Best Jewish Holidays
Jews have so many great holidays. Let's rank them! I left off Shabbat, the Jewish day of rest, since it occurs every week and isn't a holiday in the usual sense of the word.Aka Pesach. We have a long seder meal (or two), drink wine, eat matzah, kids ask questions. Clean the house, some don't eat chametz (bread for example). In the spring. Celebrates exodus from Egypt.
We build sukkahs (huts), live in them, and decorate them. We also shake lulav and etrog. Autumn festival.
You all know this one. We light the menorah, spin dreidels, eat latkes, and get gifts. Also spelled Chanukah.
Dress up in costumes, exchange gifts, give charity. Adults get drunk, have parties. Read megillah scroll with story of Esther.
Jewish New Year. We blow shofars (ram horns), dip apple in honey, and eat a bunch of exotic fruit. (Also considered "the day of judgment," since it occurs a week before Yom Kippur, the day of atonement and traditionally the holiest day of the year.)
Bonfires! Plus singing and dancing
Celebrates receiving the Torah on Mount Sinai. Eat cheesecake, study Torah, and decorate with flowers
Celebrates yearly reading of Torah, with joyful dancing in the synagogue
New Year for trees. Eat all kinds of fruit and plant trees
First day of each month in the Jewish calendar
