61 Soundgarden Soundgarden Soundgarden is an American rock band formed in Seattle, Washington, in 1984 by singer and rhythm guitarist Chris Cornell, lead guitarist Kim Thayil, and bassist Hiro Yamamoto.

Grunge isn't a sub-genre of Alternative Metal, otherwise Nirvana, Mudhoney, Pearl Jam etc. would be regarded as metal bands, which they aren't, not in the slightest. Jeremy's spoken!

They're not grunge, they're Sabbath on steroids.

Yes! Although they were called grunge, they are pure metal. So amazing!

Fantastic music,(best grunge) but you might as well put gin blossoms and stuff on here too.

62 Led Zeppelin Led Zeppelin Led Zeppelin were an English rock band formed in London in 1968. The group consisted of Robert Plant (Vocal), Jimmy Page (Guitar), John Paul Jones (Bass, Keyboard) and John Bonham (Drums). The band's heavy, guitar-driven sound, rooted in blues and psychedelia on their early albums, has earned them recognition ...read more.

Let me explain why Led Zeppelin is not high on this list: they are not a Metal Band. They are Classic Rock. Even that's too specific, because they've tried everything in the book. They've tried reggae, rock, country-rock, heavy metal, and even mixed in some folk. I'm only voting for them because I like them, but they belong on a different list.

Why the hell is Zeppelin so low on this list? This is easily the greatest and most influential rock band in history with Pink Floyd

Comments like: "Why are they so low" or "Why are they lower than Metallica" are funny. Well like it or not, Metallica (which I don't specifically like that much) belong to this list way more than Led Zeppelin obviously because they're actually heavy metal! Led Zeppelin only had a few songs that could arguably be considered metal. It's annoying how the Led Zeppelin/Queen/Beatles fanboys always act this way and include their favorite band on every list even if it's unrelated. - RalphSaad

I always have felt like they are a happier sabbath despite not really being metal

63 Cattle Decapitation Cattle Decapitation Cattle Decapitation is an American Deathgrind band from San Diego, California formed in 1996. Cattle Decapitation's songs protest the mistreatment and consumption of animals, the abuse of the environment and touch subjects such as misanthropy and genocide of the human race. Much of their music is based ...read more.

A unique style has been crafted by them in the last few years, and it's putridly, violently beautiful. They are amazing.

Metallica is Nursery Rhymes compared to these guys

It's a shame to see this band so low on the list. - Azerix

Should be #1

64 Sodom Sodom Sodom is a German thrash metal band from Gelsenkirchen, formed in 1981. They have gone through many line-up changes, leaving bassist vocalist Tom Angelripper as the only constant member.

Because we're older fans of a genre and generation that witnessed the birth of Punk and Thrash and Death and Black. How many kids know about this stuff? Not many.

Voted not because Sodom is the best but they don belong to 135

Sodom is epic band. Why it is 207?

Awesome band. - Disturbedpotato

65 Symphony X Symphony X Symphony X is an American progressive metal band from Middletown, New Jersey. Founded in 1994, the band consists of guitarist Michael Romeo, keyboardist Michael Pinnella, drummer Jason Rullo, lead vocalist Russell Allen and bassist Michael Lepond.

Symphony X Is awesome. This band has so many songs that once you hear them you can't stop listening to them. songs like Inferno (Unleash The Fire). This band should be ranked higher.

Seriously, how are these guys below Three Days Grace? Anyone who disagrees should be forced to listen to the entire V album on repeat for 20 hours a day until they understand what they are missing

Love this band. definitely above a7x or three days grace. Seriously people.. Romeo is such a talented guitarist.

One of the most underrated artists

Most bands on media just have passion + some skills, but
Symphony X has passion + Great skills + Great knowledge!

66 Shinedown Shinedown Shinedown is an American hard rock band from Jacksonville, Florida, formed in 2001 and founded by members Brent Smith, Brad Stewart, Jasin Todd, and Barry Kerch.

I seen some things man I've seen some stuff I wouldn't recommend it. Shinedown helped me through it, I seen haleys comet and she gave me a second chance

Honestly one of the best bands out there even today, considering they have been making amazing music for over a decade! Love em to death and even after! 3

More rock than metal but some of the best metal songs deserve top five

I vote for Shinedown for 2 reasons :
1. They're my most favourite band
2. Let you know they're NOT metal
That's it.

67 Motley Crue Motley Crue Mötley Crüe was an American metal band formed in Los Angeles, California on January 17, 1981. The group was founded by bassist Nikki Sixx and drummer Tommy Lee, lead vocalist Vince Neil and lead guitarist Mick Mars.

