Great British Comedy: House Of Fools

Out of every country, I must admit, Britain has the best comedy. But, a lot of users are American, and only watch American comedy. Well, you should give these shows a try. I know, I have been rather inconsistent with my blog posts recently, but I am now getting back in it. So, this is my new series, and I hope you watch some of these comedies!

House of fools was made by an amazing comedy duo consisting of Vic Reeves and Bob Mortimer. They started with comedies like the smell of Reeves and Mortimer, and that exact show remains the craziest show on TV. No doubt. They continued their craziness with more fantastic shows like bang bang! It's Reeves and Mortimer. Their most popular show, however, was named shooting stars, and they got many celebrity guests on it. But, after shooting stars finished, they had a break.

I watched Vic and Bob since I was 9 years old, and I remember watching shooting stars for the first time, and I watched the same episode 4 years later, remembering every word. But, when I found out Vic and Bob are making a new show, it was amazing.

So, the actual show started in early 2014, with a pilot episode named "the Conan affair". The plot for the entire series is quite simple, it is a sitcom about Bob living on his own, until his house is bombarded with unwanted guests. Here are the characters:

Bob: Bob is an ordinary man living in his house, and throughout the 1st series is constantly attempting to get rid of his guests. He accepts their presence a little more in series 2, as they spend a lot of the time in the bistro. Bob wearing his wig is also a big part of the series.

Vic: Vic is Bob's best friend and at the beginning of the series, Bob desperately wants him out the house, but Vic convinces him to stay. He is not as logical as Bob and just seems not to have the sense of awareness Bob has.

Julie (Morgana Robinson): Julie is Bob's crazy, eccentric neighbour. In series one, she just lives in her own house and is just very odd, but in series 2, she owns her own bistro.

Erik (Daniel Simonson): Erik is Bob's Norwegian son who lives upstairs, barely leaving his room. Barely anyone enters his room as well, as it has several locks on it. He hates his father (Bob), but admires Vic.

Rachel (Ellie White): Rachel did not appear in the 1st series, but in the 1st episode of series 2, Erik goes on a blind date, meeting Rachel, who is like a female version of Erik.

Bosh (Dan Skinner): Bosh is Vic's brother who has just been let out of jail. He tricks Bob into thinking he had hooping cough, therefore forcing Bob to let him stay there. In series 2, he gets a job at the bistro. Dan Skinner has also appeared as Angelos Epithimou with Vic and Bob in various other shows.

Beef (Matt Berry): Already one of my favourite comedians and actors, BAFTA winning Matt Berry certainly makes his presence in the show prominent. He is an character, with a thing for Africans, and he is defiantly the best character.

So, I think this is the greatest sitcom of all time, with it's crazy, eccentric characters and whacky scenes, this is worth a watch if you love things like this. Thank you for reading!

I would give them a try, but you should also try American comedy. - visitor

I have. it isn't my thing, too many people wanting to be whacky. I like shows that are legit whacky. - visitor

Being a fan of both, I do think there are very distinct differences, but it's mainly on Britain's part. It's a lot more original and unique, and can be a surreal random or a sharp quip. - PositronWildhawk

But you like the Simpsons! Or do you mean live action? - visitor

I dislike the MAJORITY of American comedies, obviously there will be some good ones. I worded that badly. - visitor

Sitcoms from America I find are worth watching:
The Big Bang Theory, Brooklyn Nine-nine, Frasier, Friends, The Simpsons.

Sitcoms from Britain I find are worth watching:
Spaced, Fawlty Towers, Red Dwarf, IT Crowd, Green Wing, Goodness Gracious Me, Blackadder, Porridge, Only Fools, Good Life, Young Ones, and so many more.
