genre of music. They pretty much rule.

People say that The Beatles are overrated. That is not true because they have done so much for music. There wouldn't be Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Queen or anything without Sgt. Peppers. Beatles invented music again. So they are not overrated at all. Zeppelin is easily the most overrated band in history, Pink Floyd, Queen and The Beatles are all 1000 times better and after all zeppelin has only one kickass album.

I am a huge fan of Queen and Led Zeppelin, However I have to even say the Beatles need to be #1. All their albums are practically flawless by most standards of music that exist and have ever existed.

The Beatles are the number 1 of all time! This is obvious... This list has the proper band's but in the WRONG order: 1. The Beatles, 2. The Rolling Stones, 3. Led Zep, 4. The Who, 5. Queen, 6. Pink Floyd, 7. Nirvana, 8. The Doors, 9. The Eagles, 10. The Ramones (Special Mention: Pearl Jam, Sex Pistols, Bruce Springsteen, Heart, Rush, Metallica, Allman Brothers, The Band, Fleetwood Mac, Van Halen) - frank

I am 11 years old the Beatles have changed my life I listen to them every day I own everyone of their songs Led Zeppelin and queen do not compare sure those to had a couple good songs but the Beatles are the best.

Queen?...QUEEN? Sure Bohemian Rhapsody is great but that's pretty much their only bearable song. The Beatles defined everything about music ever. Go put on A Day In The Life and listen. I think I will right now. - backflip

The Beatles must be number one. They changed the course of music for all others to follow. It it weren't for the Beatles, we would still be listening to Elvis Presley music!

I never understood how people rate Queen above The Beatles and Pink Floyd. The Beatles, The Beatles, Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin are a class above all other bands. - KurtCocain

This was the band that invented most of the rock styles that others after them copied. It's the only one that all generations since them know all the hit songs.

If there were no Beatles, there would not be a Rolling Stones, Queen, Pink Floyd, etc.

I think Beatles is still the greatest band ever lived. They really become the greatest symbol for rock music. So I think, they should be on number one spot.

If Beatles is number 3 then I don't know nothing about music. Don't get me wrong, I love queen and Led Zeppelin, but they are no Beatles.

Amazing band, but not classic rock. Bands that came after the Beatles are considered classic rock, since they set the blueprint for the genre.

Come on, people. The Beatles should be #1 on this list. They are what made Classic Rock. Queen and Led Zeppelin are just in the Classic Rock genre, They didn't make It. - Devin112

Every list where the Beatles aren't number 1 should be deleted and the creator as well as the voters should be sent to North Korea.

I wouldn't force anyone to listen to their songs because everyone's taste is different, but it is a fact on why they should be #1

The Beatles easily deserve # 1 compared to led zep who had like 4 good songs. There is no such thing as a bad Beatles song

What's to say? When any other band sells at least half the records the Beatles have then perhaps they could be in the conversation. Just the best!
