Meat, sauces, fries are also part of French food but only eaten in certain occasions and only for a certain part of people. It's usual in France to eat for lunch only a large mixed salad and fruit for lunch and a vegetable soup, rice (or similar) and fruit for diner. They lot also lots of cereals like Americans (and from same US trade marks). Really good and healthy, the king for Atlantic fishes including the famous blue Lobster.
The French eat just fruit for dinner... from where did you get that misinformation? The French eat beautiful food, not just salad and fruit (and cereals and rice? ). I wouldn't call their cuisine overly healthy but it's very good, and they don't have an obesity problem.
