The Top Ten
1 How to Train Your Dragon 2

This is DreamWorks’ best film! I didn't think that this needed a sequel because how the first one ended, but this was a big surprise! What suprises me the most about the film is that it actually demonstrates mature and serious things like issues, war, animal cruelty, and dictatorship. As it demonstrates those things perfectly! The friendship between Hiccup and Toothless is still there and stills feel very genuine, the flying scenes are awesome to see, the animation is phenomenal, and the action is entertaining! This has a lot more emotion than the first film. Stoick’s death scene was very touching! I even shedded a tear at that scene! I love how they introduced Hiccup’s mother, Valka, who spent 20 years rescuing dragons from Drago’s trap and bringing them to a dragon island. Drago is also an intimidating villian! You can see the look on his face that he looks like someone that you don't want to mess with! The score is also amazing! John Powell has done it again! I don't think ...more

I agree

2 How to Train Your Dragon

This is an excellent animated film! It’s based on a book that has the same premise. Everything about this film is so great! The thing that makes this film so special is its fearlessness and willingness to take big risks that do not fall into the cookie cutter norm that we come to expect in animated films! Because of this, it possesses a degree of unpredictability which proves to be original and much more enjoyable! The film has so many great, parallel moments! Like when Hiccup helps Toothless recover his wings when he ripped them near the beginning and the end, and Toothless helps Hiccup recover with his leg. The animation is breathtaking, the voice acting is terrific, and the action scenes are fun! The characters are fantastic and well developed! John Powell’s score is phenomenal! It even makes you feel for these mythical creatures as I felt for Toothless! In my opinion, this film reached the levels of Pixar! This film is so well acted, directed, and scored. Definitely one of the ...more

One of the most memorable Dreamworks movies

3 Kung Fu Panda 2

How did this not win an Oscar for Best Animated Feature? This was a much better film than Rango! Anyway, what’s so great about the sequel is that it expands upon the first film and dives into subjects like Po’s origins. The ending also teases the plot of the third film in a nice way. The fight scenes are exciting, fast paced, and still well choreographed, they’re also creative at times, like the first fight scene. Lord Shen is the best villian in the franchise! As his motivation is that he wants to destroy China by using a cannon. That raised the stakes even higher than before! His death is also pretty brutal, as a cannon falls on him, and he actually accepts his fate! Gary Oldman gave an excellent performance! The tone of this film is changed since it’s more mature, dark and serious. There’s also a lot of emotional moments, especially during Po’s origins. In my opinion, I actually felt like I was watching a Pixar film! Because this film is on the same levels as Pixar’s ...more

Third was better but I love this one as well

4 Kung Fu Panda

This was a huge surprise! How could a film called “Kung Fu Panda” be good? This film is a blast from beginning to end! The humor is hilarious, the voice acting is great, the story is engaging, and the characters are very likable! The fight scenes are well choreographed! Po is a fun, funny, nice, likable, cool and a relatable character! He’s an underdog kind of character. You know that he seems like an outcast that and is thought to never beat Kung Fu master. Everyone else doubts that a big, fat, giant panda who works at a noodle shop could ever be the chosen one called “The Dragon Warrior”. But at the end, he proves them all wrong and fulfills the prophecy. Tai Lung is an industrious villian! He wants to break out of prison and to get revenge on people who have wronged him! The final battle was also epic and pretty funny! The only problems I have is that the message feels familiar, and there are minor plot flaws. Kung Fu Panda is a fun, funny, enjoyable, and a great film ...more

Even better than the first sequel

5 The Prince of Egypt

This is DreamWorks’ first 2D animated film, and it was amazing! This is a perfect accurate portrayal of the biblical story of Moses and the Pharaoh! The animation and visuals are top notch! The characters and voice acting are spectacular and full of life! Tye songs are moving and catchy! My favorite song in the film is Playing With The Big Boys Now! I will never get that song out of my head! The pacing is perfect which everything flows freely and naturally! And the story is very engaging and I felt really bad for the two brothers with their conflict! The only problem with the film is that the film sometimes can go into the dark themes like genocide. Which can be sometimes difficult to watch. Overall, this was a great start for DreamWorks’ 2D animated films! If you’re looking for a film based on the Holy Bible story, this is the film for you! This is one of my favorite animated films of all time!

