The Contenders: Page 3

41 High on Fire High on Fire High on Fire is an American heavy metal band from Oakland, California, that was formed in 1998. Matt Pike, the band's frontman and founder, also plays guitar for the influential stoner doom band Sleep.

I think HOF should be way wayyy higher on this list. Their discography is unparalleled, but what's more important is that they keep getting better and more creative IN THE GENRE THEY'RE PLAYING. They've been playing heavy music for 6 albums, and each album gets heavier and catchier. Each album is true to its roots. They don't change their style, they just expand it further and further. They're never repetitive, never dull, and never sold out. De Vermis Myseriis bashed my skull in like no album before it, and I said the same for Snakes for the Divine when it came out, and the same for Death is this Communion before it, and Blessed Black Wings before it! The fact that they're a power trio is even more impressive. The one mantra that describes these guys best is "no compromises". These guys are 110% metal, you are doing yourself a huge disservice if you don't listen to their music.

42 Evile Evile Evile are an English thrash metal band from Huddersfield, formed in 2004. The band's debut album, Enter the Grave, was produced by Flemming Rasmussen at Sweet Silence Studios in Copenhagen, Denmark and was released worldwide in 2007 by Earache Records to critical acclaim by fans and critics alike.

While they're not reinventing the wheel by any means, their Slayer-meets-Metallica thrash sound is surely a nice and fresh addition to the metal scene in an age of metal- and deathcore.

43 Marilyn Manson Marilyn Manson Marilyn Manson is an American rock band from Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Formed in 1989 by frontman Marilyn Manson and Daisy Berkowitz, the group was originally named Marilyn Manson & the Spooky Kids with their theatrical performances gathering a local cult following in the early 1990s. more.

44 Bring Me the Horizon Bring Me the Horizon Bring Me the Horizon is a British rock band from Sheffield, Yorkshire. Formed in 2004, the group currently consists of vocalist Oliver Sykes, guitarist Lee Malia, bassist Matt Kean, drummer Matt Nicholls, and keyboardist Jordan Fish. They are signed to RCA Records globally and Columbia Records exclusively more.

Should be in top 10, not as #50. like, In my opinion, seriously one of the best bands ever. I mean it, it ain't just "some band" it's a huge band that I absolutely love

Worst band of all time. No real riffs to be found anywhere, just talentless 0-0-1-0-0-0 breakdowns, awful lyrics and vocals and a pathetically fake and processed sound. Talentless hacks like these losers making it big, let alone being passed off as "metal" are one of the reasons why I'm convinced there is no God.

In my opinion, BMTH is the best band ever. I don't know why this band is 45th. I think it should have been in top 10. Oli Sykes even had a throat cancer from screaming in Count Your Blessings, Suicide Season, There is a Hell...

Good band

Isberg ended up leaving the band, which lead to Mikael becoming the band's vocalist, guitarist, principal songwriter, and driving force. Along with more.

Blackwater park, Deliverance, Damnation, Ghost Reveries and Watershed = amazing decade for these guys. By the way, this is one of the worst lists I have ever seen.

Listen to one song ghost reveries and you will see why this band is better than any listed above them.

47?! Really?! Every album these guys released in the 2000s was a masterpiece; 2001's blackwater park is one of the greatest progressive metal albums of all time - period.

51...what, Opeth should be up there in the top 3 without a second thought

Although the band has experienced several line-up changes, for most of its recording career, Shadows Fall has been composed of Jonathan Donais, Matt Bachand, Paul Romanko, Brian Fair, and Jason Bittner.

Way underrated and by the way this list is an opinion, this I know but god it sucks

49 Linkin Park Linkin Park Linkin Park is an American rock band formed in Agoura Hills, California, in 1996. The members include Chester Bennington (vocals), Mike Shinoda (rapping vocals, pianist), Brad Delson (guitar), Dave "Phoenix" Farrell (bass), Joe Hahn (DJ) and Rob Bourdon (drums). Linkin Park are associated with a mixture more.

