Best Mario Party 8 Minigames

The Top Ten
1 Breakneck Building

This is one of the more complex and refined minigames in the Mario Party series overall, and not just the best minigame in Mario Party 8. Why? Because you do not only one, but THREE different things in this minigame, all related to building. First you cut a log in half, then hammer two nails into wood, and then you paint a piece of wood. The fact that this minigame is so detailed puts it at the #1 spot, and it's my favourite minigame in Mario Party 8 as a result.

2 Speedy Graffiti

In the game's first minigame, you must paint the outlines of shapes on rocks that fall down do get points, and the more points the better. I actually really like it, as I like shapes and colours, but one problem is that it's not very responsive. By that I mean that even if you do paint the outliers..., if you're not steady enough it won't register. It's not Trace Cadets-level of unresponsive, but still a bit disappointing. But I like it!

3 At the Chomp Wash
4 Treacherous Tightrope

This is by far the most intense minigame in the game, as you're literally balancing on a tightrope high above cliffs and must get to the other side, but one blow of wind can literally end your character up dead. The fact that we're so high up in the sky is what makes this really intense, alongside the music. Whlie it uses motion controls, this is one of the more responsive ones, and I like that. Overall I really like this minigame.

This game is so hard!

5 King of the Thrill

Overall, Mario Party 8 had some of the best 2 vs. 2 minigames of all time in my opinion. Something about them was just really unique and interesting. King of the Thrill is my favourite of these, where you stand on top of a pillar and must knock the other player off the cliff, while on the other cliff, two other players do that to. If the winners on both sides don't belong to the same team, they'll fight agianst each other on a bigger pillar, to see who's the real winner. It's just super exhilerating, and the atmosphere is really grim and fits the minigame well.

6 Boo-ting Gallery

Honestly this minigame was Specter Inspector done right in a way. It's a 2 vs. 2 minigame where you must get into a haunted house by shooting all of the red boos guarding the castle, and in the end you face off agianst a giant boss. You use motion controls but it's much easier than in the aforementioned minigame and it's actually rather creepy but fun.

7 Sick and Twisted

Here's the poorer platformer-minigame in the game, being much worse than the better counterpart Rotation Station (that one was awesome). Here you just jump from spinning platform to spinning platform while avoiding bullet bills. It's not that it's bad, I actually enjoy it and it's one of the few minigames in the game without motion controls..., but compared to the other great minigames this one fall a bit flat.

8 Wing and a Scare

Apart from having the best soundtrack in the game shared with Cardiators, Rotation Station, You're the Bob-Omb, Surf's Way Up, Eyebrawl, Cut from the Team, Scooter Pursuit..., this one isn't nearly as great I'd say. Again I like it thanks to the music but the concept is a little simple. You fly an airplane through holes in the wall by tilting it. If you play with actual humans this is one of the most common minigames to end up in a draw but not in an as fun way as in say You're the Bob-Omb. But meh it's pretty cool.

9 Rotation Station

You know I love platformer minigames, and Rotation Station has got to be the absolute best of these, because of how different it is from the others. As a duel minigame you must climb to the top of the tower first, but the course layout is laid in a way so that you can't see where you're going at all times. So how you fix that? Well how about ROTATING THE PERSPECTIVE? This is such a genius idea that I'm surprised that this is the only type of level to ever do this, and it does motion controls justice after nearly every other minigame has poor motion controls.

10 Specter Inspector

This one I'm slightly indifferent towards, mostly because it's very unique from other minigames in its gameplay, but it also has some of the most frustrating motion controls. You must find three mario enemies hiding somewhere in a big haunted house, and it's cool although RNG, but the problem is how you control. You use the D-Pad to move but NOT sideways, and in order to show light on something to see if someone's there, you need to be super close and aim super precisely. It's disappointing really because the concept is pretty neat!

