The Contenders: Page 4

61 Helloween Helloween Helloween is a German power metal band founded in 1984 in Hamburg, Northern Germany. The band is a pioneering force in the power metal genre, and their second and third studio albums, Keeper of the Seven Keys: Part I and Part II, are considered masterpieces of the genre.

Helloween are the best power metal band in the world! only listen their EPIC saga "Keepers Of The Seven Keys", prepare to enter heaven!

How in hell Helloween is 39? They created Power Metal, which is an amazing Metal Style, also they have the best members in this category, awesome composers, great vocals, bass, guitars and drums, mostly drums with Ingo amazing work. They deserve much more than poser bands like Slipknot and A7x

Any band that can lose their lead singer, after making two epic albums, help create new genre, but be followed by low rated let down albums, and then still somehow manage to make a come back with equally awesome music and equally epic singer should be way higher up on a metal list.

Sad this band isn't much higher. Fantastic power metal, and great music throughout their discography.

63 Symphony X Symphony X Symphony X is an American progressive metal band from Middletown, New Jersey. Founded in 1994, the band consists of guitarist Michael Romeo, keyboardist Michael Pinnella, drummer Jason Rullo, lead vocalist Russell Allen and bassist Michael Lepond.

Symphony X Is awesome. This band has so many songs that once you hear them you can't stop listening to them. songs like Inferno (Unleash The Fire). This band should be ranked higher.

Seriously, how are these guys below Three Days Grace? Anyone who disagrees should be forced to listen to the entire V album on repeat for 20 hours a day until they understand what they are missing

Love this band. definitely above a7x or three days grace. Seriously people.. Romeo is such a talented guitarist.

One of the most underrated artists

Most bands on media just have passion + some skills, but
Symphony X has passion + Great skills + Great knowledge!

64 Born of Osiris Born of Osiris Born of Osiris is an American deathcore band, formed in 2003 in Palatine, a suburb of Chicago. The group underwent several name changes, including Diminished, Your Heart Engraved, and Rosecrance, before finally settling on Born of Osiris in 2007, basing the name on the Egyptian deity Osiris, and the more.

This is gonna be the future ruler of metal world; the "Metallica of the future". This band is very young and fresh so popularity is its biggest problem. But once it gets into the years of metal lovers, Metallica will be doomed. This band is worth hearing 4 its guitar, drums, screaming and keyboard skills. This deathcore band deserves a chance in the top 3 list. Hear songs like:
Follow the signs
Recreate, etc.
please vote 4 this band and hear the songs.

This band is certainly too young and unpopular but once it gains popularity, it will reach the top for sure.
Hear songs like:
Follow the signs
Open arms to damnation
Abstract art
Shaping the masterpiece
I was literally stunned and amazed at hearing Follow the signs. This deathcore band is so damn skilled and beautiful. I am sure that time will lift up this band! Please vote 4 this band!

Somebody lend me your ears so that I can inject some quality progressive deathcore music here! Listen to this band man! It will blow your mind! My suggestions to you my mates-
Follow the signs
The Omniscient
- Listen to them and your life will seem different. If you don't get goosebumps while listening to them, I'll stop listening to metal music!

I own all of their albums and am impressed. They won't gain the notoriety of Metallica because only Iron Maiden come close, but as a band they are very talented.

65 Killswitch Engage Killswitch Engage Killswitch Engage is an American metalcore band from Westfield, Massachusetts, formed in 1999 after the disbanding of Overcast and Aftershock.

Killswitch Engage is definitely up there, their sound is unique without being too unfamiliar to the ears of metal fans.

Greatest band of all time every song s different unique and amazing Howard jones has the best vocals of any band. This deserves to be a lot higher on the list

Oh, come on! Really?! This band got a song into Guitar Hero 3: Legends of Rock, for a reason! My Curse is absolutely AMAZING! Why are these guys at damn FIFTY-SEVEN! BEHIND Linkin Park, WHO ARE HARDLY ROCK?! - The1stEpicFace

Have you morons ever actually listened to Killswitch's music?... They're definitely one of the greatest bands in the world when it comes to just about anything metal stands for... With bonus that they're a very inspiring band too!

66 Mayhem Mayhem Mayhem is a Norwegian black metal band formed in 1984 in Oslo, regarded as one of the pioneers of the Norwegian black metal scene.

Metal was supposed to be hard, all these bands are so soft. Mayhem is one of the only real metal bands on this list. Honestly all the other bands talk, but mayhem did, and still does. Real metal is mayhem.

I miss dead. I guess he would have wanted to go out that way though. One of my most favorite bands of all time.

I'd comment on this, but I like my life, my head attached to my shoulders, and my place of residence too much.

The most satanic band ever xDDD - Disturbedpotato

67 Dethklok Dethklok Dethklok is both a virtual band featured in the Adult Swim animated program Metalocalypse and a real band created to perform the band's melodic death metal music in live shows. Both bands were created by Brendon Small and Tommy Blacha. more.

