The Top Ten

1 Game is insanely easy and is way too generous with health and ammo upgrades

2 Is sequence-breakable and cheatable in far too many different ways for its own good, most notably through wall-jumping
3 Super missiles, beam stacking and especially armor upgrades completely break the game
4 Final boss fight and escape sequence are both way too heavily scripted and unchallenging
5 Movement and especially jumping controls are terrible compared to its 2D successors
6 All of the non-Ridley bosses are such a joke that they might as well just be larger versions of the standard enemies
7 X-ray visor is useless
8 If you know how to wall-jump but not how to insta-kill Draygon, then the grapple beam's only justified purpose for most of the game is to farm pickups from enemies
9 The space pirates are supposed to be smart in this game, yet they have some of the dumbest and most useless AI to ever grace video games
10 Lower Brinstar theme is used for way too small of an area

The Contenders

11 Lack of Hard Mode
12 Space Jump controls horridly
13 Kraid's larger size actually just makes him that much EASIER than his original NES Metroid counterpart
14 Spikes become borderline meaningless by the time Samus gets the Varia Suit, let alone Gravity
15 Spazer is able to randomly phase through walls for no apparent reason
16 X-Ray Visor Plasma Beam Damage Multiplier Glitch
17 The item-collecting fanfare lasts a full seven seconds, is unskippable, and also causes the local area's music to restart
18 Shinesparking drains energy
19 Charge Beam also breaks the game
20 Those pointless Reserve Tanks
21 Archaic map system
22 Upper Norfair and Wrecked Ship themes are incredibly lame compared to the rest of the soundtrack
23 Maridia is deliberately laid out in the most horrendously annoying way possible
24 Spoon-feeds all of the abilities to you on a silver platter rather than actually making you earn them for real
25 Spring Ball is also reduced into becoming a mere gimmick item
26 Even Tourian, of all areas, is actually easier than it was in the first game
27 Game is way too short
28 You never get to experience Maridia as an actual water level, nor Norfair as a timed one
29 Intro cutscene is unskippable
30 Default controls are badly set up
31 Game is overly reliant on its sheer graphical and atmospheric beauty to make up for its gameplay shortcomings
32 The classic technicolor bubble tiles are only brought back in ONE specific room of Norfair
33 The way that the layout of the areas (especially Brinstar) has changed between the original and Super makes very little sense at best
34 Secrets are way too easy to find, the puzzles way too easy to solve
35 Zebetite-breaking segment in Mother Brain's hallway at the end of Tourian can actually cause an end-game permastuck if you don't have enough missiles for it

36 Ice and Plasma Beams both completely break the game