The Contenders
11 Cardiators

See? This is how you make a luck-based minigame actually good! It's probably the best RNG minigame of all time, and possibly one of my favourite minigames of all time. It's a duel minigame where you take turns picking up cards. Depending on the number of the card, the opposing player will lose that many hit points because the animal on the card attacked him. Poor explaination, but it's really exhilerating. On top of that, it has the perfect music to accompany it, which makes you feel both tense and excited. So this is by far one of the best minigames in the game.

How could you not? It's rpg!

12 You're the Bob-Omb

And here is another RNG-styled minigame which is actually pretty great! In this duel minigame (this game had a lot of good duel minigames, gotta say), each player gets a Big Bob-Omb, and you must blow up your opponents Bob-Omb by picking a switch, but it's random which is the correct one. It's super exhilerating, especially thanks to the music which also plays in Cardiators and Rotation Station. Because you both press a switch at the same time, this is also one of the most common minigames for a Tie to take place, either because you blew up each others bombs at the same time, or you all picked all of the switches except the correct one. The latter is a rare occurence though which has only once happened me.

13 Alpine Assault

Another minigame which handles motion controls correctly. This one is similar to Snow Ride from Mario Party 7, where you must get to the end of a snowboard track, but I like this one far more, because it's easier to not crash into something, plus the motion controls were actually that good. I forgot to mention that you can also make tricks off ramps by pressing A or B, and it's quite the satisfying experience. Overall I can't see why anyone wouldn't like this minigame.

14 Surf's Way Up

And here's another minigame which handles motion controls pretty well. Not only that, it has really satisfying sound effects..., basically you're flying on hover-boards in space and must pop balloons with many points, but don't pop the Bowser ones or yolose everything. It's basically the same thing as Target Tag but I prefer this one thanks to the satisfying sound effects when crashing into balloons, and the more interesting setting plus music (shared with Cardiators, Rotation Station and You're the Bob-Omb). So yeah I like this one too...

15 Mario Matrix

This is definitely one of the more interesting minigames as well in the Mario Party series. You get sent into a computer, literally, and have to tap as many glowing hexagons as possible. Sometimes it's a little hard to nab the hexagons, but nevertheless it's a cool idea and I really appreciate this minigame as a result.

16 Lean Mean Ravine

A 2 vs. 2 racing minigame..., yeah that's a thing. Each team takes control of a hovercraft and must race to the finish. The way steering works is pretty interesting, as if you both swing at one direction, the hovercraft will turn sharper and if not, well that's self-explainatory. It's really intereting and it's for sure one of my honorable mentions.

17 Rowed to Victory

Originally I had put this as the #1 worst Mario Party 8 minigame of all time, because I despises it as a kid not knowing what to do. But having replayed it now, I actually kinda love it. It's definitely one of the shorter minigames, but it's still really fun, as you must row into the centre of a lake, and as a 2 vs. 2 minigame, one player takes one side. The controls are really responsive in this one and it kinda inspired the River Survival mode in Super Mario Party. Overall..., yeah I really like this minigame.

18 Loco Motives

Your eye needs to be at three places at once in this minigame, making it one of the most chaotic minigames of all time, kinda similar to Dash and Dine in Super Mario Party. This one has trains..., I like trains. And they are loco-motives on a train circuit, and you must prevent them from blowing up balloons on the track by pressing them so they go the other way, but there's a balloon there too. That's what I mean by chaotic and the first player to pop 3 balloons is the loser. Such an interesting and cool minigame...

19 Shake It Up
20 Stampede
21 Lob to Rob
22 Cosmic Slalom

Here is definitely one of the cooler racing-styled minigames in Mario Party overall. I've always just kinda had a soft spot for this minigame, even though Moped Mayhem and Canyon Cruisers are definitely better. What sets this one apart is that it's set in space..., and you're on these mini-rockets shooting through tubes and you must be the first to cross the finish line. Unfortunately it uses motion controls and it's hard to avoid all of the obdtacles which slow you down, but it's compensated by the fact that you get three speed boosts which makes you not only faster for a period of time, but it also obliterates obstacles! It's one of the most satisfying moments in any Mario Party minigame and thus I really like it!
