Top Ten Metal Albums of the 20th Century

The Top Ten

1 Master of Puppets - Metallica
2 The Number of The Beast - Iron Maiden
3 Rust In Peace - Megadeth
4 Reign in Blood - Slayer
5 Alice in Hell - Annihilator

1989. A technical thrash masterpiece - no bad songs on this album. - Metal_Treasure

6 Painkiller - Judas Priest

Probably the heaviest traditional heavy metal album!

7 Ride the Lighting - Metallica
8 Nightfall in Middle Earth - Blind Guardian

1998. A concept album that is essential in the power metal subgenre. - Metal_Treasure

9 Paranoid - Black Sabbath
10 Master Of Reality - Black Sabbath

If a metal album is pure metal technically or not, doesn't care the 95% of the fans they listen it. Additionaly, the list maker is too young to make these kind of statements.
He better shut up and leave the voters to decide...

Not a pure metal album, but songs like Children of the Grave, Into the Void and Lord of This World are pretty good metal songs

The Contenders

11 Heaven and Hell - Black Sabbath
12 Rising - Rainbow

This album was very important because in 1976 metal was a fragile baby and this album helped it grow up - with Dio impecable vocals and Ritchie Blackmore epic songwriting and technical guitar playing. After this album Judas Priest and Iron Maiden released albums that made metal a thing. - Metal_Treasure

2 masterpieces over 8 minutes: Stargazer & A Light in the Black

13 Burnt Offerings - Iced Earth

1995. Epic, heavy, melodic. Dante's Inferno alone is a reason to consider this album one of the best. - Metal_Treasure

14 Mob Rules - Black Sabbath

One of my favourites albums.

15 Restless and Wild - Accept
16 Metal Heart - Accept
17 Piece of Mind - Iron Maiden
18 Seventh Son of a Seventh Son - Iron Maiden

The top ten should be in the right order (without please)...

30 Metallica - Metallica
31 City - Strapping Young Lad

Best described by Kerrang! as sounding like "sticking your head into the jet nozzle of a Stealth Bomber."

The album is nothing short of ludicrous, insane, and so many other crazy terms rolled into one, displaying Devin Townsend's HUGE vocal range and Gene Hoglan's "machine-like" drumming ability.

When it came to Extreme, "City" is the definition of extreme. - BloodyThunderX
