287 Terry Fox Terry Fox

He ran the Marathon of Hope across Canada, to raise funds to find a cure for cancer. He had his leg amputated because of the disease, but, that did not prevent him from running. What prevented him from finishing, however, was the return of the cancer, thus forcing him to quit half way across the country (he started out in Newfoundland & got as far as Thunderbay Ontario). He died when he was only 21 years old, & he is considered Canada's greatest hero, right to this very day.

He was a great person.

Honestly he should be number one he's easily the greatest runner because of his great percerverance

Terry Fox was and still is considered by many to be the greatest Canadian to ever live. As a young man he was diagnosed with cancer in his left knee causing that leg to be amputated. He devised a plan to run across the length of Canada on only one leg. He ran to raise money for research to cure cancer. When he was running his Marathon of Hope, his prosthetic leg forced him to take one step forward and half a step back every single step and be in continuous pain while doing so. He ran like this for a total of 5373 kilometers until the cancer had spread to his lungs, causing the end of his Marathon of Hope and his life.
"Somewhere the hurting must stop...and I was determined to take myself to the limit for this cause."
"he refused to take a day off, even on his 22nd birthday."
"His determination united the nation"
"A 1999 national survey named him as Canada's greatest hero"

I have nothing against the lgbtq community. I actually am a bit gay. This monster though is nothing to be admired. The best thing he did was to show the risks of sex reassignment surgery. Should have just been happy with what you are and somebody will love you for it if your a good person. What he did was just stupid. Sorry I will fight to the death for the lgbtq community but will not show admiration for a poor decision. I don't think he is a bad person but not a very smart one.
