4 Paul McCartney - The Beatles Sir James Paul McCartney (born 18 June 1942) is an English singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and composer. With John Lennon, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr, he gained worldwide fame with the rock band the Beatles, one of the most popular and influential groups in the history of pop and rock music. One of the most successful composers and performers of all time, he is known for his melodic approach to bass-playing, his versatile and wide tenor vocal range and his musical eclecticism, exploring styles ranging from pre-rock 'n' roll pop to classical and electronica. His songwriting partnership with John Lennon remains the most successful in history

I never considered John Lennon the leader of The Beatles, even if he is arguably the founder of the group (Paul and George were the first of the four to meet and play music together). Don't get me wrong, John was a great lyricist, and his collaborations with Paul are second to none, but Paul was the biggest musical contributor to the group, which is what hooks most listeners first. When the going got tough for the group, Paul was able to pull them together to do their best work, even if the other three bemoaned his actions as trying to be in control.

Either it was John Lennon or Paul McCartney the true leader of The Beatles. But even it was John Lennon he wasn't a good leader. That leaves Paul behind a great leader. He could compromise with his group-mates

Actually I added Paul McCartney/John Lennon. But admin only approved Paul McCartney.
