Best SNL Cast Members Ever

I'll probably catch hell for some of the omissions here (especially the lack of women, which surprises even me).

The Top Ten
1 Chevy Chase

Say what you will about the guy, when he was funny, he was brilliantly funny. Yeah, he invariably played 'Chevy Chase', but for many years, that meant guaranteed laughs.

2 Eddie Murphy Edward Regan "Eddie" Murphy is an American comedian, actor, writer, singer, and producer. Murphy was a regular cast member on Saturday Night Live from 1980 to 1984.

Gumby, Mr. Robinson, Buh-Weet, James Brown's hot tub, etc. The guy was a comic genius and breakout star.

3 Dan Aykroyd Daniel Edward "Dan" Aykroyd is a Canadian-American actor, comedian, musician, businessman and filmmaker. He was an original member of the "Not Ready for Prime Time Players" on Saturday Night Live.

Probably one of the more consistently funny cast members ever. The Phil Hartman or Darrell Hammond of his era on the show.

4 Bill Murray William James "Bill" Murray is an American actor, comedian, and writer. He first gained exposure on Saturday Night Live, for which he earned his first Emmy Award and later went on to star in comedy films, including Meatballs, Caddyshack, Stripes, Tootsie, Ghostbusters, Ghostbusters II, Scrooged, What About Bob?

I'd almost put him on here just for the Star Wars lounge singer bit, but he had a lot more funny moments as well.

5 Phil Hartman Philip Edward "Phil" Hartman was a Canadian-American actor, voice actor, comedian, screenwriter, and graphic artist.

A great straight man and solid impressionist. He is very much missed on The Simpsons, too.

6 Tracy Morgan

One of those people I laugh just looking at them. It's the same idiot schtick in every sketch...but it's hilarious. Word up.

7 Norm MacDonald Norman Gene Macdonald[ (October 17, 1959 – September 14, 2021) was a Canadian stand-up comedian, writer, and actor known for his deadpan style.

Early in his career, he wrote for the sitcom Roseanne and made guest appearances on shows such as The Drew Carey Show and NewsRadio. Macdonald was then a cast member on Saturday Night Live (SNL) for five years, including anchoring the Weekend Update segment for three seasons. After leaving SNL, he starred in the 1998 film Dirty Work and in his own sitcom, The Norm Show, from 1999 to 2001. ...read more.

Admittedly Burt Reynolds was the only remotely funny character/impression he did, but he was the best Weekend Update host to date. He used to look like he was blaming YOU if you didn't laugh at the punchline (which was almost always something about OJ Simpson).

8 Jon Lovitz

The fact that he wasn't as naturally talented as some of his other castmates somehow made him even funnier.

9 Billy Crystal

When Harry Met Sally aside, he hasn't been as funny as this since. Might even be a bit underrated by some.

10 Leslie Jones

Possibly a controversial choice (the other name I was tossing around was the very reliable Cecily Strong), to me she's the female Tracy Morgan. I laugh before she even says anything sometimes. I especially love her interruptions on Weekend Update.