Why the Heck did they put Motley Crue in 59? Its just wrong man, they should be arrested for that kind of stupid stoned and dumb thing that they did. I know Ozzy, Guns N Roses, KISS, Scorpions, and AC/DC and other ones are good but Motley Crue is the best IN THE Best Metal Bands.

Another hard rock list crossover, but metal enough to be here. Some great albums, and a great show in Santa Monica.

How the heck is Motley Crue the greatest hair metal band of all time in 58 place while bullet for my valentine a crappy band in 13 place the list is rigged

You all know, ACDC, Guns N Roses, Led Zeppelin and Linkin Park aren't metal. - Disturbedpotato

68 Amorphis Amorphis Amorphis is a Finnish metal band formed in 1990. Initially, the band was a death metal act, but on later albums they have evolved into playing other genres, such as folk metal and progressive metal.

Amorphis is the best group in dark and doom metal. I love the singer of this group Toni.

I am a huge fan of all the top bands here. Metallica, Iron maiden etc. Even the high ranked metalcore like Avenged Sevenfold and Bullet For My Valentine and the progressive metal of Dream Theater is simply wonderful. However one of my musician friends introduced me to Amorphis and that's where I found folk metal.

Since then Amorphis has captivated me unlike anything else. The musical melody while preserving the acute skillset, energy and roar of metal is simply amazing. Try a few songs by Amorphis. Sampo, Silver bride and My Kantele are just a few gems. Personally I hold this band at par with all the greats I mentioned before. I'm sure that once you try out their music, you will come back and give this amazing (Arguably one of the finest) band a well deserved vote. - Skymoon22

Tommi Joutsens voice period.

69 Gojira Gojira Gojira is a progressive metal band from Bayonne, France. The band was known as Godzilla until 2001. Gojira is composed of Joe Duplantier on vocals and rhythm guitar, his brother Mario Duplantier on drums, Christian Andreu on lead guitar, and Jean-Michel Labadie on bass.

Simply put, Gojira is one of the best metal bands in the past decade- Between their strong lyrics, powerful guitar playing, and one of the best drummers hands down, they are a powerhouse that deserves a spot in the top ten. For God's sake, these guys made me regain some respect for France! (their home country)

I'd say at least half of the bands on this list aren't even metal, or are casually heavy at best. Gojira makes Bullet for my Valentine look like Hawthorne Heights.

Guys, seriously? Haven't you heard of the name? Gojira should at least be in the top 20. Give a listen to them and you'll be tripping balls. They're easily one of the heaviest and consistent bands here.

What the hell? This band is easily top 10 material! And Bullet for My Valentine is in the top 20! Get this band up!

70 White Zombie White Zombie White Zombie was an American heavy metal band that formed in 1985. Based in New York City, White Zombie was originally a noise rock band, and was known for its later heavy metal-oriented sound.

If there were more records, he would definitely be higher on my list. Saw a few youtube videos, and they were pretty atrocious live, but the records are awesome!

Love rob zombie in his work. They should be in the 60s-70s not 160!

Spectacular

71 The Acacia Strain

Highly underrated simply due to be pigeon holed into the hardcore genre. Heavy, destructive music.

The baddest band ever. Pure brutal sound!

72 Mudvayne Mudvayne Mudvayne was an American heavy metal band from Peoria, Illinois formed in 1996. Originally from Bloomington, Illinois, they are known for their sonic experimentation, innovative album art, face and body paint, masks and uniforms.

Chad Gray is a beast, no way around it he is a better vocalist than most of the singers in these bands are. Honestly it's because the bands being "Nu Metal" that Mudvayne and Korn are so low. Even though they are more alternative metal than nu metal. Back to Mudvayne, look at some of their older stuff Dig, The End of All Things to Come, World So Cold, Happy, Determined, Just.. Anything off their first 3 albums is great. I don't know about their new stuff I haven't heard any yet. As for their hiatus, Chad is now doing albums with Vinny Paul in the band Hellyeah so give them a try too, they're pretty good.

This is some bull Mudvayne defined heaviness in vocals and guitar especially Chad greys awesome vocals he can go from singing softly to all out screaming and growling in 5.4 seconds, people mudvayne was the beginning of heavy vocals, vote higher people and all their albums are great I've listened to all of them and haven't found a single track that sounded like complete! Mudvayne deserves top 20 at least, mudvayne is right up there with Korn and mushroomhead, if you really value today's modern metal you would vote for mudvayne.

