Top Ten Least Known Countries

The Top Ten
Nauru Nauru, officially the Republic of Nauru and formerly known as Pleasant Island, is an island country in Micronesia in the Central Pacific. It's the third smallest country in the world and the least visited country in the world as well.

Obviously very unknown country the country is the third smallest, second least populated, and fattest country.it also has no actual capital and is the least visited country due to it being very unknown

Should be known for being the fattest country in the world

I heard this name for the first time thanks to this list.

So much for an island in the Pacific made out of bird poop.

Kyrgyzstan Kyrgyzstan, officially the Kyrgyz Republic, formerly known as Kirghizia, is a landlocked country located in Central Asia.

Yes, so few people know the Central Asian countries. Some of the more nerdy ones like me ;) will know Kazakhstan, the economically best country there, and Turkmenistan because of their really insane rulers. Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan are forgotten a lot. Uzbekistan is known a lot because of world history though (Samarkand is located in it), and so that leaves us with these two. Some people on the internet even made a joke which referred to Kyrgyzstan as "WTFstan" to most people.

I knew for sure that: 1. It was part of the Soviet Union, 2. It's in Central Asia.
Not sure but maybe: 1. People are Muslims, 2. There are many mountains, 3. The country is kinda underdeveloped, mostly rural (sheeps? ).

This and Tajikistan are among the least known Asian countries

Their flag looks like a communist Xbox logo.

Timor-Leste East Timor, officially the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste, is a sovereign state in Maritime Southeast Asia. It comprises the eastern half of the island of Timor.

This will be on the top of list because I am from Asia and never heard of for at least 22years

This list is very good - most of the countries are really obscure.

I've never heard of anything like it.

A country seperated from Indonesia.

Bhutan Bhutan, officially the Kingdom of Bhutan, is a landlocked country in South Asia at the eastern end of the Himalayas.

Bhutan has the coolest flag ever. Look at the drawing! Dragon with feet with the powerful orb!

I know Bhutan. It's mostly buddhism in there.

Hands down one of the best flags and nature!

Cool flag and I know that this country is small and buddhist

Tuvalu Tuvalu, formerly known as the Ellice Islands, is a Polynesian island nation located in the Pacific Ocean, midway between Hawaii and Australia.

It's actually sinking right now, and I have only seen two documentaries about it while we have a hundred "New York Might Flood in 100 Years" documentaries.

Somebody good at geography like me even though I'm 9,could mix this up with Vanuatu because of the simalar names.

Unknown but its already sinking and if kept sinking then no one has literally heard of this small country

Niue

I didn't know that this is a state!

Well.. It isn't a country..

Tajikistan Tajikistan, officially the Republic of Tajikistan, is a mountainous, landlocked country in Central Asia with an estimated 8 million people in 2013, and an area of 143,100 km2.

I know it's in Central Asia and was part of the Soviet Union but nothing more.

Wow... I actually know ALL of the countries on this list!

Not as unknown as Kyrgyzistan due to Emomalii Rahmon but still very unknown

This should be number 1, it is the only I don‘t know on this TOP 10

Sao Tome and Principe

It should be telling that until this comment, this is the only country in the top 25 without any remarks posted. Sao Tome and Principe is very clearly the least known country.

If you knew what Sao Tome and Principe was before reading this list, you don't stop lying. I know people who have heard of NAURA and not STP

Comoros The Comoros, officially the Union of the Comoros, is a sovereign archipelago island nation in the Indian Ocean located at the northern end of the Mozambique Channel off the eastern coast of Africa between northeastern Mozambique and northwestern Madagascar.
Saint Kitts and Nevis The Federation of Saint Kitts and Nevis, also known as the Federation of Saint Christopher and Nevis, is a two-island country in the West Indies.
The Contenders
Equatorial Guinea Equatorial Guinea, officially the Republic of Equatorial Guinea, is a country located in Central Africa, with an area of 28,000 square kilometres.
Palau

Most of these no name countries have dope, origional, or uniquely tacky flags that grab your attention... this country didn't even try

Should have voted this one not Timor Leste. Have heard of that, Never ever heard of this country.

