Top Ten Best Metal Albums Between 1970 and 1992

Megadeth is one of metal's most respected bands. Any one of their albums could have made this list, (other than Risk), but 1990's Rust In Peace is Megadeth at their finest.

MOST OVERRATED ALBUM IN METAL HISTORY.
It offered nothing musically to any kind of metal genre and it was the start of the 'rong' direction of Megadeth.

This has to be at the top! My favorite album of all time.

With tracks like Iron Man, War Pigs, and the title track, it's easy to see why this is my number one. There's just something about this album, like everything fits together. Sure, there are bands today that are more "brutal" or "extreme", but Black Sabbath was the band that started it all.

Definitely the best (although not my favourite).

Another "master"piece album released in 1986, Metallica's third album is a thrash metal classic with plenty of great songs. These include Battery, the title track, Welcome Home (Sanitarium), and Disposable Heroes. While 1983's Kill Em All and 1984's Ride The Lightning are both great, I ultimately chose this one.

The origins of Cliff Burton should remain, he's such a good player in this album.

Pantera changed the face of metal in 1992 when this album came out. Bringing the blues back into metal, this album showcases groove-based rhythms and awesome guitar work.

Don't get me wrong, Iron Maiden is great, but they are kind of overrated. That being said, this record is fantastic with tracks like: Run To The Hills, the title track, and Hallowed Be Thy Name.

Home to the iconic Smoke On The Water, Deep Purple's 1972 album is a classic. It isn't exactly metal by today's standards, but in the early 70s it was a bit heavier than most of the rock around at that time.

Slayer. Enough said. Well, not quite. This album is thrash metal at it's heaviest, fastest, and most raw. For 1986, it was pretty crazy. Standout tracks: Angel Of Death, Postmortem, Raining Blood.

Judas Priest is rather underrated considering the achievements they have made for this genre. They basically made metal what it is today. 1978's Stained Class is also a classic, but with songs like Breaking The Law and Living After Midnight, this was the one I had to go with.

Should be in the top 10.

To close off our list, we have Brazilian thrash band Sepultura's 1989 album Beneath The Remains. The title track and Inner Self are awesome songs, and the guitar tone is killer. 1991's Arise is also worth mentioning.

Death is basically the first death metal band, and they have had some great albums. Though Leprosy and Scream Bloody Gore are also worth mentioning, Human is their magnum opus. With songs like Lack Of Comprehension, it's hard to see why not.
