61 Rainbow

Rainbow is by far Ronnie James Dio's best fronted band. It takes the great singing of Ronnie James Dio, combined with one of the greatest metal guitarists Ritchie Blackmore, to team up and write some really great songs. Too bad after Ronnie James Dio left, the band kinda started to suck. Because of this, they are pretty much the Metallica of all Ronnie James Dio bands.

Ritchie Blackmore, the king of guitar solos, so below. Unbielivable

For me, they were the first to really define what metal would sound like in the future: Dio with his epic voice, Blackmore with his neoclassical playing... Shameful that they're below Evanescence who are not even close to metal. - RalphSaad

Catch the rainbow guys! It's on of the best and underrated group.

62 Mastodon Mastodon Mastodon is an American heavy metal band from Atlanta, Georgia, formed in early 2000 and composed of bassist Troy Sanders, guitarists Brent Hinds and Bill Kelliher and drummer Brann Dailor.

There's no comparing mastodon to anyone on this list they are in a league of their own. I would have expected them to be much higher on the list. They are constantly evolving.

Does somebody want to tell me why Mastodon is bellow AC/DC, Evanescence, Led Zeppelin, and Three Days Grace, bands that AREN'T EVEN METAL! Mastodon revolutionizes the genre, instead of catering to an oblivious public. I'm looking at you Avenged Sevenfold.

One of the best metal bands to play! Ever! No other sound can compare to their own. They changed the world of music to me. Songs like crack the Skye, the last baron, and oblivion have gave me a new outlook on progressive metal, and music in itself. Please give them a listen because they deserve a little respect for the music they create and for their technical mastery!

The only relevant metal band In recent times, fearless talented band with amazing diversity,No other band on this list could hope to be able to write such a varied and also ourstanding catologue
Most complete metal band there is by far

63 Helloween Helloween Helloween is a German power metal band founded in 1984 in Hamburg, Northern Germany. The band is a pioneering force in the power metal genre, and their second and third studio albums, Keeper of the Seven Keys: Part I and Part II, are considered masterpieces of the genre.

Helloween are the best power metal band in the world! only listen their EPIC saga "Keepers Of The Seven Keys", prepare to enter heaven!

How in hell Helloween is 39? They created Power Metal, which is an amazing Metal Style, also they have the best members in this category, awesome composers, great vocals, bass, guitars and drums, mostly drums with Ingo amazing work. They deserve much more than poser bands like Slipknot and A7x

Any band that can lose their lead singer, after making two epic albums, help create new genre, but be followed by low rated let down albums, and then still somehow manage to make a come back with equally awesome music and equally epic singer should be way higher up on a metal list.

Sad this band isn't much higher. Fantastic power metal, and great music throughout their discography.

64 Children Of Bodom Children Of Bodom Children Of Bodom is a melodic death metal band from Espoo, Finland. Formed in 1993, the group currently consists of Alexi Laiho, Janne Wirman, Henkka Seppälä, Jaska Raatikainen and Daniel Freyberg.

I think COB is the best of all ever. And Alexi (The Wildchild ) is guitar guru, I just can't but help listening to them even I can't think of heavy metal without cob... Love you!

Why 18th? Is this some kind of joke! Children of bodom don't deserve to be in the top 20, they deserve to be in the top 3! People should consider looking at the advantage that this band has. They melodic, fast and skilled! Alexi and Roope have absolute technique and speed. Watch the bodom beach terrot solo lesson and see how talented Alexi is. COB IS AWESOME AND THEY SHOULD KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK! NOT MY FUNERAL IS ALSO A GOOD SONG TO PICK UP CONSIDERATION

My personal Favorite band of all time I Loved all their albums.
Their new album is okay, its meh it has some cool solos and guitar playing.

Bloodrunk was awesome though, I don't know why fans complain about it.
I've loved bodom since Something wild and They really progressed their style A lot into a great band.

There is a reason The ESP guitar website puts Alexi Laiho's Name above george lynch, Jeff Hannamen ( slayer), Gus G ( ozzy), Stephen Carpender ( deftones), Mycheal paget ( bullet), Will Adler ( lamb of god), Ron Wood ( rolling stones), Max Cavaleria ( Soul fly, Sepultara)

First fell in love with their newer albums but after a while I have started to love their old ones even more! Amazing guitar solos, GREAT BAND

65 Cattle Decapitation Cattle Decapitation Cattle Decapitation is an American Deathgrind band from San Diego, California formed in 1996. Cattle Decapitation's songs protest the mistreatment and consumption of animals, the abuse of the environment and touch subjects such as misanthropy and genocide of the human race. Much of their music is based more.

A unique style has been crafted by them in the last few years, and it's putridly, violently beautiful. They are amazing.

Metallica is Nursery Rhymes compared to these guys

It's a shame to see this band so low on the list. - Azerix

They combine extreme brutality with intelligence and heart.

