Best Melodic Death Metal Vocalists

Melodic death metal is a side genre of death metal it is actually called "Gothenburg metal" but melodic death metal is the best title for it...

So there won't be vocalists of bands like Cannibal Corpse, Death...

The Top Ten

Johan Hegg (Amon Amarth) Johan Hegg, born in 1973 in Stockholm, Sweden, is the singer of melodic death metal band Amon Amarth. He joined the band in 1991.

Nobody can deny his amazing vocals his voice is very powerful and amon amarth is one of the best bands that melodic death metal will ever see with powerful guitars and drums
Hear Cry Of The Blackbirds, Twillight Of A Thunder God, Guardians Of Asgard, The Pursuit of Vikings..
- nooreldeen

You see this guy isn't growling, that's just his extremely viking voice!

Amazing vocals! His voice fits perfectly with their music. - RogerMcBaloney

Barely any technique, but sick voice. His high growls are unique

Alexi Laiho (Children of Bodom) Alexi "Wildchild" Laiho is a Finnish guitarist, composer, and vocalist. He is best known as the lead guitarist, lead vocalist and founding member of the melodic death metal band Children of Bodom, and is also the guitarist for Sinergy, The Local Band and Kylähullut.

Master of guitar but mediocre vocalist and composer. His vocals are not very powerful especially higher screams and do not sound demonic and hellish as they should.

Alexi sings what a non metal fan will understand, that's why he is the Best metal vocalist to me in the Best modern metal band. Gush Alexi your vocal wets my ears..

He honestly shouldn't be number 1.

He is just pure genius. Face it.

Mikael Stanne (Dark Tranquillty) Bengt Mikael Stanne is the vocalist and one of the lyricists for the Swedish melodic death metal band, Dark Tranquillity and the ex-vocalist for Swedish power metal band HammerFall.

He got very amazing growling voice and a singing melodic vocals
What I like in his style his melodic switches from a growling voice to an angel voice..
Hear Terminus, Misery's Crown, Uniformity, The Mundane and the Magic, What Only You Know - nooreldeen

So much better then Laiho. Growls are amazing and SO MELODIC and you can actually understand his lyrics unlike a lot of other metal vocalists

He may not have the best harsh vocals, but his clean vocals are probably the best and most melodic. Just listen to songs like Misery's Crown and Ether Novas.

This seems to be already on this list... can someone delete this entry? - Lemoon

Anders Fridén (In Flames) Anders Fridén is the vocalist/lyricist of the Swedish metal band In Flames. Fridén was also the vocalist of Passenger, a side project.

On his first couple of albums with In Flames, he sounded great, but on the later albums, not so much. His growl is a bit too screechy for my taste, and his cleans are a bit obnoxious. - AngryByrd

He's not that much of a vocalist, but has the perfect fry screaming voice.

The growls in f(r)iend when Anders played it live were epic!

What he must be the top1 not that from amon amarth frontman

Björn "Speed" Strid (Soilwork)

Alexis? Seriously? His range sucks compared to Speed. Oh yeah, he doesn't sing either. Speed is good at everything.

One of the outright best vocalists in the world. Ridiculous range, fantastic voice, fantastic screams as well as cleans.

Easily the most versatile melodic metal vocalist in the world, he should be #1 on this list without a doubt.

Bjorn is the best vocal singer in the world and should be #1 in this list.

Niilo Sevänen (Insomnium)

His voice is so powerful and intense, I thought that he added lots of effects in the studio recordings to make it sound that good, but after hearing him live, I can say that he sounds just as powerful live.

Very amazing vocalist really his growly voice is very awesome and powerful sounds like a pure death metal
And his melodic voice is so awesome..
Hear Mortal Share, Unsung, Weather The Storm, Through The Shadows, Regain The Fire, One For Sorrow, Down With The Sun.. And you will know that this vocalist is very awesome - nooreldeen

His voice I powerful

Alissa White (Arch Enemy)

She's awesome in Arch Enemy and the Agonist. Plus, it's Alissa White-Gluz

She is so damn hot!

Jeff Walker (Carcass) Jeffrey Walker is a bass guitarist and vocalist from Windle, St Helens, UK. He is best known for his work with death metal band Carcass for which he is also the main lyricist.
Pekka Kokko (Kalmah)

Has the most brutal voice in melodic death metal, listen to Defeat and other songs on the Black Waltz.
Alexi maybe a great guitarist but he's definitely not a death metal vocalist.

From high pitch screams to brutal low growls, this man can do it all. Listen to the album "they will return" and then "12 gauge" and then feel the difference.

The best vocals in the genre.

