The Contenders: Page 5
the founder and only lasting member of Nine Inch Nails, and How To Destroy Angels. He deserves a spot on here for his inspiration to other musicians in the dark, industrial, electro, community and bands. - xaxismusic
Probably the most underrated keyboard player anywhere. The reason? He doesn't overplay. Just plays what is needed for the song and nothing more.
Listen to Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers and tell me this guy isn't top 5
I can't believe it... ! There are great piano players in here, it's my opinion Richard Clayderman is at the top of all them, my respect for the classics of course.
Are you kidding me? Laugh out loud
My my.. the most successful pianist on guiness record don't have the justice here
Yeah, I know... Most of you are going "who? " laugh out loud @ some of the people on this list, thanks for the laughs
Without a doubt, he was a major influence to most everyone on this list. In his time, for the style of music he mastered, there is no better piano player.
I would be surprised if anybody else on this list could play as Oscar did. Art Tatum is the only other one I can think in that class.
Putting "Pete" on this list, and then at 75, is an absolute insult. Pure virtuosic genius.V 3 Comments
He is from Bangladesh. Played piano with Air Supply and many other renown bands of the world.
None comes even close when it comes to natural playing...
Magical romel Ali
Jan belongs in the top three, along with Chick and Keith -- what's wrong with you people?!

One of the best Keyboarder I have seen, studied music and plays the most complicated music parts perfectly live, often on 2 keyboards at the same time.
Saga's keyboardist extraordinaire is one of the most talented of all them on this list. He definitely should be in the top 10!
The greatest exponent of the keyboard in musical history.
Why is Gary no 78, he should be in the top 10.
This is insane.. Davies' subtleties set him apart from most, and his hooks are insane.
Listen to "Another Man's Woman" live and you will hear.
What a shame she's below Tori Amos, who probably wouldn't even be on this list I'd not for Kate Bush.
Her beautifully rhythmic playing of keyboards also showed with other instruments as well as her programing prowess. Not to mention a 4 1/2 octive vocal range!V 3 Comments
Listen to anything on the album underworld and you will understand. - deadgrass27V 1 Comment
Bill Paine of Little Feat has to be one of the top five rock piano players of all time. Incredible virtuosity.
Great keyboard player and band leader. If only you can spell his name correctly. Billy Payne
He is just amazing. Created many riffs for Michael Jackson, Eric Clapton, Toto, George Benson, and many others. He has a creativity to develop sounds. His techinique comes from clássica piano. Great feeling, swing time. He is complete!
Page, if anyone doesn't know, plays all the keys for Phish. He can play just about everything and is absolutely amazing. Just listen to any Phish song - Dukebags
Page side.. Rage side.
Billy Ritchie was not only one of the great Keyboard players, he has been well attested by history, he was the first to play a leading role in a Rock band, replacing guitars. When Keith saw 1-2-3 at the Marquee, early in 1967, it pointed the way that The Nice and ELP would follow. There is no such thing as "the best" - all leading players who are good have something of their own to offer, and have deficiencies that others do not have, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. But obviously quality is something tangible, and something that can be applauded. Lists like these tend to be 'fame' lists, not people placed there on merit alone. Many fine keyboard players appear here on this list, but it has to be said that only Billy Ritchie and Keith Emerson held the power of the band alone without guitars, that was at least one of their shared strengths.
Practically none of the keyboard players on this list would be doing what they do but for Billy Ritchie, who was the first to put keyboards at the front of the band.
The best of all - should be number one. Was certainly the first lead Rock keyboard player, copied by Emerson and many others.
From Sky T.V. - "In those days, keyboard players usually sat at the side of the stage, letting lead singers take all the glory. Billy was having none of that". The first player to take a leading role, he changed the dynamic of keyboard playing completely, and set the template for what was to follow.
92? Really? Top 15, maybe 10...
Mixed differend styles in his soul. He influenced a lot of musicians like Joe Cocker (Unchain my heart, let's go get stoned), Beatles an so on...
