Top Ten Most Memorable Enemies in the Dragon Quest Franchise

This RPG series has quite a way with its enemies. Which types are the most famous ones?
The Top Ten
1 Slime

The iconic slime that looks like a teardrop has been a staple of the series ever since, the Dragon Quest slime is fairly obvious to spot, but it has multiple forms. The most famous of which is the Metal Slime, known for low HP, being hard to actually damage, and running away often.

2 Dragon

Naturally in a game series called Dragon Quest, a common enemy type will be the dragon. These are almost always tough monsters that are capable of strong attacks and fire breaths. The most famous of which is probably the dragon that guards the princess's cell in the first game.

3 Healslime

A version of the slime that looks like a jellyfish, the Healslime is quite obviously a healing monster, keeping their allies aloft during battle. One recurring Healslime is Healie, which can be recruited in some games.

4 Mimic

The group of enemies known as Mimics are popular in many RPG franchises for being treasure chest traps. Mimics in these games are quite nefarious, knowing even insta-kill attacks at times.

5 Great Sabrecat

These feline foes are fast and agile, but there's more to them. In Dragon Quest 5, one is a recruitable ally, and in Dragon Quest 8 you can summon one with Baumren's Bell for faster travel on the world map.

6 King Slime

Another member of the slime group, the King Slime class tend to be a combination of a whole bunch of slimes that group together and make a big one. There is, of course, a metal variant, which is usually the highest experience yield in any Dragon Quest game.

7 Merman

A common enemy class encountered usually at sea, Merman are usually tough in many of their incarnations. One of them is the first boss of Dragon Quest VIII, and a hilarious character to boot.

8 Dracky

A cartoonish-looking bat creature from as far back as the first game, the good-old Dracky is usually a night-time critter, some variants tend to use magic.

9 Rockbomb

Also known as "bomb boulder" these things usually have high health, wait a lot, but when their health is low they use Kamikazee/Sacrifice to completely ruin your run.

10 Slime Knight

Miniature knights on slimes that basically ride them. Very cute. One can be a good ally if you get it in Dragon Quest 5 or 6, by the way.
