Top 10 Best Languages of India

The Top Ten
1 Tamil

Tamil is the first language that was spoken by humankind. It has spread all over the world. Tamil words are still used by people in South Korea, some African countries, and Thailand, among others. It has been proven. Many Tamil traditions are followed by various countries around the world. No other language has had this kind of impact.

Tamil has many special features. It has its own incredible grammar and is a natural language.

Everyone loves Tamil because of its ancient culture, and every district has its own way of speaking Tamil. For example, if you go to Madurai, they speak differently. If you go to Thanjai, they speak differently. If you go to "Thoothukodi", they speak differently, and so on. Tamil has so many shapes and beautiful words. If you are a book lover, then you must read at least one Tamil book that tells something about history, and you will admire every word.

2 Telugu

Telugu is a pride unto its people. It stays in the culture and becomes one with its younger generation through the colloquial tongue and the numerous films. It is called the Italian of the East due to its words ending with vowels, thus lending it a sweet note.

Telugu is a South-Central Dravidian language with the third largest number of native speakers in India (75 million). It is one of the twenty-two scheduled languages of the Republic of India and is primarily spoken in the states of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. It is also spoken in some neighboring states.

3 Bengali

If a random intellectual is asked what the most beautiful language in the world is, he would probably say it's French. Yeah, we can't quite disagree with him. But there's a language on Earth, less known by Europeans, which is much more affluent, much more artistic, and much more magical - it's Bengali. Rich history, superior literary works, and a noble intellectual society (once). I really wish Bengali reclaims its due honor. Things weren't so bad just two decades ago. I am happy I found the most beautiful literary works written in Bengali. Life won't be the same once you come across this gem...

4 Kannada

Kannada is one of the sweetest-sounding languages in India. It represents not only the native state of Karnataka but also its culture, customs, people, and food. Kannada boasts a total of 8 Jnanapeeta awards, all from one state! This is the second-highest number and is enough to prove the greatness of Kannada literature. The historical background also proves that Kannada is the oldest Dravidian language. It is easy to learn and similar to Sanskrit. Kannada is one of the most beautiful languages you'll ever get to speak or listen to!

5 Hindi

All Indian languages are beautiful. I'm obviously biased here since Hindi is my mother tongue. I like how Hindi uses z's and f's but not the gutturals (don't come at me saying it's Urdu. A language is made by its speakers). And yet it sounds absolutely enchanting, even better, when spoken in its pure Sanskrit form.

The best thing about Hindi, though, is that it can be romantic (think of songs like Barso Re Megha or Tu Hai from Mohenjo Daro), colloquial, or highly technical (as proven by Hindi news channels and medical panelists during recent coronavirus coverage).

6 Malayalam

This language is so low because of fewer speakers. But the fact is that this is the toughest of all languages in India and can be in the top 10 list of the world's most difficult languages. It demands much effort and exercises from you as even a below-average Malayalam speaker uses probably every muscle in his vocal part to speak this beautiful language. Also, Malayalees are the best at learning any other languages and pronouncing them fluently. That's partly because Malayalam has borrowed many words from other languages, including European, West Asian, and East Asian.

7 Marathi

Marathi is the most sweet and beautiful language I have come across, along with Bengali, in all of India. I would definitely vote for this one. It also has more than 80 million speakers in India, making it the fourth most spoken language in India. It is old and very rich in literature. I just loved it. Check out songs like Apsara Aali and Dhaga Dhaga to understand the sweetness and beauty of this beautiful language.

History. Indian languages, including Marathi, that belong to the Indo-Aryan language family, are derived from early forms of Sanskrit. Marathi is one of several languages that further descend from Maharashtri Prakrit...!

8 Punjabi

I recently married in Chennai, and I hate Tamil. I really miss my culture and language. Punjabi is the best language, and our Punjabi culture is the best.

Punjabi is the language of lions. I love Punjabi and I am proud to be a Punjabi.

Punjabi is the best language. Love Punjab.

9 Gujarati

I will not say, like others, that it's the best on the earth or the planet. But Gujarati is a language for all. All other Indian languages are also beautiful.

