He gets exiled for it, and has to live with the emotional pain of what he did and whether it was right. However, he has always truly belonged in the North. The wildlings love him, and he gets to reunite with and finally pet Ghost. Bittersweet, and similar to Frodo’s ending in Lord of the Rings.
