Top 10 Kansas City Chiefs Rivalries

As you might already know I’m a Chiefs fan through and through. As with any team you’ll have some bitter rivalries. Here’s some of the more notable rivals of the Chiefs
The Top Ten
1 Oakland Raiders The Las Vegas Raiders are a professional American football franchise based in Las Vegas. The Raiders began playing in 1960 as a member club of the American Football League; they have been a member club of the National Football League since the 1970 AFL–NFL merger... read more

The Chiefs and Raiders rivalry is a harsh, hostile, and bitter rivalry. These two teams just straight up hate each other. They go way back to the AFL days. There's been a lot of notable games between these two teams including 1968 in a playoff game where both teams were 12-2, there's the 1969 AFL championship, the 1970 tie which was when the rivalry truly started to boil. Chiefs were leading late but Ben David dove into Len Dawson with his helmet and was then Ben David was attacked by Chiefs wide receiver Otis Taylor which sparked a bench clearing brawl. There's also the 2017 Thursday night game in which Oakland won 31-30. Kansas City currently leads the series 65-53-2 and has a 2-1 postseason advantage despite Oakland having 3 Super Bowls and KC has 1. As a Chiefs Fan there's three things that are inevitable. Death, Taxes, and hating the Oakland Raiders

2 Denver Broncos The Denver Broncos are an American football team based in Denver, Colorado. The Broncos compete in the National Football League as a member club of the league's American Football Conference West division.

Denver is another division foe who has been in the same division as KC since the AFL days. Both these teams have hostile home environments and the games are usually close. Some highlights from this rivalry could be seen during the Jon Elway era at Denver including his shootout with Joe Montana as well as the game in Arrowhead where the Chiefs fans were so loud they almost got a penalty because Elway couldn't hear. This rivalry has been pretty tense but not as tense as the Raiders rivalry. Kansas City currently leads 63-55 all time but Denver has a 1-0 advantage in the playoffs

3 Indianapolis Colts The Indianapolis Colts are an American football team based in Indianapolis, Indiana. The Colts compete in the National Football League as a member club of the American Football Conference South division.

The Chiefs and Colts rivalry isn't really notable for the regular season games but rather for their postseason meetings. They have met in the playoffs 5 times and Indianapolis is 4-1 so far. There was the 2003 AFC divisional game and 2006 wild card game. The most memorable had to have been the 2013 wild card game in which Indy won 45-44 after Kansas City went full Reid. The most recent playoff matchup was 2018 in which Kansas City won 31-13. Indianapolis leads the All Time Series 16-10

4 Los Angeles Chargers The Los Angeles Chargers are a professional American football team based in Los Angeles. The Chargers compete in the National Football League as a member club of the league's American Football Conference West division.

The Chiefs and Chargers rivalry isn't quite as strong as the other divisional foes. Don't get me wrong we still hate them but not as strongly as Denver or Oakland. Kansas City leads 61-56-1 but the Chargers have a 1-0 advantage in the playoffs. This rivalry has heated up recently with both KC and LA in contention for a division title. KC has won 9 of the last 10 but LA won the last meeting at Arrowhead in a classic game

5 Buffalo Bills The Buffalo Bills are a professional American football team based in the Buffalo–Niagara Falls metropolitan area that competes in the National Football League. Buffalo Bills had the longest playoff drought of any team which came to an end in 2017.

Oddly enough yes this rivalry has been in existence for awhile Buffalo leads 26-21-1 and 2-1 in the playoffs. While not as big anymore it was pretty big in the 60s and early 90s.

I had no idea this was even a rivalry.

6 Green Bay Packers The Green Bay Packers are a professional American football team based in Green Bay, Wisconsin. The Packers compete in the National Football League as a member club of the league's National Football Conference North division. The Packers have won 4 Super Bowls and 13 NFL championships.

This rivalry started when these two teams met in Super Bowl I. While it has gone dormant since these two teams only meet once every four years there's still been some memorable moments including the 2003 game in which KC won 40-34 in OT. In 2007 Brett Farve beat the Chiefs to get a win against every NFL team. In 2011 Kansas City pulled off an upset over the 13-0 packers giving them their only loss of the regular season. KC leads all time 7-4-1. With the two teams set to meet in the 2019 season it will be interesting to see what happens in Rodgers vs Mahomes

7 New England Patriots The New England Patriots are a professional American football team based in the Greater Boston region. New England Patriots are one of the few teams to have 5+ wins in the Super Bowl.

Is there any team New England isn't rivals with at this point? These two teams have had an interesting rivalry over the past few years with the Patriots winning 3 of the last 5 including two playoff wins

To the Chiefs, please do us a favor and win against Tom Brady

The Chiefs and dolphins have met exactly 30 times in their history including 3 playoff meetings. Miami has won all 3 and leads 16-14 all time. This rivalry has kinda gone dormant however

9 Pittsburgh Steelers The Pittsburgh Steelers are a professional American football team based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, that competes in the National Football League. Pittsburgh Steelers have won the most Super Bowls with 6 which currently stands today.

These two teams have met twice in the playoffs and 35 times overall. The Steelers have been dominant in the series winning 23 opposed to Kansas City winning 12. They have split the postseason meetings 1-1

10 St. Louis/LA Rams The Los Angeles Rams are a professional American football team based in the Los Angeles metropolitan area.

The Rams and Chiefs aren't really big rivals but met when the Rams were in St Louis and would play for the governors Cup. Kansas City led the in state rivalry 6-0
