Most Iconic 70s Songs

As with my 80s and 90s list, there's SO many more songs that I could've included, so feel free to submit your own. Even if it's an Eagles song :(

The Top Ten

1 Bohemian Rhapsody - Queen Bohemian Rhapsody - Queen

Queen Is gay

Incorrect. Freddie Mercury was the only non-heterosexual member of the band. You already knew that, however. - truckturner

We need a list of iconic 60s songs. - Misfire

YES! - Misfire

Obligatory. - truckturner

2 Dancing Queen - ABBA Dancing Queen - ABBA

Man, I really hate this song, but it is an iconic 70s song. - RobertWisdom

Far from my favourite ABBA song but easily one of the most identifiably and iconic 70s songs. - truckturner

You are the dancing queen, young and sweet, only seventeen! - Misfire

3 Stayin' Alive - Bee Gees Stayin' Alive - Bee Gees

Love or hate disco, love or hate The Bee Gees, Disco was a huge thing in the 70s and so were The Bee Gees. - truckturner

4 Theme From Shaft - Isaac Hayes

Your mileage may differ, but as a film buff when I think 70s, I think blaxploitation. So it makes sense for me to put this iconic 70s theme song here. This IS 70s music to me. - truckturner

5 Run Through the Jungle - Creedence Clearwater Revival

1970. The best song from my favourite band, and again there's a movie connection. This is the ultimate Vietnam War song (or at least it's one of the songs most often used to underscore the Vietnam War in movies). - truckturner

6 Happy Xmas (War Is Over) - John Lennon, Yoko Ono, The Harlem Community Choir & The Plastic Ono Band

I love this Christmas song! - Misfire

Beautiful song. - Userguy44

Pretty self-explanatory, no? - truckturner

7 Imagine - John Lennon
8 Go Your Own Way - Fleetwood Mac

Probably the best-known song by the band off their best-known album. - truckturner

Forrest Gump.

9 Hotel California - Eagles

This song is a masterpiece. I LOVE the intro, the chorus is easy to sing along and the solo is so badass. Definitely on my personal top ten favourite song of all time. Bring me back to the good old years. If you don't like this song, you don't know what real music is.

This is my list and I know what real music is...and this ain't it. I knew someone would add it and it is indeed iconic, but I can't stand the Eagles. That said, objectively it deserves to be here. - truckturner

Very successful - LightningStrike

10 Sweet Home Alabama - Lynyrd Skynyrd

The Contenders

11 The Long and Winding Road - The Beatles

The break-up of The Beatles was an iconic 70s moment, and this was arguably their last great song. - truckturner

12 Smoke on the Water - Deep Purple
13 Blitzkrieg Bop - Ramones
14 I Will Survive - Gloria Gaynor
15 Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap - AC/DC

Filthy acts done for a reasonable price - Murphdog405

My favourite AC/DC song off my favourite AC/DC album, you may prefer something else from Bon and the boys in the 70s but as an Aussie it'd be criminal (no convict jokes, please) to leave them off the list. - truckturner

16 Dream On - Aerosmith
17 Stairway to Heaven - Led Zeppelin
18 Child in Time - Deep Purple
19 Money - Pink Floyd
20 Won't Get Fooled Again - The Who
21 Ring My Bell - Anita Ward
22 Black Sabbath - Black Sabbath

The birth of metal? Arguably. One of the most terrifying sounds of the 70s? Undoubtedly. - truckturner

Did you see the lighter get relit? - Murphdog405

This is how you Rock in The 70s! - RobertWisdom

Funky! - RobertWisdom

26 Dark Lady - Cher
27 We Will Rock You - Queen
28 Cat Scratch Fever - Ted Nugent

Hey, it's the evil racist! - RobertWisdom

Or at the very least an ultra right-wing, animal killing, insensitive jerk. Yeah. Overrated musician too, in my humble opinion. I didn't put this one on the list. - truckturner
