Top 10 Most Important Albums in Extreme Metal History

The Contenders: Page 2

21 Enthrone Darkness Triumphant - Dimmu Borgir
22 Heartwork - Carcass
23 Don't Break the Oath - Mercyful Fate

Just to remind you: lyrics are about Satan and the occult which was probably influential towards the lyrical themes of black metal but music of this album isn't extreme - it's rather traditional heavy metal.
I mean, this album deserves to be mentioned on this list but shouldn't be very high. - Metal_Treasure

24 Ride the Lightning - Metallica

Absolutly masterpiece.Guitar work is amazing. - pruvet

25 Epicus Doomicus Metallicus - Candlemass

Created Epic Doom Metal

26 The Downward Spiral - Nine Inch Nails

Very great and necessary album - Jiorl

No, it's not neccessary, and not even metal. - somekindofaguy

@Jiorl - I don't say this album isn't great. I only say it's not metal. - Metal_Treasure

For the record, I didn't add this album and I wouldn't - because it's not a metal album. Nine Inch Nails isn't a metal band and it's not only my opinion - metal music experts from E. Metallum think the same and this band wasn't included in the Metal Archives.
This album isn't in the picture. - Metal_Treasure

27 Black Sabbath - Black Sabbath

There is nothing extreme in this album. Furthermore, the only metal song of the album is Black Sabbath, the rest is heavy and bluesy hard rock... now try to say The Wizard is extreme with harmonica... - somekindofaguy

I didn't add this album because 1) it's not extreme; 2) the only song that is related to metal is Black Sabbath - a very dark doomy song but again, not extreme. - Metal_Treasure

This album doesn't have a single extreme metal song it in and the only metal song in it isn't extreme metal... - HiBye

28 Under a Funeral Moon - Darkthrone
29 Transylvanian Hunger - Darkthrone
30 Effigy of the Forgotten - Suffocation
31 Covenant - Morbid Angel
32 Wages of Sin - Arch Enemy
33 Lunar Strain - In Flames
34 Terminal Spirit Disease - At the Gates
35 Filosofem - Burzum

Probably the best burzum album and burzum was one of the most influential black metal bands so why is it not here already

36 Unhallowed - The Black Dahlia Murder

This album came out in 2003 and I need to be convinced that is was very important to death metal/melodic death metal (both created much earlier). - Metal_Treasure

This album is what deathcore wanted to be and failed epically.

37 Slaughter of the Soul - At the Gates
38 The Return... - Bathory
39 Dopethrone - Electric Wizard
40 Peace Sells... but Who's Buying? - Megadeth
