Most melodic death metal bands hail from Sweden. Not all of them though, some of them are from the U.K.
The Top Ten

2 Dark Tranquility

Er... Is there any other successful melodic death metal band than Carcass?

Not herd this band so much honestly, but I will!

3 Soilwork Soilwork is a Swedish melodic death metal band from Helsingborg. They are signed to Nuclear Blast. Formed in late 1995 by Björn Strid and Peter Wichers, originally under the name Inferior Breed, the band changed their name in late 1996 to Soilwork.

The first 3 albums were quite decent, not overwhelming but decent. With "A Predator's Portrait" and "Natural Born Chaos" they changed their sound into less heavy music. More focus on clean vocals, more Keyboards, Power Metal-esque riffs. While "A Predator's Portrait" was good and "Natural Born Chaos" was still somehow "okay" in my opinion, after that they changed into some kind of Pop-Metal band.

So in conclusion: Their earlier work was good, but nothing special, and their later work is a mixture of Pop and Metal. I don't think they should be in Top 10.

Nothing special to me.

4 Amon Amarth Amon Amarth is a Swedish melodic death metal band from Tumba, formed in 1992. The band takes its name from the Sindarin name of Mount Doom.

Never was a fan of melo-death. It always seemed too watered down and not very aggresive. Although these guys are an exception.

Here we go serious good.

Should be number 1

5 Scar Symmetry Scar Symmetry is a Swedish metal band from Avesta in Dalarna County, Sweden, formed in 2004. The band has released six albums, with seven released singles.

There is a strong hype about this band I do not understand. "Pitch Black Progress" and "Holographic Universe" were okay I guess, but still too much pop-like Choruses for me..

Decent I guess

6 At The Gates At the Gates is a Swedish melodic death metal band from Gothenburg, and a major progenitor of the Gothenburg sound.

Slaughter Of The Souls is a classic.