It is fun to speak Gujarati because of its ease of speaking and listening.

10 Urdu

Urdu is the national language of Pakistan, and they are so blessed because it's a beautiful language, spoken, written, and heard. Bollywood is ridden with Urdu words. No song in its history would've been complete without heartfelt words like "dua", "humsafar", "meherbaan". The list goes on. Bollywood overuses Urdu words, a lot. In fact, Bollywood is an Urdu or Hindustani industry, far from Hindi, and even adopts Islamic terms. The Mughals, after all, left their impact.

I got lost on the day of Hajj and found that hardly anyone could speak my native English. After hours of wandering, I realized that I was using the wrong language. Switching to Urdu saved the day. A surprising number of Arabs can speak a heavily accented version of it.

The Contenders
11 Oriya

Odia is the third oldest language after Tamil and Sanskrit. It evolved from the merging of Aryan and Dravidian languages. The number of its speakers has declined due to continuous natural disasters in Odisha, leading people to move to western, central, and north-eastern India. The development of the Odia language is found to be a mixture of Tamil and Sanskrit, as the Odias (people of Odisha) are believed to have traded with Indonesia, Sri Lanka, and China in ancient times.

As I know, Oriya is not a mixture of any Tamil language. We know Sanskrit is the father of languages, and Oriya language also originated from Sanskrit. However, we can say it is similar to the Bengali language. Oriya is one of the oldest languages of our nation.

12 Sanskrit

This is the real language of the elite. You can't feel inferior in any way when Sanskrit rests on your tongue. Seriously, it's the language of Gods.

Sanskrit is the mother of all languages. It is the language of God. It is the most grammatical language. It is sad to see fewer people speaking this language while there are more people speaking Greek and Arabic.

Sanskrit is the mother of all the languages in the world. It is also one of the oldest languages in the world, but not older than Tamil, my mother tongue. Sanskrit is the language of Hindu gods.

13 English

It is the most common language. That is all I can say. It offers more opportunities and enables us to communicate with more people. It is now the world's language. Everyone knows English. Other than that, it is a very basic language. Nothing special about it.

Effective language to communicate anywhere in the world...

14 Maithili

I like Maithili because it's the sweetest language for conversation.

The language name 'Maithili' itself means Goddess Sita. Maithili culture is the most beautiful.

Maithili is the sweetest language. Even scolding sounds respectful and sweet.

15 Bhojpuri

My people say it is a very rough language, and these people don't know anything about this language. Why do they think so?

No words can describe such a beautiful language. Very sweet and simple.

16 Assamese

The easiest to learn and most effective communication medium is Assamese. Very sweet to hear without any sharp and harsh pronunciation, that is the beauty of the Assamese language. One can express his or her feelings with very little vocabulary.

It's a popular language in the Northeast. People of the entire Northeast can speak this language. It's a means of communication among the Northeast people in daily life.

The Assamese language is the best-sounding language in India. It is older than Bengali.

17 Rajasthani
18 Konkani

It is a language spoken along the west coast of India, across Maharashtra, Goa, Karnataka, and Kerala. It is a logical language and has many dialects according to the region in which it is spoken. It has a touch of royalty in its most pristine form.

I love Konkani because it's a mixture of Marathi, Kannada, and Hindi. Let Konkani hail!

19 Tulu

Easiest language to learn but toughest language to write. No one ever will learn to write Tulu because it's too tough. But the sweetest language in the world.

20 Nepali

It's a language based on Sanskrit. Its vocabulary is very rich, featuring different addressing words. There is a specific tune to this language, similar, almost, to Hindi. Sweet and rhythmic.

21 Sindhi

It is the world's only complete language. You can even pronounce all words of any language if you can speak Sindhi completely. It is also one of the oldest languages, especially in South Asia. One of the most hospitable languages around the world, just like its people.

22 Haryanvi
23 Santali
24 Angika

One of the sweetest languages that you will ever hear in India is Angika. Mostly originating in South Bihar, it is used in the Bhagalpur, Munger, and Banka regions of Bihar.

25 Bodo

Beautiful language, belonging to the Sino-Tibetan language family.
