Green Bay Packers Preseason Game Analysis: Week 2- Packers vs. Steelers

PackFan2005 On August 16th, 2018, the Green Bay Packers faced the Pittsburgh Steelers at Lambeau Field in Week 2 of the 2018 NFL Preseason.

Score
Packers: 51
Steelers: 34

Before we analyze key players of the game, I have to say something.
Holy crap, that was an amazing game (unless you’re a Steelers fan). Heck, our defense played better than any of our regular season games in 2017. We had two pick sixes. Just wow.

Players That Succeeded

Reggie Gilbert (DE)

I mentioned him last week, but man, he was even better this week. He terrorized Mason Rudolph, gaining 2.5 sacks and stripping him of the ball at one point. Gilbert makes me believe in our pass rushers. His game may also put Khalil Mack trade rumors to rest.

DeShone Kizer (QB)

Brett Hundley played well this week, but Kizer takes the cake. He had a resurgence from a decent game against the Titans. He showcased his scrambling ability, passed better, and even threw a touchdown. His game makes the backup quarterback battle even more intense.

Josh Jackson (CB)

Man, what a game he had. He defended multiple passes early on, which led to a pick six in the second half. You could see Davante Adams’ surprise when Jackson scored, which shows how highly the others think of him. I really like what I’m seeing from the rookie.

Jake Kumerow (WR)

He’s back alright, and he played even better than last week. That 82 yard touchdown really helped his chances of making the 53 man roster. In fact, he needs to make it. A quality receiver that’s looking similar to Jordy Nelson.

Mason Crosby (K)

He had quite a game, making two 50+ yard field goals and made all of his extra points. A key contributor for this game.

Honorable Mentions

Aaron Rodgers (QB)
Tramon Williams (CB)
Jimmy Graham (TE)
Robert Tonyan (TE)

Players Who Struggled

Ty Montgomery (RB, KR)

Man, he had a rough night. That one fumble while returning a kick was similar to the one with Quinton Rollins last week against the Titans. The run game itself was dormant this week, and with Montgomery somewhat struggling, Green Bay could be in trouble once Aaron Jones’ suspension begins.

Kyle Murphy (O-Lineman)

Murphy didn’t play so well, which is concerning considering the lack of depth at it. He allowed a key sack, and blew it multiple times. He and Byron Bell need to step it up.

J’Mon Moore (WR)

Another lackluster game from the rookie, who dropped yet another potential big play. Could Moore miss the roster and get replaced by Jake Kumerow? The other two rookies are also playing better than Moore currently.

This week, there was improvement in some players, while others slacked off. After this big win, Green Bay now needs to get ready for next week’s matchup against the Oakland Raiders.