I've heard the name of this country before but don't even know where it is.

South Sudan South Sudan, officially the Republic of South Sudan, is a landlocked country in northeastern Africa that gained its independence from Sudan in 2011. Its current capital is Juba, which is also its largest city.

Last year I read an adventure fiction book - two Brits were looking for a buried treasure in Ethiopia and Sudan, and the civil war in South Sudan played an important role in this book.
So that's all I know - it's in northeastern Africa, close to Ethiopia. Underdeveloped and poor country.

Main reason that no one knows about South Sudan is because it became a country in 2012 and all the maps are still outdated. I guess that could work the other way around as well, but my television in America use said 'oh there is a new country in Africa' and nothing more

Its kinda famous other than less known but the reason people don't know this country is because 1.it's the newest country and un member as it gained independence from sudan in 2011. 2. some maps are outdated and still have south sudan in ''north'' sudan. 3. medias don't really report on the country but there's ongoing war there. It's a very poor, and underdeveloped country

Come on, a civil war is going on here and almost no media reports on it...

Central African Republic

Nobody in my school knew this country exists.

Suriname Suriname, officially known as the Republic of Suriname, is a sovereign state on the northeastern Atlantic coast of South America.

Guyana, Suriname and French Guyana are the forgotten countres of South America, in my opinion some of the best and most interesting! Especially this country!

This is the country without a doubt the best name... just kidding, but familiar.

Lesotho Lesotho, officially the Kingdom of Lesotho, is an enclaved, landlocked country in southern Africa completely surrounded by South Africa.
Kiribati

Not only a lot of people don't know what this country is but a lot of people also get the name wrong. Although it's spelled Kiribati it's actually pronounced Kiribas because in the country they speak a language called gilbertese which is a language where the letter ''S'' does not exist but the word ''ti'' is spelled as an ''S''. And since the word Kiribati is a gilbertes word and has ''ti'' at the end the name is pronounced Kiribas.

Not a lot of people know this so this is good.

Liechtenstein

A lot of people are actually familiar with this country.

I am moving to Liechtenstein in 2 weeks

Andorra Andorra, officially the Principality of Andorra, also called the Principality of the Valleys of Andorra, is a sovereign landlocked microstate in Southwestern Europe, located in the eastern Pyrenees mountains and bordered by Spain and France.

I always thought of Angola when I heard of it and never got to know of its existence

Yes, our neighbours aren't really well known

Turkmenistan Turkmenistan is a country in Central Asia, bordered by Kazakhstan to the northwest, Uzbekistan to the north and east, Afghanistan to the southeast, Iran to the south and southwest, and the Caspian Sea to the west.

Besides from Kazakhstan and maybe Uzbekistan, no one ever seems to know about the central Asian countries. I do,but I guess that's because I'm an Aspie :P

That flag is pretty~

Brunei Brunei, officially the Nation of Brunei, the Abode of Peace, is a sovereign state located on the north coast of the island of Borneo in Southeast Asia.

Brunei is undoubtedly the most unrecognised but yet richest country on Earth. People have never heard of this little Muslim nation because of it's geographic situation especially the recognition. I have visited Brunei, looking at the significance of the buildings which looks like a Utopia. Despite the enforcement of overkill Religious Values.

You insulted Zephyr the Steelix

Dominica Dominica, officially the Commonwealth of Dominica, is an island country in the Lesser Antilles region of the Caribbean Sea, south-southeast of Guadeloupe and northwest of Martinique.

I know all the countries, capitals and flags in the world. But if I start forgetting about some, I will definitely forget about this one. So obscure.

Alright, I know a lot of people have heard of the Dominican Republic, but have many of you guys ever heard of this country?

Guyana Guyana officially the Co-operative Republic of Guyana, is a sovereign state on the northern mainland of South America. Guyana is bordered by the Atlantic Ocean to the north, Brazil to the south and southwest, Suriname to the east, and Venezuela to the west. With 215,000 square kilometers (83,000 square ...read more.
