DCfnaf Movie Reviews: Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2

DCfnaf WARNING: Some viewers may disagree with this review. If you do, PLEASE respect my opinion and let me know NICELY why you have yours. Thank you.

Read the title of the movie I'm covering today. That should pretty much tell you everything you need to know. Wait...so you want me to go in depth with this review like I usually do? Well, I'd be delighted to. It won't hurt to put LOADS of effort into this, especially since it's a Marvel movie and I LOVE reviewing Marvel movies.

The first Guardians of the Galaxy movie was released in 2014 and it was absolutely brilliant. The humor was a great highlight, the characters were all well done, the action was entertaining, and the story was great too. It's now 2017 and the second film has finally been released it? Now you're probably wondering: Is it as good as the first? Well, I'm so glad you asked.

Plot Synopsis

The sequel of Guardians of the Galaxy focuses on several different little storylines. The main story that everyone will care about the most is Peter Quill and the rest of the guardians trying to get along and unraveling the mystery behind Peter's parentage. There is also a story with Gamora and Nebula, a story with Rocket Raccoon, Yondu, and the Ravagers, and a story with Ayesha and her golden subjects, the Sovereign. Honestly, this feels like a little *too* much and I feel like they could've just focused on Peter's parentage the most. The Ravagers could've had a little less screen time, but they were okay. Taserface (that name tho) was a little ridiculous and his entire ship of Ravagers was very boring. Ayesha and the Sovereign were a waste of time though and I honestly couldn't care less about them. I mean...Ayesha was such a lame character in the movie. Come on, you want to KILL the guardians because they...GASP...STOLE YOUR BATTERIES!!! *rolls eyes*. After that, they became plot convenience when they were trying to defeat the main antagonist. If they just stuck with the main story and the Gamora VS Nebula story, I think the movie would've been better.

Characters

It definitely makes the movie very enjoyable when you know that one of your favorite characters in the Marvel Universe is in the movie. Peter Quill/Star Lord has become one of my favorite characters, and that's ultimately because he's a space Deadpool/Spider-Man. He is sarcastic, really funny, has immense character development, and is a badass in combat. Rocket Raccoon was also a really good character, he was the most sarcastic and witty out of the group like in the last movie. Gamora and her evil sister, Nebula, were cool as usual and had a perfect relationship. Drax was funnier than he was in the last movie, but he was still pretty useless to me because his humor was pretty lame. Yondu (Star Lord's adopted father) was also much better here than he was last time. Then there's Baby Groot...who is clearly there to sell merchandise. One of the latest commercials I saw was a dancing Baby Groot, so that confirms it. As for the new characters, we get Star Lord's father, Ego, who makes an appearance with his assistant, Mantis. I won't go too deep with Ego in fear of spoilers, but I will tell you that the relationship between him and Peter was perfect. Let's also talk about Mantis. Mantis was a guardian in the comics and she was an avenger, so its cool that they threw her in. For some reason, she didn't shoot green mist out of her hands, but it's fine.

Villains such as...um...Taserface make appearances too. God, his name is stupid, but that's made fun of so it's perfectly fine, and he honestly wasn't very interesting and he existed to have a stupid name nd make himself a simple joke villain. Ayesha and her Sovereign also make appearances in the movie as antagonists and, again, I thought they were incredibly stupid. Seriously, they want to kill the Guardians of the Galaxy just because Rocket stole their batteries? Like come on, I get they're trying to put Adam Warlock into the films, but how lame can you get, especially since they saved their lives? The main villain of the movie is a significant part of the story so I'm not going to go in depth, but this villain is one of the best villains Marvel has filmed along with Thanos and Loki.

The relationships between Peter and Ego, Rocket and Yondu, Drax and Mantis, as well as Gamora and Nebula were all well done.

(Sorry for going nuts with the characters. I'm a huge Marvel fan so I went nuts with the descriptions. Expect that when Spider-Man Homecoming and Thor: Raganrok come out.)

Humor

Humor is subjective, you may find it funny, but I may not. This humor was great, but not as good as the first movie. It offered hit or miss jokes instead of fantastic ones. This movie is a PG-13 film so there's no purpose in trying to shove toilet humor onto Drax just to make kids laugh. Kids shouldn't even be the target audience in the theater to begin with, so just because children are watching doesn't mean you have to change your humor. Another problem with the humor is that's it's overused. What made the first movie much better is that the story and the humor were balanced. This movie puts the humor over the story, which just doesn't work for Marvel. That's why Captain America: Civil War was pretty good, Why Doctor Strange was pretty good, etc. Lighten up on the humor and focus more on the storytelling.

Visuals

The movie also looks very pleasing on the eye. Movies that generally involve outer space have this unique visual style where the Planets burst beautiful lights and colors and the Stars pop out at the screen. It kind of reminds me of the Magic Kingdom in Disney World at night. It's simply beautiful to look at and you will barely look away from the screen due to boredom. Ego's Planet is beautiful and the cosmic portal that the beast at the beginning comes out of is so cool-looking.

Final Thoughts/Recommendation

This movie is definitely not better than the first one. The story is packed and the humor is hit or miss, but nonetheless, it's definitely recommendable and it's worth your time. I mean...Marvel barely has any bad movies. Iron Man 3 was a disappointment and all, but they're usually pretty great with their films. Obviously this is no exception. The movie offers characters that you will love, dazzling visuals, and very entertaining action. Plus...Star-Lord. You can't go wrong with Star-Lord. Taking children to see this is absolutely no issue, I know it's rated PG-13 but honestly the humor seems to be leaning towards young children every now and then so it doesn't even matter. This is the movie to watch if you are a fan of the series like me or if you simply love badass Superhero comedies...like me. You should definitely see this movie.

8 -- Great (Despite the fact that the sequel doesn't top the original, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is an impressive effort with a few noticeable problems like the packed story and immature humor holding it back. It may not astound EVERYONE, but is worth your time and cash.)

Another great movie review. I remember the first movie coming out in 2014, and I thought it looked lame. But then, I discovered it was the opposite. The sequel isn't as good as the original, but its still pretty good. - visitor

I like the part where - LarrytheFairy

I also love that developed uninteresting characters like Yondu and Nebula or at least they were in the first but in this one they were amazing characters - visitor

I definitely agree with that, they developed Yondu and Nebula a lot and that was smart. - DCfnaf

That did not need to develop the other characters as well. They try to give every character a purpose. Not the the sake of being a villain cough Commander Timberius Rocke. I actually thought it was an improvement as well. But I do think The Winter Soldier is the best of the MCU. - visitor

My favorite character in the MCU...that's a tough one since General Ross DID appear in the Civil War movie, but not as Red Hulk...Star Lord and Spidey are two of my favorites so far... - DCfnaf

I like The Winter Soldier - visitor

Oh I meant movie - visitor

Yondu is my favorite character in this movie. He even had the best line in the movie. - MegaSoulhero

Star Lord is just one of my favorite characters in Marvel, but they nailed Yondu this time, last time he was not interesting. - DCfnaf
