Steven Spielberg has brought beautiful cinematic masterpieces to life in ways shaping the hollywood world. He's very influential and clearly is our most cherish and greatest director, with more to come!!!Even his producing credits is legendary that few can match.Nobody and I mean nobody could ever discredit Mr.Spielberg with the magic he has brought to hollywood and the world around it.

I am a Kubrick fan, but I've got to accept that Spielberg is more versatile and unpredictable, amazing you every time you think he is now out of ideas. Spielberg has mastered most of the genres, with a masterpiece in every movie form.
Although I like Kubrick movies more due to the subtleties and his unique way of expression, this man would still be higher than Stanley because of the variation and the nuances, while surprising us every time with his perfection!

Also I am an Indian and I've never heard of Upendra Rao lol.
That is because he makes movies in a different language(Kannada) than the official language(Hindi) and probably people of Southern India admire him a lot.
I watched a few of his movies and he may actually be one of the better Indian directors.
But basically those who voted for him are ignorant and Upendra sure doesn't deserve a place in this list.

How come some unknown director with crap movies (Upendra) be ahead if this genius? This guy has more than 30 theatrical movies under his belt and (with the exclusion of Something Evil) range from good to some of the best pictures of all time. He has done action-adventure, sci fi, historical dramas, war, comedies, romance and horror. Beat that! I think Kubrick is a very close second as they are both awesome.

Not only can the legend can do make priceless blockbuster masterpieces, but he's fantastic at doing intense emotional moments as well. Moments like these occur in Schindler's List, Saving Private Ryan and the very underrated Amistad. Those scenes are very emotional, very tear jerking, thought provoking, powerful, and showcases what makes Spielberg an outstanding director. Too bad I can't say the same about Upendra.

Well god made the earth god is immortal Steven Spielberg is the god of the movies he makes the best movies of all time I don't even know who upendra is Steven Spielberg is the greatest of all time and he is also the greatest influence of all time without him people wouldn't even direct he is the god of movies so please vote for him he is the person who I look up too

Jurassic Park, E.T, Close Encounters, Jaws, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Saving Private Ryan, and Schindler's List all rank in my top 50 movies list. Spielberg is a legend and there's no way that this so called Upendra can take his rightful place. Why is Upendra higher than Kubrick, Scorsese, Fincher and Scott anyway? Even Tarantino & Nolan should be higher than Stupendra. I'm not really a big fan of Tarantino or Nolan, but considering the fact that they have directed some of my favorite films like The Prestige, Reservoir Dogs, Pulp Fiction and Memento, they do have some great filming techniques, a lot of their films have amazing soundtracks, sharp dialogue, stunning visuals, wonderful acting, and intriguing stories, I don't ever here any of Upendra's fans talk about any memorable scenes in his films and Quentin & Chris have plenty of iconic &unforgettable moments in their films, I'll add that they are a million times better than Upetro. Spielberg for me, is king!

No American director has a more impressive or more diverse body of work. Incredibly successful making blockbusters as well as more mature serious works. Demonstrated the power of cinema with Schindler's List in which he transcended the medium to produce a powerful, artistic, humanitarian achievement.

Jaws - pure terror (the score did it) - the ocean has never been viewed the same since - also cast knit together effortlessly. Jurassic Park - literally took us back in time - delivered us the dinosaurs for real. Indiana Jones is a Legend. These alone put him top of the pile. What next - well I'm thinking the guy who gave us Dinosaurs - can give us God or a real real look at the future - where virtually everything and concept is totally alien and not familiar in any way.

Jaws, E.T. The Extra Terrestrial, Schindler's List, Saving Private Ryan, Lincoln, War Horse, Indiana Jones, and Jurassic Park. What else can you ask for? Nothing else. Because all of the movies I mentioned are masterpieces and they were all directed by Steven Spielberg. BEST. DIRECTOR. OF. ALL. TIME. - Headphonex12345

Absolutely he deserves a spot right here especially in that amazing honoring title and it is the best directors so like that's going to be such an amazing thing I would want to have someone think of me like that that even it's so obvious to see Steven Spielberg right here

Who said Kingdom of the Crystal Skulls was in the top 25? That's not true. Even though you acknowledge that Steven Spielberg directed that. Most people say that Steven Spielberg directed all of the other Indiana Jones movies, but that George Lucas directed the last one, because "Steven Spielberg is an angel and he can direct no bad movies" even though he totally can.