Although it was started on a T.V. show, the level of talent show by the band is greater the most on this list. Gene Hoglan, is one of the best metal drummers ever, and Brendan Small is an extremely good guitarist, together they create the MOST METAL MUSIC EVER.

This is the greatest Death Metal band I've ever heard of. They take everything which is brutal and make it into a song. For example, when the world needs a song about mass mermaid murder, they're there to make it real. Not only that, but the riffs in their songs will rock (or metal) your world when you hear them.

What can I say dethklok like gives me the adrenaline no other music gives me it makes me mad and happy at the same time, also I love lifting weights to their bad ass riffs and lyrics. Dethklok kicks ass.

I am Doctor Rockso the Rock n Roll clown! I'm here to say I DO COCAINE!

68 Kreator Kreator Kreator is a German thrash metal band from Essen. Their style of music is similar to that of their compatriots Destruction, Sodom and Tankard; along with those three bands, Kreator has been referred to as one of the "big four" of Teutonic thrash metal, and they are often credited with helping pioneer more.

Why am I seeing this below crappy bands like underoath and Bullet For My Valentine? Kreator practically pioneered death metal with pleasure to kill and endless pain, why don't they get any credit?

Lol! This band is like Metallica but good? Comedy gold. I love Kreator, but they were just a twinkle in Metallica's eye when the gods gave birth to Kreator.

Yes! They are too low on the list, and I can't put my finger on why. I guess the 80's was such a prolific time for thrash that they just got thrown in the laundry basket, along with Sodom, Destruction, Vendetta, Deathrow - you name it. Still, to this day, killing it both on album and live.

Kreator is at 104? What a joke this list is. I think this list was made by casual metal fans - Sabbath

69 Arch Enemy Arch Enemy Arch Enemy is a Swedish melodic death metal band, originally a supergroup, from Halmstad, formed in 1996. Its members were in bands such as Carcass, Armageddon, Carnage, Mercyful Fate, Spiritual Beggars, and Eucharist.

If Metallica is the god, Arch Enemy is the goddess! WE WILL RISE! Angela Gossow's voice rules!

Re-edited James Hetfield rhyme due to prior Alcoholica: 'Dear mother, dear father, time has frozen still what's left to be. Hear nothing, say nothing, cannot face the fact I think for me. No guarantee it's life as is, but damn you for not giving me my chance.' At, say, 27 years-of-age, how many alienated people do you think the great man was speaking on behalf of? Rhyme? It's profound poetry, delivered with all the venom and fury that emotional abuse deserves. Remember: HE WROTE THIS AS A KID! WITHOUT BURTON! That's how great the young man was.

Would you date her? I mean, she's a good looker, but if she started screaming at you the way she does after, say, undercooking the scrambled eggs, could you live with it? I'm not that way inclined, but if I woke up next to Hetfield after a rather forgettable night back in 1986, and he had battered me with his shortest straw, I think I could live with the sorrow I had harvested. Hey, he said hit the lights, and that was the last I knew - except for limping around for a day after.

Dude really this is so far down get it higher! - TommyKarevikFan

70 Cattle Decapitation Cattle Decapitation Cattle Decapitation is an American Deathgrind band from San Diego, California formed in 1996. Cattle Decapitation's songs protest the mistreatment and consumption of animals, the abuse of the environment and touch subjects such as misanthropy and genocide of the human race. Much of their music is based more.

A unique style has been crafted by them in the last few years, and it's putridly, violently beautiful. They are amazing.

Metallica is Nursery Rhymes compared to these guys

It's a shame to see this band so low on the list. - Azerix

Lol! Graphic name. I'm turning vegan ASAP.

71 Cradle of Filth Cradle of Filth Cradle of Filth are a British extreme metal band that formed in Suffolk in 1991. The band's musical style evolved from black metal to a cleaner and more "produced" amalgam of gothic metal, symphonic black metal and other extreme metal styles.

Cradle of Filth should be in the top ten! My preference laugh out loud

Another day, another fad. People will be still (yawn) be talking about Master of Puppets, Reign In Blood, Peace Sells in 100-years time whilst this rabble will just be obsolete.

Their lyric can make a movie you know

Horrible band - jack2244

72 Shinedown Shinedown Shinedown is an American hard rock band from Jacksonville, Florida, formed in 2001 and founded by members Brent Smith, Brad Stewart, Jasin Todd, and Barry Kerch.

I seen some things man I've seen some stuff I wouldn't recommend it. Shinedown helped me through it, I seen haleys comet and she gave me a second chance

Honestly one of the best bands out there even today, considering they have been making amazing music for over a decade! Love em to death and even after! 3

More rock than metal but some of the best metal songs deserve top five

73 Behemoth Behemoth Behemoth is a Polish blackened death metal band from GdaƄsk, formed in 1991. They are considered to have played an important role in establishing the Polish extreme metal underground.

Metallica are not a trend, not in the slightest. They are the greatest trendsetters in metal history. People love them for what they did do, not what they didn't. Progressive Tech Thrash is not radio-friendly.

