How?

EvilAngel NOTE: Before reading this, don't think that I don't like Master Of Puppets because I do, it's a great powerful song. But...

How can Master Of Puppets beat One on the official list? I know there's only one percent of votes separating them, but one percent is a lot on a list with over 40000 votes and 360 remixes.when I first came on this site like half a decade ago at the time of me writing this, One was in first place and that was right. But since then Master has taken over... I'm sorry, but just because Master was on the previous album to One doesn't make it more of a classic. Just like Kill Em All being older than Ride The Lightning doesn't make it better, because Ride The Lightning is a huge step up. Master Of Puppets is a great song, it is really powerful, a very strong song, heavy in the way of instrumental parts and strong vocals, with the guitar being awesome. However, it CANNOT come close to One. Some things are opinion, but others are fact, and no matter which you prefer, there is no denying that One is the more skilful and gripping song.
One is beyond any other Metallica song. It starts off as almost like a lullaby metal song, and makes it's transition and transformation perfectly and evenly throughout the song, getting more and more intense as it goes, until suddenly those epic drums kick in and you have an absolutely headbanging thrash metal song. It makes its movement in perfect rhythm, and has fantastic vocals, brilliant lyrics, and the beginning gives you goosebumps, has WAY more melody than Master does. I'm sorry but Master is great but One is in a different realm. I reach out to fans who recognize this to put One in first place.

In ways One and MOP aren't much different. They both have their loud and quiet sections, fabulous solos, great riffing, great lyrics... I think MOP is number 1 due to thrash fans on this site who prefer the louder songs. Like me, but hey. They're both special in their own ways. - IronSabbathPriest

They're both great songs - bobbythebrony