Jaws (1975), Close Encounters of the Third Kind (1977), E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial (1982), The Indiana Jones Series (1981-1989), Jurassic Park (1993), Schindler's List (1993), Saving Private Ryan (1998), Catch Me if You Can (2002), Minority Report (2002), The Terminal (2004), The Adventures of Tintin (2011), War Horse (2011), Lincoln (2012)... Just to name a few

How the hell an Indian director No. 1? Not trying to make you offended but Spielberg should be number 1.

Many people voting here confuse a god directing by a good screenplay. Nolan, James Cameron, George Lucas, Ridley Scott and many others just directed movies with good screenplays. I don't blame people for creating such a lists like best directors, movies, musics, writers, books and etc. Of all time need a lot of knowledge to vote on; the best way you can actually vote here is searching every director in this list and see what movies have they made.

This list lacks something and that is some accuracy on voting. The director of the best movie ever made (Citizen Kane),Orson Welles, is not in the top 20 and the one who actually created cinema (Chaplin) is not in top 10...

This how the list should be (not in order):

1-15: Orson Welles, Spielberg, Scorsese, Kubrick, Hithcock, David Fincher, Tim Burton, Coplla, Tarentino, Chaplin, Federico Fellini, Sergio Leone, del toro, Roman Polanski, Joel Conen

Seriously, idiots are deciding this list. Kubrick, Spielberg, Nolan, Gilliam, Coppola, Chaplin all below Upendra. He sucks! I'd rather watch Michael Bay movies at the worst. Anyways, next year (2018-his first was Amblin' in '68) will mark 50 YEARS of directing from Spielberg. Many young and old directors and Steven's friends look upon him. His films are awesome! Fun fact: I heard people say he and Stanley Kubrick have (sadly HAD for Stanley) Aspergers (AKA high functioning autism, like me). You may now have a different view on people with autism. I am not saying this as I'm an aspie. Google it!

Steven is best! Watch Schindler's list & you'll understand. Really? Upendra at 1? You can't be so ignorant

There are movies that are good, and bad. Then you have the ugly and the amazing. Now to have just one movie that wows audiences for years is an achievement, and most of the directors in this list have at least one. However, Speilberg has left his audiences more than just wowed... They've be in awe of his work... Multiple times. To say there's a director better than him for some arbitrary reason such as "He's had flops before" is a... insult to all directors since flops are going to happen. Look at the best and how many times they've made the best, and Speilberg has made THE BEST many many times. So you can say this and that but... The quantity of the amazing quality Steven Speilberg has done... Is simply to much for him NOT to be number one.

Steven Spielberg will always be one of my favorite directors, if not my favorite. I love ET, Jaws, jurassic park, and practically every movie he makes at this point

I has to choose between him and Stanley & I chose Steven. Both are awesome but we could have seen more from Stanley before his time came. Like never heard of Upendra. Isn't he the guy who ripped of "Terminator" with "Robot" or something?

Reach the Hollywood to non reachable places. One of my favorite film maker.

I want to be a director because of him. If he can do big, so can I. Upendra at #1? Who dat? Let's knock him off the #1 position. Anyways, off to see Saving Private Ryan, a god among movies.

What I love about this guy's movies is that he has done so many awesome and nostalgic movies (Upendra movies are so bad). I have high hopes for Ready Player One. Hats off to this genius.

Upendra at 1, nice joke. Saying Upendra is the best, is like saying Foodfight is better than Spirited Away

Jaws, Close Encounters of The 3rd kind, Raiders of The Lost Ark, the rest of Indiana Jones, E. T, Jurassic Park, Schindler's List, Amistad, Saving Private Ryan, A. I, Catch Me If You Can, Minority Report, War of The Worlds, Munich, War Horse, The Adventures Of Tintin and Lincoln. What More do you want? Best director ever!

So excited for Ready Player One and Indiana Jones 5. I heard he is remaking West Side Story. That is risky. But it might ending up like It (2017) and that was mind blowing. Maybe this will be to.
