Most Iconic 60s Songs

A much tougher list to compile, I've found. I've left out a LOT of great songs you're welcome to add yourselves. For starters, I tried to limit things to one song per artist, or else this would be full of Beatles, Creedence, and Beach Boys songs.

The Top Ten

With A Little Help From My Friends - Joe Cocker With A Little Help From My Friends - Joe Cocker Cover Art

There's a reason why this 1969 classic features as the theme song to "The Wonder Years". It's THE song of the late 60s. The Beatles version just doesn't compare.

I will say you are one of the few people who prefer this version.

Fortunate Son - Creedence Clearwater Revival Fortunate Son - Creedence Clearwater Revival Cover Art

I personally prefer "Proud Mary", but this is by far the more iconic Creedence song of the late 60s.

Eleanor Rigby - The Beatles Eleanor Rigby - The Beatles Cover Art

My favourite Beatles song, I'll openly confess to bias here. Feel free to add others if you feel they're more iconic.

I love this song! It's probably my favorite from them, too!

Very awesome song.

It’s a very relaxing song with a great melody.

(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction - The Rolling Stones (I Can't Get No) Satisfaction - The Rolling Stones Cover Art
Stand By Me - Ben E. King Stand By Me - Ben E. King Cover Art

The film is set in 1959, the song was released in 1961-2, oddly enough.

California Dreamin' (Single) - The Mamas & The Papas California Dreamin' (Single) - The Mamas & The Papas Cover Art

This one takes me back to the 60s in an instant...and I was born in 1980.

Hey Jude - The Beatles Hey Jude - The Beatles Cover Art
For What It's Worth - Buffalo Springfield For What It's Worth - Buffalo Springfield Cover Art

This had to be here, even if it's not a personal favourite of mine particularly. Some might even rank it #1.

God Only Knows - The Beach Boys God Only Knows - The Beach Boys Cover Art

It's The Beach Boys. It's Pet Sounds. It's the late 60s. It's poetry set to music.

Happy Together - The Turtles Happy Together - The Turtles Cover Art

From the era that gave you The Beatles, The Kinks, The Byrds, etc. Beautiful song.

The Contenders

Can't Help Falling in Love - Elvis Presley Can't Help Falling in Love - Elvis Presley Cover Art

This song is PURE POP.

What a Wonderful World - Louis Armstrong What a Wonderful World - Louis Armstrong Cover Art
Light My Fire - The Doors Light My Fire - The Doors Cover Art

I struggled to find room for this on the list, so I'm glad someone added it even if it's probably my fourth or fifth favourite Doors song.

Gimme Shelter - The Rolling Stones Gimme Shelter - The Rolling Stones Cover Art

Any 60s Stones song probably deserves a mention, I settled on this one.

My Girl - The Temptations My Girl - The Temptations Cover Art
I'm a Believer - The Monkees I'm a Believer - The Monkees Cover Art
