Top 10 Most Memorable Beauty and the Beast Characters

Beauty and the Beast is easily the best Disney film from the Disney Renaissance. And of course it has some very great and memorable characters.
The Top Ten
1 Gaston Gaston is a fictional character who appears in Walt Disney Pictures' 30th animated feature film Beauty and the Beast.

He's the winner of the No Belle Prize.

This guy’s an excellent villain. Even though his motivation is kinda weak. All he wants to do is marry Belle and he goes as far as getting her father locked up. Plus, there are tons of girls in that little town. If one girl doesn’t like you, then move on. Blackmailing a girl isn’t the best way to get her to go out with you. I’ve tried. Still, Gaston is a very memorable character because of how egotistical he is. The way he acts, the way he talks, and his overall personality make it hard for me to hate him as a character. He’s pretty much a stereotypical tough man who thinks he’s better than everyone else. It works here because the movie portrays this as a bad thing. He’s not the character we want to root for. From the beginning, we already know he’s the villain. Despite the characters not knowing that he’s a bad guy, except maybe Belle, the audience knows. I like how they’re not trying to hide it. Considering these days Disney only relies on surprising the audience ...more

2 Beast

The Beast aka Prince Adam is Belle’s love interest. He starts out very grumpy and angry, but he eventually becomes a very kind and caring character. After time goes by, he falls in love with Belle. He even makes her feel at home in the castle. He even gives her a library because he has been listening to what interests her. They ruined this in the live action film where he just gave her the library because he wasn’t using it for anything! It just showed that he didn’t care much about her! Also, I really feel the connection between him and Belle in the animated film. I felt no connection between them in the live action film. One of my favorite scenes in this movie is when Belle leaves and Beast let’s out a powerful roar. It shows how much he is hurting emotionally. Makes it very impactful. Beast is a very developed character. He went from hating everything to finding true love. He’s one of the reasons why this is an excellent love story.

3 Lumiere

Why is Lumiere the only character with a French accent in a movie that takes place in France? I guess that’s one of the reasons why I think he is very unforgettable. He’s the most entertaining part of the movie. He just brings so much joy into this. He even has the best musical number in the entire film. Be Our Guest is just ridiculously amazing. It was done very poorly in the live action film though. Too much CGI. Also, Ewan McGregor’s terrible French accent ruined it. Lumiere just pretty much steals the show for me. He never gets annoying. Every scene he’s in makes me smile. He’s just very great.

4 Belle Belle is a fictional character who appears in Walt Disney Pictures' 30th animated feature film Beauty and the Beast (1991) and in the live action remake Beauty and the Beast (2017). Belle is the intelligent and selfless young daughter of an inventor who does not conform to the normal ways of her small minded village.

Belle isn’t just the most memorable character in Beauty and the Beast, she’s one of the most memorable Disney characters of all time. She’s easily the second best Disney princess to come from the Disney renaissance. Mulan is still better. And I think we can all agree that Ariel and Pocahontas aren’t very good. Belle stands out from other princesses because she mostly cares about inner beauty instead of outer beauty. She didn’t like the Beast at first because of his grumpy attitude. As the movie progresses and they start to get to know each other, she realizes that he’s not such a bad guy after all. I hate when girls only care about what’s on the outside. Like Ariel. What did she like about Eric other than his looks? Belle is an attractive lady but she doesn’t make a big deal about it. Belle and Gaston are basically opposites. She doesn’t care about looks while he cares about nothing but looks. I also like how she can get aggressive and demanding when she needs to be. ...more

5 Cogsworth
6 LeFou

LeFou is Gaston’s assistant. Most villains usually have at least one sidekick that helps them out with evil plans and stuff. I thought LeFou was gonna be one of those characters whose only purpose is to mess things up for the villain, but he’s actually surprisingly competent. He even cheers Gaston up when he is upset that Belle didn’t want to marry him. That song by the way is just very fun and LeFou is the main reason why. He has a lot of funny moments throughout the film. Considering his name literally translates to “the fool”, he has a very silly personality. He’s a great character. Very hilarious.

7 Mrs. Potts
8 Chip

Chip is so adorable! How can you not love him? He made me laugh a bunch of times throughout the movie. He’s just too cute. But I am confused by something. If the Beast was cursed for 10 years, does that mean Chip was born a tea cup? I wish that was explained in the movie. It just really confused me. I don’t remember if it was explained in the live action film.

9 Maurice

Maurice is Belle's father. A problem I have with some Disney princess films is that the princesses usually have parents, mainly fathers, who feel very bland. Maurice is definitely not a bland character. The relationship between her and Belle is very well developed. He is shown to really care about his daughter. People in town treat him like a crazy person, but Belle can see that he's not. And he isn't. He's just old. He didn't want to give up on Belle when she was trapped in the castle. He even attempted to save her himself. That's how much he cares. The father and daughter relationship is just amazing. Maurice is a great father.