Should be at number 1. Chad gray has best voice among these band. This band have created some epic song does not deserve rank 54.

This band should be in the top tens

73 Sonata Arctica Sonata Arctica Sonata Arctica is a Finnish power metal band from the town of Kemi, Finland. Created as a hard rock band named Tricky Beans, they later changed to Tricky Means and finally to Sonata Arctica, when they shifted to power metal.

One of THE BEST bands I've ever heard, n fact my favourite band of all time. I really don't understand how SA can be so far down on this list, they deserve to be number 1! I know power metal is not a well-known genre but when you look deeper than Metallica or Slipknot, you can find gems like this band, it's a shame they are so underrated... I discovered them at a time in my life when I was depressed as well and never had I known that a band like this could change my life, and even the songs are very relatable to me. The lyrics are like poetry to me, and every track is beautifully composed, both lyrically and melodically. The keyboards and guitars are extremely talented and Tony Kakko's vocals are sublime - Tony has an amazing voice! Sure, they have evolved their power metal style to a more progressive genre, but that is not necessarily a bad thing, as I feel their newer albums have a lot more meaning, and connection to the listener and are a lot more complex, however I still can never ...more

Sonata Arctica have had a popularity fall with their newest albums, The style is more mainstream and love related from before when there was more anger and moral choices. They still holds one of the two best albums ever made in the "power metal" genre. Winterheart's Guild and Reckoning Night. With their stunning preformance with "The Cage". Great band, but I understand the low rating, since power metal is not really a popular genre.

If you're unfamiliar, listen to White Pearl, Black Oceans. One of the greatest songs I've heard

Top 20 stuff definitely - Disturbedpotato

This guy is amazing, sure, he killed a man and burnt a few churches, but it adds to the black metal euphoria-thing.

Classic. And you know it

77 Rise Against Rise Against Rise Against is an American hardcore punk band from Chicago, Illinois, formed in 1999. The band's current line-up comprises vocalist/rhythm guitarist Tim McIlrath, lead guitarist Zach Blair, bassist Joe Principe and drummer Brandon Barnes. They are known for popularizing punk.

Rise against is not a metal band, they're a punk band pure and simple, and a very good one at that.

Did they - or any other Punk band for that matter - have an impact on metal? If so, they're rightly here. If not, fair enough. I often look at Dead Kennedys track Drug Me and In God We Trust ep as influential for its hardcore aggression, and I know Sepultura cover them. Ponderous.

Guys, how could this band is not in the list! This band has all the power, riffs, vocals and lyrics. This is the best band and it is modern band. We should give them a credit for what they deserve.

They are punk and hardcore... no way near metal - Th3Zm0nst3r

78 Kreator Kreator Kreator is a German thrash metal band from Essen. Why am I seeing this below crappy bands like underoath and Bullet For My Valentine? Kreator practically pioneered death metal with pleasure to kill and endless pain, why don't they get any credit?

Lol! This band is like Metallica but good? Comedy gold. I love Kreator, but they were just a twinkle in Metallica's eye when the gods gave birth to Kreator.

Yes! They are too low on the list, and I can't put my finger on why. I guess the 80's was such a prolific time for thrash that they just got thrown in the laundry basket, along with Sodom, Destruction, Vendetta, Deathrow - you name it. Still, to this day, killing it both on album and live.

this is.

79 Behemoth Behemoth Behemoth is a Polish blackened death metal band from Gdańsk, formed in 1991. They are considered to have played an important role in establishing the Polish extreme metal underground.

Metallica are not a trend, not in the slightest. They are the greatest trendsetters in metal history. People love them for what they did do, not what they didn't. Progressive Tech Thrash is not radio-friendly.

If this list was actually a top ten list, this band would be there, the only reason Metallica is popular is the same reason that Justin Bieber is popular, it's a trend...

Favorite blackened death metal band. Nergal is definitely a virtuoso

Hell yeah

80 Suicide Silence Suicide Silence Suicide Silence is an American deathcore band from Riverside, California. Formed in 2002, the band has released four full-length studio albums, one EP and eleven music videos.

Suicide Silence is not metal. They're also absolutely awful, I took a dump yesterday and it sounded better than their music.

Why is everybody hating on these guys? Sure they ain't the best but come on they're not complete crap. Why don't you hate on something more deserving like Bring Me The Horizon.

The pole mitch hit was heavier and more metal then him

Why do you say deathcore isn't metal? I can understand disliking it, but you can't say it's not metal. lol - IslanD
