So there were six teams in the AFC (Bengals, Broncos, Chiefs, Jaguars, Jets, Titans) all vying for the final two playoff spots. While the Jets had no trouble securing a win over the Oakland Raiders, the Chiefs had to beat the Jaguars while hoping for a Titans loss to the Patriots, a Bengals loss to the Steelers, and a Broncos loss to the 49ers. The Titans loss to an already clinched Patriots teams while the Steelers upset the Bengals in overtime. Then, the Broncos were knocked off by the 49ers, a game that also ended in overtime and the Chiefs were in.

Having overcome a 14 game deficit to the Boston Red Sox, the Yankees maintained a one-game lead with seven games to play, the Yankees kept that lead with six wins. But they failed to defeat the Indians in the 162 game. Boston had won seven games and forced a one-game playoff. Yet, the Yankees would win the tiebreaker 5-4.
