Top Ten Most Interesting Countries That Begin With "L"
The most interesting countries that begin with the letter L. Last week I made the list about the I and K countries so we will move on to L now. With that being said, here's the list.
Latvia, officially the Republic of Latvia, is a country in the Baltic region of Northern Europe. It is one of the Baltic states; and is bordered by Estonia to the north, Lithuania to the south, Russia to the east, Belarus to the southeast, and shares a maritime border with Sweden to the west. Latvia covers an area of 64,589 km2 (24,938 sq mi), with a population of 1.9 million. The country has a temperate seasonal climate. Its capital and largest city is Riga. Latvians belong to the ethno-linguistic group of the Balts; and speak Latvian, one of the only two surviving Baltic languages. Russians are the most prominent minority in the country, at almost a quarter of the population. Latvia, the other baltic country with a surviving baltic language along with Lithuania. I mean now sure, Lithuania is a bit more interesting because their history feels a bit more fascinating and same for their language, but hey. This is the baltics we're talking about. The baltics are all amazing, this one has the most interesting shape of them all, as it looks like a heart and it has among the longest beaches in all of the baltics, and the most interesting coastline overall. I mean there's first the western-most coast at Ventspils and Liepaja which is where the beaches are located, then after it goes up we arrive at the riga bay in the south-east, and then you get up north to Estonia. It's an interesting shape.
Most interesting place in the world. Forests, medieval city centres, music, cheap prices, few people, not so harsh winters.

Now, this might be somewhat of a biased choice since I am half-lithuanian, but I am trying to look at Lithuania as objectively as possible too. Lithuania is in my opinion the most interesting baltic state and overall most interesting country on L easly and it has gorgeous plains and forests. Most forests in Lithuania even have their own statues that symbolizes the old lithuanian gods. I mean this is such a interesting country honestly
Lebanon was established in 1920 and gained its independence in 1943. For a couple of years it has lacked a president; yet, on October 31st, 2016, it got president Michel Aoun. Lebanon is situated in the middle of the fertile crescent on the eastern Mediterranean sea overlooking Europe, North Africa and Asia. It can also be seen as the center of the world by holding Asia and Africa and Europe together like a bridge or a tie or even a knot. Syria occupies it from the North and East while the Mediterranean Sea occupies it from the West and Israel from the South. Lebanon has among the oldest history of the arab countries and were the country where the phoenicians originated from and they are surely interesting. They were quite famous for seafaring and they are the main reason Lebanon is so high up. I mean the phoenicians are among the most interesting people to have ever roamed the earth and the city is Byblos, just so interesting.
Libya, officially the State of Libya, is a country in the Maghreb region of North Africa bordered by the Mediterranean Sea to the north, Egypt to the east, Sudan to the southeast, Chad and Niger to the south, and Algeria and Tunisia to the west. You know about Italy, right? One of the most interesting European countries in my opinion. Libya is an african country in the maghreb region and an arab country that has actually been a bit influenced by italian culture and it's surely quite fascinating. As another country in the northern regions of Africa, it's another berber country and I really like the berber culture as I find it to be quite interesting to say the least and it's very underrated to be honest.
Laos, officially the Lao People's Democratic Republic (LPDR), or commonly referred to its colloquial name of Muang Lao is a landlocked country in the heart of the Indochinese peninsula of Mainland Southeast Asia, bordered by Myanmar (Burma) and China to the northwest, Vietnam to the east, Cambodia to the south, and Thailand to the west. South-east asia, everyone's favourite tourist destination. Well, I honestly find it to be a bit boring down there and uninteresting for the most part. No difference, this kinda goes for Laos as well. I'm not saying it's completely uninteresting though. I mean still, every country is interesting in their own way and Laos has some pros in terms of history as it used to be part of the vietnamese wars and unfortunately because of this there are many landmines scattered around this country. But still it's interesting in its own way.
Liberia, officially the Republic of Liberia, is a country on the West African coast. Liberia means "Land of the Free" in Latin. No country has a history like Liberia. It's so unique and different from all the other countries in Africa which were colonized by the europeans and later recieved their independence. This country has a completely different history though. It was never colonized by the europeans but slaves from America who had been allowed to be free had been offered to start a new life in this very country, so technically slaves colonized it, yeah, it's a bit complex but yet agian that's what makes it so interesting. No country has a history like Liberia.
Liechtenstein is a very tiny country in Europe. It is between Switzerland and Austria. It is known for its mountains. The official language in Liechtenstein is German. On January 23, 1719, Liechtenstein was discovered, and it established independence from the Holy Roman Empire on July 12, 1806. Its biggest ally is Switzerland. It is the 4th smallest country in Europe and has a Royal Family. Little lichtenstein, stuck in-between Switzerland and Austria, this is one of the only five countries in the world with german as an official language (the other ones being Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Namibia) and one of the only two doubly landlocked countries in the world, the other one being Uzbekistan. Lichtenstein is tiny but it holds a lot of history nevertheless which is fascinating to study.
Luxembourg, officially the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, is a landlocked country in western Europe. It is bordered by Belgium to the west and north, Germany to the east, and France to the south. Its capital, Luxembourg City, is one of the four official capitals of the European Union (together with Brussels, Frankfurt, and Strasbourg) and the seat of the Court of Justice of the European Union, the highest judicial authority in the EU. Its culture, people, and languages are highly intertwined with its neighbors, making it a mixture of French and German cultures. It has three official languages: French, German, and the national language of Luxembourgish. It's the smallest non-micro state in Europe, however it's sometimes classified as a micro-state and in that case it would be the biggest micro-state of Europe, even though all the other micro-states fit into this country alone and you'd still have about half of the land left for more countries other micro-states. It's a bit complex, I consider it to be one considering it's still small and it lt took me a while to first find it on the map. It actually used to be way bigger but the size has sadly reduced, but it has interesting history in my opinion, I must say.
Lesotho, officially the Kingdom of Lesotho, is an enclaved, landlocked country in southern Africa completely surrounded by South Africa. It is by far the largest of the world's three independent states completely surrounded by the territory of another country, with Vatican City and San Marino being the other two. Additionally, it is the only such state outside the Italian peninsula, and the only one that is not a microstate. Lesotho is just over 30,000 km2 (11,583 sq mi) and has a population of about 2 million. Its capital and largest city is Maseru. The official languages are Sesotho and English. ...read more. Unfortunately Lesotho takes the L on the list (no pun intended). Doesn't mean it's uninteresting though. It's cool as well. You see this is one of the most mountainous countries in Africa. Located in the far south of Africa, Lesotho is an enclave inside South Africa and it's quite small. It pretty much only consists of mountains, very high up. This gives them a lot of snow, yeah, snow, in an african country. We're talking high mountains. Thanks to this people can ski here. I mean it's awesome.