If this list was actually a top ten list, this band would be there, the only reason Metallica is popular is the same reason that Justin Bieber is popular, it's a trend...

Favorite blackened death metal band. Nergal is definitely a virtuoso

75 Gojira Gojira Gojira is a progressive metal band from Bayonne, France. The band was known as Godzilla until 2001. Gojira is composed of Joe Duplantier on vocals and rhythm guitar, his brother Mario Duplantier on drums, Christian Andreu on lead guitar, and Jean-Michel Labadie on bass.

Simply put, Gojira is one of the best metal bands in the past decade- Between their strong lyrics, powerful guitar playing, and one of the best drummers hands down, they are a powerhouse that deserves a spot in the top ten. For God's sake, these guys made me regain some respect for France! (their home country)

Guys, seriously? Haven't you heard of the name? Gojira should at least be in the top 20. Give a listen to them and you'll be tripping balls. They're easily one of the heaviest and consistent bands here.

I'd say at least half of the bands on this list aren't even metal, or are casually heavy at best. Gojira makes Bullet for my Valentine look like Hawthorne Heights.

Actually, seeing Bullet for my Valentine higher on the list than Gojira makes me sad. Smart lyrics, heavy yet somewhat catchy riffs and insane drumming, this band has it all.

76 Agalloch Agalloch

Positively surprised to find them on this list, considering they aren't that popular outside of the underground black metal scene. This band has produced some of the most beautifully haunting and atmospheric albums I've ever heard. They're beyond great and deserve way more recognition.

In fact their sounds are the best folk metal I heard till now.

77 Mudvayne Mudvayne Mudvayne was an American heavy metal band from Peoria, Illinois formed in 1996. Originally from Bloomington, Illinois, they are known for their sonic experimentation, innovative album art, face and body paint, masks and uniforms.

Chad Gray is a beast, no way around it he is a better vocalist than most of the singers in these bands are. Honestly it's because the bands being "Nu Metal" that Mudvayne and Korn are so low. Even though they are more alternative metal than nu metal. Back to Mudvayne, look at some of their older stuff Dig, The End of All Things to Come, World So Cold, Happy, Determined, Just.. Anything off their first 3 albums is great. I don't know about their new stuff I haven't heard any yet. As for their hiatus, Chad is now doing albums with Vinny Paul in the band Hellyeah so give them a try too, they're pretty good.

This is some bull Mudvayne defined heaviness in vocals and guitar especially Chad greys awesome vocals he can go from singing softly to all out screaming and growling in 5.4 seconds, people mudvayne was the beginning of heavy vocals, vote higher people and all their albums are great I've listened to all of them and haven't found a single track that sounded like complete! Mudvayne deserves top 20 at least, mudvayne is right up there with Korn and mushroomhead, if you really value today's modern metal you would vote for mudvayne.

Should be at number 1. Chad gray has best voice among these band. This band have created some epic song does not deserve rank 54.

This band should be in the top tens

78 White Zombie White Zombie White Zombie was an American heavy metal band that formed in 1985. Based in New York City, White Zombie was originally a noise rock band, and was known for its later heavy metal-oriented sound.

If there were more records, he would definitely be higher on my list. Saw a few youtube videos, and they were pretty atrocious live, but the records are awesome!

Love rob zombie in his work. They should be in the 60s-70s not 160!

79 Sonata Arctica Sonata Arctica Sonata Arctica is a Finnish power metal band from the town of Kemi, Finland. Created as a hard rock band named Tricky Beans, they later changed to Tricky Means and finally to Sonata Arctica, when they shifted to power metal.

One of THE BEST bands I've ever heard, n fact my favourite band of all time. I really don't understand how SA can be so far down on this list, they deserve to be number 1! I know power metal is not a well-known genre but when you look deeper than Metallica or Slipknot, you can find gems like this band, it's a shame they are so underrated... I discovered them at a time in my life when I was depressed as well and never had I known that a band like this could change my life, and even the songs are very relatable to me. The lyrics are like poetry to me, and every track is beautifully composed, both lyrically and melodically. The keyboards and guitars are extremely talented and Tony Kakko's vocals are sublime - Tony has an amazing voice! Sure, they have evolved their power metal style to a more progressive genre, but that is not necessarily a bad thing, as I feel their newer albums have a lot more meaning, and connection to the listener and are a lot more complex, however I still can never ...more

Sonata Arctica have had a popularity fall with their newest albums, The style is more mainstream and love related from before when there was more anger and moral choices. They still holds one of the two best albums ever made in the "power metal" genre. Winterheart's Guild and Reckoning Night. With their stunning preformance with "The Cage". Great band, but I understand the low rating, since power metal is not really a popular genre.

If you're unfamiliar, listen to White Pearl, Black Oceans. One of the greatest songs I've heard

80 The Acacia Strain

Highly underrated simply due to be pigeon holed into the hardcore genre. Heavy, destructive music.

The baddest band ever. Pure brutal sound!
