Best Metal Albums of the 21st Century

The Top Ten

1 Toxicity - System of a Down

The best, this album has no bad songs, along with other System of a Down songs not in this album

So much better than worship music or death magnetic, true creativity, while metallica and anthrax just follow the steps of a recipe...

Yeah, but there's a problem - this album isn't metal and shouldn't be on this list at all, let alone at #1. - Metal_Treasure

2 Worship Music - Anthrax

This is quite possibly the best Anthrax Album. Just because it was made in 2012 does not mean it can't be there best album, and who said that Thrash was dead? Anthrax rules, and as well as this being their best album, it produced maybe their best song, 'In The End', if you haven't heard it, do yourself a favour and look it up - Nightlock

Among the Living is still my pick, but yeah it was an amazing album they've still got it. - 678

3 Ghost Reveries - Opeth

Horrible list, this is clearly the best of the rest by a ten thousand million miles. - Vip3r

4 Iowa - Slipknot

This Disasterpiece is not on the top 10?! (No pun intended)

5 Endgame - Megadeth
6 At the Edge of Time - Blind Guardian
7 Death Magnetic - Metallica

I really don't know why so many people hate on this album. They think that Metallica sold out with this album but that doesn't even make sense. Albums are offered to sell out in their early years when they need money, not when they're millionaiers. They tried something new while still giving it that Metallica feeling and it came out just great.

Please don't crucify me for this, but Death Magnetic is one of the best Thrash albums I have ever heard. It took Metallica back to its roots, and produced some amazing songs, such as 'The Day That Never Comes', 'All Nightmare Long' and 'Cyanide', plus a host of other great songs. Including the only instrumental I know that can stand toe to toe with 'Orion', 'Suicide and Redemption', really, really good album. - Nightlock

This is where Metallica came back.

8 Annihilation of the Wicked - Nile
9 Waking the Fallen - Avenged Sevenfold

While I like their self titled album, I think it at least needs to swap places with waking the fallen as the avenged sevenfold representive in the top 5 of this list. It's more artistic, appeals to screamo fans as well as hard rock fans, and each song is a little longer than average making it a collection of larger, more complex songs. Ideally 1st, but at least top 5 in my opinion

10 Prophecy - Soulfly

The Contenders

11 Sacrament - Lamb of God
12 Akróasis - Obscura Akróasis - Obscura
13 God Hates Us All - Slayer
14 Dark Ages - Soulfly
15 Pandemonium - Cavalera Conspiracy
16 Blackbird - Alter Bridge

This song is so incredible, and even if it maybe doesn't fit with some of the other metal albums in this list, it is amazing all the same! Alter Bridge is such an amazing band, possibly the best of the 21st century, and this is arguably their best album. - Nightlock

Mark Tremonti's solo at the end of the song is wonderful!

17 Horror Show - Iced Earth
18 Minutes to Midnight - Linkin Park

My guess is that they stole the name from iron maiden, only taking the ' two ' away.

...Linkin Park isn't metal...Never was and never will be

This album is amazing, the best Linkin Park Album there is. Every song on it is incredible, and even though it may look like a bit of an odd choice, it should be number 1. If you don't think so, or you think that Linkin Park is not true Metal go home listen to 'Given Up' and say that again. From song one to song thirteen, it is amazing...there is no bad song on this album. - Nightlock

19 The Poison - Bullet for My Valentine

This is a fantastic album, such great heavy songs. And contains the best modern day metal song 'Tears Don't Fall'. - Nightlock

20 Avenged Sevenfold - Avenged Sevenfold

This is probably A7X's best album (although City of Evil and Nightmare are breathing down its throat). Such a good Album, no bad songs...I don't really like 'Unbound (the Wild Side)', but everything else is amazing! - Nightlock

21 Agony - Fleshgod Apocalypse
22 Shogun - Trivium
23 The Blackening - Machine Head

Anthrax at number 1 and Metallica at number 2? Those bands are so overrated. Metallica's music isn't that complex and none of their albums after the Black Album were as good as stuff coming from Opeth or Dream Theater or Machine Head or Tool

24 In Waves - Trivium

This song is maybe the best Trivium Album, although many would say Ascendancy is better, I say In Waves is the best. It is really heavy and powerful, great songs, great album. - Nightlock

25 Lateralus - Tool

This should be #1! Tool create songs like no other, with the title track of the album perhaps being one of the most creative and thought-provoking albums in metal music. LATERALUS is a work of art.

26 Indestructible - Disturbed

This is by far the best Disturbed album, and one of the best albums of the modern metal era. Disturbed really personify everything that modern and Nu Metal is, and this album deserves to be on this list. - Nightlock

27 Demons and Wizards - Demons and Wizards
28 Hybrid Theory - Linkin Park

Nu Metal is still Metal

First of all its not metal.

29 Leviathan - Mastodon

Why is this only at #17? Linkin Park isn't even metal.

30 A Matter of Life and Death - Iron Maiden
31 Octavarium - Dream Theater
32 Beyond the Red Mirror - Blind Guardian
33 Mutter - Rammstein
34 Hardwired... to Self-Destruct - Metallica
35 13 - Black Sabbath

How is this awesomeness not higher?!

36 City of Evil - Avenged Sevenfold

All songs are good, but these are masterpieces:
"Bat Country"
"Beast and the Harlot"
"Blinded in Chains"

The Rev is incredible on the drums, M.Shadows vocals are perfect and there are couple of insane solos by Synyster Gates ("M.I.A. especially). It's my top 1.

37 The Satanist - Behemoth
38 Resurrection - Halford

This is a great album, really strong first album for the metal god, Rob Halford! Halford is so good heavier and faster than Judas Priest, but still with great songs, and some great epics. - Nightlock

39 Brave New World - Iron Maiden

An outstanding metal album

One of my favourites album but it wasn't realese in 21st century - Michtu

40 Phobia - Breaking Benjamin

This Nu Metal Album is great, Breaking Benjamin is a great band. And with songs like 'The Diary Of Jane', and 'Breath. It is their greatest album. - Nightlock

41 Blackwater Park - Opeth
42 15 - Buckcherry
43 Nightmare - Avenged Sevenfold
44 Fallen - Evanescence
45 Crack the Skye - Mastodon
46 From Mars to Sirius - Gojira

Way too low. It's the heaviest album in the universe!

47 The Heart of Everything - Within Temptation
48 Ascendancy - Trivium
49 Angel of Retribution - Judas Priest

This is some real heavy metal! Beats all those other Linkin Park "metal" albums!

This album should be higher... Like... WAY WAY higher!

50 The Book of Souls - Iron Maiden

I wanna vomit - System of a Down at #1 (they aren't metal), and Iron Maiden at #61? - Metal_Treasure

This is one of the best I'm albums and it's at 44?! First of all Iron Maiden has been real heavy metal since 1980 and is barely on the list and Linkin Park is a rock band and at the top?! What the hell has happened?
