A lot of people don't know what the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame or rock n' roll is meant to be. It did not start with white long-haired dudes playing at a garage, it started with black people singing blues and doo-wop music in the streets. And then, blues was mixed with country and gospel into something new, called rock n' roll (as a 50s genre), which evolved into rock music. You should also know that blues had two "sons" named R&B and soul, who also gave birth to disco, new jack swing, hip-hop, and is even related to pop. So any outstanding and significant artist, regardless of genre, can be enrolled in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. So now it makes sense.

The Rock n Roll Hall of Fame encompasses all genres of music. It probably should be renamed as the "Music Hall of Fame". Do you think that 50s soul and doo wop singers should be kicked out too? Everybody on this list deserves to be in the Hall of Fame due to their contributions to music as a whole. It should not be dependent on what "genre" you are.

2 Michael Jackson Michael Jackson (Michael Joseph Jackson; August 29, 1958 – June 25, 2009) was an American singer, dancer, and songwriter. Michael Jackson does not deserve to be in The Rock and Roll Hall of fame, because for the same reason for Stevie and Madonna, because he's just not Rock. The only thing that he ever did which was even close to rock was his collaboration with Eddie Van Halen. Even then that's just one song.

Michael Jackson never made rock music. He's also the King of Pop. How is he on the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame?

Beat It is definitely a rock song. The guitar riffs were done by Eddie Van Halen.

If your body of work has NOTHING to do with rock 'n' roll, go play in the Hip Hop Hall of Fame.

He's terrible and he isn't rock in the slightest.

Not much of a rock star, good rapper though.

With global sales of over 75 million records, Franklin is one of the best-selling music artists from the second half of the 20th century to the present.

Aretha does not belong in the hall of fame for doing nothing for rock, and not being rock.

The most overrated female singer ever.

6 ABBA ABBA are a Swedish pop group formed in Stockholm in 1972 by members Agnetha Fältskog, Björn Ulvaeus, Benny Andersson, and Anni-Frid Lyngstad.

Don't get me wrong I love ABBA, but they are only the greatest pop group ever, not rock.

7 Stevie Wonder Stevland Hardaway Morris, known by his stage name Stevie Wonder, is an American musician, singer, songwriter, record producer, and multi-instrumentalist.

It's a wonder... I wonder if Stevie wonders why he's there too. I like him but you're right, he doesn't quite belong in RnR HoF. I might push for me to become inductee too. I have as much right as he does.

Stevie Wonder does not deserve to be in the rock n roll hall of fame, for not being rock, just like with #1. However, he's at least a better songwriter than Madonna, so he's lower.

8 Public Enemy Public Enemy is an American hip hop group consisting of Chuck D, Flavor Flav, Professor Griff, Khari Wynn, DJ Lord, and the S1W group.

Yup, a hip hop band is there. But Iron Maiden aren't... Shame.

The Contenders
11 Janet Jackson Janet Jackson is a singer and dancer who is well known for her sexually graphic records, iconic performances, and slightly weak voice. She is regarded as a sex symbol through her songs and videos.

I honestly think the only reason she was even considered was because they needed a big name to draw in tickets for the ceremony. Her music style does not draw from rock at all.

They deserve it to be in it... because they at least play rock music unlike Madonna or Michael Jackson (Even though I like Michael Jackson)

Any rock artists are qualifiable in this induction.

I disagree with this - with all their mistakes, they are still an iconic metal band with some great albums.
"...lack of talent presented in Metallica's music"?! Oh...

It's a bit exaggeration. Maybe they sold out, but they rocked back in their early days, and they were extremely important.

Metallica does not deserve to be in the rock n roll hall of fame for being sellouts, and for lack of talent presented in Metallica's music.

If they disn't deserve to be in that stupid hall of fame then who does! No one help define rock music more than they did! Just dumb!

The Beatles were a POP band, not a rock 'n' roll band.
