Hardest Fish to Catch

The Top Ten
1 Sailfish A species of billfish found in both the Atlantic and Indian Oceans, the Sailfish is known for its distinctive sail-like dorsal fin. It is one of the fastest marine creatures, capable of swimming at speeds up to 68 miles per hour. The Sailfish primarily feeds on smaller fish and cephalopods.

Once my uncle and dad took me fishing when I was young, and I actually caught one of these. (With their help of course.)

So fast, so smart

2 Muskellunge

My dad and I went fishing a few years ago for Muskellunge. It was very hard to pull up, I almost fell off the boat when I felt it starting to pull and fight.

3 Blue Marlin

I don't know HOW sailfish got to the top spot. Blue marlin are much harder to catch. Sailfish are really fast, but they also get tired rather quickly, now these guys, they're the SYMBOL of sport fishing. I've heard stories of people fighting these beauties for 5 hours, only for the line to snap, and for the poor angler's trophy to swim away, never to be sen again. They're fast, strong, smart, and have incredible acrobatic abilities!

Beautiful specie of fish.

4 Roosterfish
5 Tarpon
6 Pacific Bluefin Tuna
7 Swordfish Swordfish, also known as broadbills in some countries, are large, highly migratory, predatory fish characterized by a long, flat bill.

Man, those must be very hard to catch. I can't even imagine how many people probably got injured trying to catch a swordfish.

8 Goliath Tigerfish

Amazing fish, teeth are devastating, hardest caught fish

This thing is a monster.

9 Whale Shark The whale shark is the world's largest living shark as well as the largest living fish. Whale sharks grow up to 45 ft. (13.7 m) long, and can weigh as much as 13 tons (11.6 tonnes). Their mouths alone are a whopping 6 ft. (1.8 m) across-big enough to gulp down three percent of their body weight in food in one sitting. As well as eating planktonic (microscopic) prey, whale sharks will also take nektonic (larger free-swimming) species, including fish and squid, when they get the chance. However, unlike their smaller cousins, these sharks are real gentle. ...read more.

Um, pretty sure it's illegal to catch them

10 Wahoo
The Contenders
11 Sturgeon

They. are. massive. And I mean MASSIVE. They can grow to the size of small boats!

12 Giant Trevally
13 Yellowfin Tuna
14 Bonefish
15 Permit

Do you need a permit?

16 Giant Freshwater Stingray
17 Paddlefish

What makes them so hard is that you have to (and I mean HAVE TO) catch them only by snagging them. They're filter feeders, so they will ignore any lure, bait, or fly you cast at them.

18 Mako Shark
19 Alligator Gar
