As a guitarist for the progressive rock band King Crimson, Fripp has been the only member to have played in all of King Crimson's line-ups from their inception in the late 1960s to the present. No one sounds like Fripp and Fripp sounds like no one.

Unmatched player. Best guitar player of all time. If you look at quotes from fellow guitar players like Clapton, Slash, Santana etc...

Awesome guitarist-a virtuoso. Should be number 1

Without a doubt, simply the most talented and best guitar player of all time!
Ask Clapton, ask Dave Grohl - another major difference...Prince was one of the few guitarist's that can actually read music...a true musician and composer.

48 Matthew Bellamy Matthew Bellamy Matthew James "Matt" Bellamy is an English musician, singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and compose most famous for being the main vocalist in alternative rock band Muse.

Listen to Plug in Baby, Stockholm Syndrome and Reapers. That's enough to show how much of a great technical guitarist he is.

Matt is a superb guitarist, I have no idea why he's so low down on the list?

49 Joe Walsh Joe Walsh Joseph Fidler "Joe" Walsh is an American singer-songwriter, composer, multi-instrumentalist and record producer.

Should be in the top ten at least!

He is definitely in the top 20, as is the lead guitarist of Aerosmith...what the hell are these votes based on? Its not Riff's, its producing a kick ass rock song!

Definitely should be in top 20 at least

Should be in Top 10. Who compiled. This list.

50 Buck Dharma

Seen Blue Oyster Cult many times in concert. Buck Dharma steals the stage by making it look so easy. He can actually be funny at times. My favorite band of all time. If they play near me I still go see them. Bucks boogie is a great instrumental song. If people only knew how many great songs they have besides don't fear the reaper, Godzilla and burning for you they would get hooked also. Keep on rocking BOC. I even had a pair of earrings made with their symbol. Everyone wonders what they mean. I named a dog on his pedigree after Buck. Of course it was a Great Dane because both are great

Saw this guy live and was absolutely astonished by his work. Blue Ouster Cult will always be rock legends, and it's thanks to Buck Dharma and his lightning fast guitar skills.

Buck was my primary guitar influence growing up in the 70's. Very unique style and sound. Very underrated. Glad to see him on this list.

Melodic, precise, accurate, flowing, perfect and one of the best guitar and vocal talents still living from the real R&R era,

This guy is the best guitarist in the world no one will ever come close to his ability not even Hendrix

Best ever! Fastest, the most talented, playing and composing, not only electric but acoustic

Mr. "Neo Classical, Guitarist, Revolutionarist" anyone?! Anyone who doesn't add him on the Top 10 of this list along with Steve Vai simply just can't relate to these masters music. SAD... Bring them up!

He earns higher position!

52 John McLaughlin John McLaughlin
53 James Hetfield James Hetfield James Alan Hetfield was born on August 3, 1963. He is an American musician, singer and songwriter known for being the co-founder, lead vocalist, rhythm guitarist and main songwriter for the American heavy metal band Metallica.

Hetfield is the best guitarist ever! Just listen to any Metallica song and you'll know what I'm talking about!

Well, I think Hetfield is a better guitarist than Hammett. - Nintendonix

54 Duane Allman Duane Allman Howard Duane Allman was an American guitarist, session musician, and co-founder and leader of the Allman Brothers Band until his death in a motorcycle crash in 1971, when he was 24 years old.

One of the greatest sounds of the guitar. Duane Allman didn't have a lot of time to accomplish his career due to his early death in 1971. Even with his short years he was still a guitar legend.

Look at his circle of influence in short period of time he was here... Clapton, George Harrison etc.

Duane Allman should be in the top 5 with Clapton and Hendrix

58 my ass, you never seen or heard this guy play, should be 3 or 4!

The best...period!

He's really underrated. Just listen to any song of Aerosmith's Rocks or Toys In The Attic and you know what I'm talking about.
by the way, 90s Aerosmith sucks, so don't try that.

Jeeze. Joe Perry at 45? What are you listening to?

59 Carlos Santana Carlos Santana Carlos Santana audio is a Mexican and American musician who first became famous in the late 1960s and early 1970s with his band, Santana, which pioneered a fusion of rock and Latin American music.

Be serious. I have been listening to this guy for 45 years, & it's hard to imagine him standing behind all of these other guys. He's just too good.

Carlos is rated way to low. He should be in the top ten

If you do not think this guy is in the top 10 all time you are crazy.I have listen to his rips for so long and he can play anything, not so for a lot on this list period.

Santana #53? Are you crazy?
