Top 10 Hit Songs Passed Up by Other Music Artists

Some songs were meant for other singers. Let's see who won and who lost.
The Top Ten
1 I Don't Want To Miss A Thing - Aerosmith (Céline Dion)

I see a trend of a lot of pop artists here (excluding Aerosmith and Stevie Nicks)

This goes to show that pop artists just don't write their own songs, something we've known all along

This hit was first offered to Céline Dion. Now we can only imagine her version...

2 Call Me - Blondie (Stevie Nicks)

I can see Stevie Nicks singing this song, but I think it's best that she passed it up. More power to her, plus, Debbie Harry really pulled it off.

I'm sure Stevie would have done it well but thankfully she passed as I can't imagine it being better than Debirah Harry's definitive performance

3 Baby One More Time - Britney Spears (TLC, Backstreet Boys)
4 Since U Been Gone - Kelly Clarkson (Pink, Hilary Duff)

... And Kelly got a Grammy ...

5 Umbrella - Rihanna (Britney Spears)
6 Rock Your Body - Justin Timberlake (Michael Jackson)
7 How Will I Know - Whitney Houston (Janet Jackson)
8 Toxic - Britney Spears (Kylie Minogue)

This song won the pop star her first Grammy.
Minogue said in 2008: "It's like the fish that got away. You just have to accept it."

9 Breakaway - Kelly Clarkson (Avril Lavigne)
10 Let's Get Loud - Jennifer Lopez (Gloria Estefan)
The Contenders
11 Wagon Wheel - Old Crow Medicine Show (Bob Dylan)

The Darius Rucker version is the most well known! But anyway,

Bob Dylan wrote this song, and hated it so much that he never recorded it, then in 01 Old Crow Medicine Show recorded it

12 Whataya Want from Me - Adam Lambert (P!nk)
13 Irreplaceable - Beyoncé (Faith Hill, Shania Twain)
14 We Found Love - Rihanna (Leona Lewis, Nicole Scherzinger)

Nicole Scherzinger admitted to Notion Magazine: "I passed on 'We Found Love'. I've got the demo of that song and I was busy at the time."

15 Don't Cha - The Pussycat Dolls (Paris Hilton)

Not that Paris Hilton is a music artist but this song was meant for her. Oh dear...

16 Suffragette City - David Bowie (Mott the Hoople)

Bowie offered this song to Mott the Hoople, but they didn't like it. So, in typical Bowie fashion, he wrote the "All the Young Dudes" for them, which became a glam rock anthem.

17 I'm a Slave 4 U - Britney Spears (Janet Jackson)