Linkin Park is perhaps the best Nu metal band in this decade
Meteora and minutes to midnight were just awesome
They definitely deserve more votes

Linkin Park deserve to be in the top ten, they are one of the best in 2000 metal bands.! They can rock it out for sure!

Awful cliched contrived crap, not metal in the slightest. Probably closer in sound to Taylor Swift than metal.

Should be so much higher what

50 Escape the Fate Escape the Fate
51 Whitechapel Whitechapel Whitechapel is an American deathcore band from Knoxville, Tennessee. The band is named after the Whitechapel district in East London, England, referencing the series of murders committed by Jack the Ripper.

People might trash this band as "core" music, but they're way more than that. Each album they progress their sound and Phil's vocals are always great.

First album was cool as far as deathcore goes. Sadly they quickly opted for the generic deathcore route afterwards before deciding to be the deathcore version of Slipknot with their s/t album.

52 Annihilator Annihilator Annihilator is a Canadian thrash metal band founded in 1984 by vocalist, guitarist, bassist, songwriter, engineer, producer, mixer and mastering engineer Jeff Waters and former vocalist John Bates.

This band only has one album worth listening too and it was released way back in '89.

53 After Forever
54 Chimaira Chimaira Chimaira was an American heavy metal band from Cleveland, Ohio. Formed in 1998, the group was a notable member of the New Wave of American Heavy Metal scene.

One of the heaviest groove metal bands out there. Amazing vocalist with the ability to do both inhale and exhale screaming. There albums continue to show they're going strong and they're not going to be going soft anytime soon. Their rifts are often all over the place and not simply scales as well. Great band.

My favorite band of new/modern metal (2000-present). They're not too metalcore-esque, rather fusing several styles together into a very heavy, thrashing, slamming, groovy and aggressive sound. I always thought it was very unfortunate that so many metalheads passed on this band. They're beast!

Super unique, heavvy, melodic and thrashy. Its not for everyone but if you like this band you usually really like this band or not very much at all. Personally this band makes me unstoppable on xboxlive

55 Black Label Society Black Label Society Black Label Society is an American heavy metal band from Los Angeles, California formed in 1998 by Zakk Wylde.

What 57? Ok, this guy is the biggest metal head on earth. Love it or leave it. Zakk Wylde lead us on! BLS doesn't have to be #1, but as far as metal goes, I mean is Rage Against the Machine even metal? Same with many other bands up the list here. I'm not putting any of the bands on this list down, I like most all of them, but Black Label Society is what metal bands should look up to and aspire to be in many ways.

Zakk Wylde shredding on guitar. Get your southern metal fix.

How are they so low? You guys are ridiculous!

56 Mudvayne Mudvayne Mudvayne was an American heavy metal band from Peoria, Illinois formed in 1996. Originally from Bloomington, Illinois, they are known for their sonic experimentation, innovative album art, face and body paint, masks and uniforms.

Almost all of their songs are kicking ass. Recommended: IMN, Happy? , Pulling the String, World So Cold, Severed, Dull Boy, Fall into Sleep, Fish out of the Water, Death Blooms, Choices, Forget to Remember, All That you Are, Never Enough, Do What You Do, A New Game, Have It Your Way, A Cinderella Story, Scarlet Letters, Dig, Cradle, Nothing to Gein, Not Falling, Determined, Pushing Through

Absolutely shocked they are 58th. Need to be in top 15 At least. August 14, 2015.

This is just disgraceful. they're the reason I got into metal

Incredible band, especially the early stuff.

60 UnderOath UnderOath

In fairness before Underoath became the awful cliched Jesus loving crap people know them for, they had a really good black metal sounding album called Cries of the Past. Sadly, it seems the band are no talent hacks nowadays and will never release an album even a quarter as good as that album was.

Define the Great Line, most influential hardcore album of the last ten years, not to mention best album of the last ten years. Also one of the few bands really from the 2000's on this list. Made some metal but mostly hardcore. Most sellingest hardcore band in history.

This band is outstanding you! Yeah you whos reading this you have to pick this band up man/girl they will rock your face off.
