She's not well known outside of German speaking countries, but she is huge there so I guess she counts as mainstream. She has a great voice ranging from soft and vulnerable singing to extreme belting. Can be heard best on ballads such as "Living to Love You" and "From Sarah With Love". It makes up for the fact that she hardly writes anything herself, but she is simply that good of a singer. - Martin_Canine

Her singing techniques aren't the best and she isn't the best in this list either, but, her vocals are really unique, you could guess her voice immediately, her music also is really unique, which fits perfectly her voice, I don't think anyone else can pull off her concept like she does.

Austrian singer Conchita Wurst is biologically male... and her voice sounds entirely female, yet she can sound vulnerable as well as belt powerfully. "Rise Like a Phoenix" or "Heroes" show the great voice.
But Tom Neuwirth, the man behind Conchita, plans on retiring his much more famous female stage persona and wants to continue singing as himself. I wonder how that will work. The voice is so feminine it wouldn't fit more "male" songs. - Martin_Canine

Schlager is an extremely successful genre in German speaking countries, but it's a guilty pleasure genre no one takes seriously and where most people are ashamed of if they like it, with all its extremely simple melodies and feel good lyrics about love. Still, Helene Fischer, despite being the most schlager-ish of all and with mediocre songs throughout, has an excellent voice and could easily be the lead singer of a more ambitious band. You can't hear it on her albums, but on her live performances (there is one where she sings "Sexbomb" in duet with Tom Jones and it simply rocked. You wouldn't believe you can get such performances from this pop song). - Martin_Canine