It's one of the darker Dreamworks movies as well

6 Shrek 2

This is the best example of an animated sequel that improves on the original. The first one was great, but it doesn't take that much advantage of its fairy tale satire as someone else may think. Everything about Shrek 2 is awesome! It takes what the first one did, and made it ten times better! It has jokes all over while also keeping a very good story. My favorite joke in the film is where a Shrek and Donkey pretend that they’re part of a union! I didn't get that joke before, but now I know what I meant! The love story between Shrek and Fiona is very believable! The animation is a step up from the first, the new characters were likable, the voice acting is excellent, and few of the pop culture references were well placed! The Fairy Godmother was a very intimidating antagonist and was way better than Farquaad in my opinion. My favorite part in this film is the final battle scene! That is one of the greatest action scenes ever made in an animated film! I still get goosebumps watching ...more

One of the first movies ever that I saw in my life (I think I saw Toy Story 2 before but still)

7 Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted

In my opinion, this is the best in the franchise. I enjoyed the first two films. But this one surpasses the first two by a mile! This picks up where the second film left off, with the gang still stuck in Africa, and tries to find a way to get back home until they crash land in Europe, and must work with a group full of circus animals to win their way back to New York and comes full circle. This is a very well thought out film with many laughs than the previous films. The voice acting is great once again, and I received more than I wanted more of in the second film. Sure, there are some cliches sprinkled throughout, but what makes them so clever is that they are almost always acknowledged by the dialogue. The animation is also crisper than the first two. The relationship between Alex and Gia actually feels like a boyfriend and girlfriend relationship! You can see that they fall in love with each other! The circus scenes are also really entertaining! Especially that London performance! ...more

To be honest I thought it was the worst of the trilogy

8 The Road to El Dorado

How does this have a 48% on Rotten Tomatoes? Are critics high? This is the most underrated DreamWorks film! I used to watch this countless times as a kid, and still do! Tulio and Miguel are fantastic protagonists. The musical numbers are really catchy! My favorite song is “Tough To Be a God”! The 2D animation is still stunning, the voice acting is great, and the action is fun! The humor is also really good as the jokes got a laugh out of me. There’s also a bit of swearing in here. There are a few times where Tulio says “hell”. But the swearing is not stuffed like Antz. The villian was also really terrifying as his transformation with the Jaguar was scary! Although, the story was pretty bland, and it was kind of predictable. I knew that Tzekel-Kan despite being terrifying, was gonna be the villian of the film. And the scene where Tulio and Miguel are gonna win that ball game. Overall, this is a really great film! I really wanted to see more adventures with these characters. ...more

Eh, I prefer Sinbad by a mile in my opinion. This one's a bit boring and slow. I mean I like the setting but that's it

9 Rise of the Guardians

I thought this film would suck since it didn't look that good as if it wasn't my cup of tea. But it turned out to be really great! I always call this The Avengers for little kids. So no one dies at the end. Anyways, what I mean by that is that it’s kinda cool to see these fictional characters team up with each other. The animation is beautiful of course, the characters are likable, and the story is intriguing. The voice acting is pretty good, especially Alec Baldwin as Santa Claus, who was awesome. Chris Pine does really well too, though his voice seems a bit too deep for a Jack Frost. I love Jack and I felt pretty bad for him. Jude Laws does well as Pitch Black. The comedy and drama are also well done. However, Pitch’s motivation is weak, and the storytelling is a bit choppy at points, but it’s not that bad. This is one of my favorites from the studio. I wished that a sequel would happen if it wasn't for the underperforming box office.

It's a bit overrated but I liked it

10 The Croods

I’m glad the sequel was back on the schedule! I was devastated when I heard the sequel was cancelled. But now I’m happy that the sequel is coming because this is a great film! It centers around a family of cavemen and they meet person named Guy. So Guy helps them survive this new world that they are experiencing since their home got destroyed. The producers did a great job on making up fictional prehistoric animals. It delivers a sweet message about families and how change can be a good thing. The voice acting is splendid with Emma Stone as the main role. The character designs look realistic. And the animation looks realistic! Although, the humor may be weak at times. And I didn't like the mother’s personality. I she was more outspoken like her daughter, she could’ve been a more good character. Overall, The Croods is a really playful and enjoyable film! I can't wait for the sequel! Hope it doesn't get cancelled again.