Very awesome vocalist really I love his voice it is very amazing voice(for me the best voice in melodic death metal) with songs like Hades, Heroes To Us, Withering Away, Alteration, Seventh Swamphony,Moon Of My Nights - nooreldeen

Trevor Strnad (The Black Dahlia Murder) Trevor Strnad is an American singer and musician mostly known as the lead vocalist and frontman of The Black Dahlia Murder.

I haven't found a second vocalist with the same range and diverse sound as Trevor. If someone did, please send it to me.

You should stop what you're doing and listen to this band right now.

Trevor has an amazing voice. He can do high screams and traditional growls. Trevor is awesome, BDM is awesome.

The Contenders

Mikael Åkerfeldt (Opeth) Lars Mikael Åkerfeldt is a Swedish musician, prominently known as the lead vocalist, guitarist, and primary songwriter of progressive death metal band Opeth, as well as being the former vocalist of death metal supergroup Bloodbath for three albums up until 2012. more.

Opeth is a Technical Death Metal band genius, not Melodic Death Metal. - GREYBOYY

Progressive death metal in Opeth and just death metal in Bloodbath.

Think about it this way: Opeth mixes death metal with melody, therefore, they are a melodic death metal band. It's that simple. - AngryByrd

People saying "Eww that's not Melodic Death Metal its Progressive Death Metal" really should listen to Opeth first..
While listening you clearly hear euphonious melodies all over their music. The right genre name would be "Progressive Melodic Death Metal", but since that name is pretty long and "Melodic" is a vague description for music, many leave this out. PURE "Progressive Death Metal" without beeing too melodic are played by Death or Horrendous. - Lemoon

He's not melodic DM - Metal_Treasure

Peter Tägtgren (Hypocrisy) Alf Peter Tägtgren is a Swedish musician, multi-instrumentalist and producer. He is the founder, main songwriter, lead vocalist, and guitarist of the death metal band Hypocrisy as well as the industrial metal band PAIN in which he is the only member.

Very good range from low growls to high shrieks and ability to switch between different registers also good clean singing. All his vocals sound really hellish and demonic.

He's very good - Metal_Treasure

Christian Älvestam (Scar Symmetry, Solution .45)

Has amazing growls as well as pretty good clean vocals

Okay... I officially hate this list. HOW IS Christian ÄLVESTAM NOT AT THE VERY LEAST NUMBER 2!? - AngryByrd

Angela Gossow (Arch Enemy) Angela Nathalie Gossow is a German vocalist, best known as the former lead vocalist for the Swedish melodic death metal band Arch Enemy.

Seems to be one of the few female metal singers who could make awesome music without sex appeal. Pure talent. Arch Enemy is so much more than having an attractive woman singing, that goes for both Angela and Alissa (though I prefer Angela, she has a better growl). - ThatStrangeKid42

She's hot, and a badass singer!

Ryan Clark (Demon Hunter)

Great with clean and harsh vocals. lyrics are deep and emotional.

Tomas Lindberg (At the Gates)

Tomas Lindberg is a god of Gothenburg Sound!

Peter Tägtgren 9,80 - Mikael Stanne 9,90... - Tomas Lindberg 11,0

George Kosmas (Be'Lakor)

His voice might not be as powerful as johan hegg or mikail stanne, but it fits perfectly with the band. one of the best melodeath vocals for sure

After Niilo Sevanen...George is the new rebirth of melodeath that thrived on 90s...and material wise be lakor is fantastic...

Petri Lindroos (Norther) Petri Lindroos is a melodic death/folk metal guitarist and vocalist. He is currently the lead vocalist in Ensiferum and, prior to this, was a founder and lead vocalist for Norther.

Alexi and Him are the very best of Melodic Death

14? Lol he deserves to be in second position right after Alexi laiho :/

Seiji Kakuzaki (Intestine Baalism)
Brendon Small (Dethklok) Brendon Small is an American producer, writer, animator, stand-up comedian, voice actor, and musician.

He is genius vocalist, Actor. And the idea of virtual band is very sucessful idea and the stories that he sing about is very exciting.. Hear murmaider, Murmaider II (The Water God), Thunderhorse, Bloodlines, I Ejacute Fire, Awaken - nooreldeen

He's not melodic DM, guys - Metal_Treasure

He's not melodic DM - Metal_Treasure

Matte Andersson (Godgory)
Sebastien Pierre (Enshine)

Personally one of the most high powered vocal commander, Seb has a powerful low and flowing growl that just makes you want to lock him on replay for all eternity.

Tanvir Faisal (Hallucination)

One of the best melodic death metal vocal of Bangladesh

Versatile growl vocals and clean vocals

Love his voice xoxo

Muhammed Suicméz (Necrophagist)

He's great but he's technical DM, not melodic DM. - Metal_Treasure