66 Shinedown Shinedown Shinedown is an American hard rock band from Jacksonville, Florida, formed in 2001 and founded by members Brent Smith, Brad Stewart, Jasin Todd, and Barry Kerch.

I seen some things man I've seen some stuff I wouldn't recommend it. Shinedown helped me through it, I seen haleys comet and she gave me a second chance

Honestly one of the best bands out there even today, considering they have been making amazing music for over a decade! Love em to death and even after! 3

More rock than metal but some of the best metal songs deserve top five

67 Cradle of Filth Cradle of Filth Cradle of Filth are a British extreme metal band that formed in Suffolk in 1991. The band's musical style evolved from black metal to a cleaner and more "produced" amalgam of gothic metal, symphonic black metal and other extreme metal styles.

Cradle of Filth should be in the top ten! My preference laugh out loud

Another day, another fad. People will be still (yawn) be talking about Master of Puppets, Reign In Blood, Peace Sells in 100-years time whilst this rabble will just be obsolete.

Their lyric can make a movie you know

Horrible band - jack2244

68 Agalloch Agalloch

Positively surprised to find them on this list, considering they aren't that popular outside of the underground black metal scene. This band has produced some of the most beautifully haunting and atmospheric albums I've ever heard. They're beyond great and deserve way more recognition.

In fact their sounds are the best folk metal I heard till now.

69 White Zombie White Zombie White Zombie was an American heavy metal band that formed in 1985. Based in New York City, White Zombie was originally a noise rock band, and was known for its later heavy metal-oriented sound.

If there were more records, he would definitely be higher on my list. Saw a few youtube videos, and they were pretty atrocious live, but the records are awesome!

Love rob zombie in his work. They should be in the 60s-70s not 160!

1. KoRn
2. White Zombie
3. Black Sabbath

70 The Acacia Strain

Highly underrated simply due to be pigeon holed into the hardcore genre. Heavy, destructive music.

The baddest band ever. Pure brutal sound!

71 Gojira Gojira Gojira is a progressive metal band from Bayonne, France. The band was known as Godzilla until 2001. Gojira is composed of Joe Duplantier on vocals and rhythm guitar, his brother Mario Duplantier on drums, Christian Andreu on lead guitar, and Jean-Michel Labadie on bass.

Simply put, Gojira is one of the best metal bands in the past decade- Between their strong lyrics, powerful guitar playing, and one of the best drummers hands down, they are a powerhouse that deserves a spot in the top ten. For God's sake, these guys made me regain some respect for France! (their home country)

I'd say at least half of the bands on this list aren't even metal, or are casually heavy at best. Gojira makes Bullet for my Valentine look like Hawthorne Heights.

Guys, seriously? Haven't you heard of the name? Gojira should at least be in the top 20. Give a listen to them and you'll be tripping balls. They're easily one of the heaviest and consistent bands here.

Actually, seeing Bullet for my Valentine higher on the list than Gojira makes me sad. Smart lyrics, heavy yet somewhat catchy riffs and insane drumming, this band has it all.

72 Mudvayne Mudvayne Mudvayne was an American heavy metal band from Peoria, Illinois formed in 1996. Originally from Bloomington, Illinois, they are known for their sonic experimentation, innovative album art, face and body paint, masks and uniforms.

Chad Gray is a beast, no way around it he is a better vocalist than most of the singers in these bands are. Honestly it's because the bands being "Nu Metal" that Mudvayne and Korn are so low. Even though they are more alternative metal than nu metal. Back to Mudvayne, look at some of their older stuff Dig, The End of All Things to Come, World So Cold, Happy, Determined, Just.. Anything off their first 3 albums is great. I don't know about their new stuff I haven't heard any yet. As for their hiatus, Chad is now doing albums with Vinny Paul in the band Hellyeah so give them a try too, they're pretty good.

This is some bull Mudvayne defined heaviness in vocals and guitar especially Chad greys awesome vocals he can go from singing softly to all out screaming and growling in 5.4 seconds, people mudvayne was the beginning of heavy vocals, vote higher people and all their albums are great I've listened to all of them and haven't found a single track that sounded like complete! Mudvayne deserves top 20 at least, mudvayne is right up there with Korn and mushroomhead, if you really value today's modern metal you would vote for mudvayne.

Should be at number 1. Chad gray has best voice among these band. This band have created some epic song does not deserve rank 54.

This band should be in the top tens

73 Sonata Arctica Sonata Arctica Sonata Arctica is a Finnish power metal band from the town of Kemi, Finland. Created as a hard rock band named Tricky Beans, they later changed to Tricky Means and finally to Sonata Arctica, when they shifted to power metal.

One of THE BEST bands I've ever heard, n fact my favourite band of all time. I really don't understand how SA can be so far down on this list, they deserve to be number 1! I know power metal is not a well-known genre but when you look deeper than Metallica or Slipknot, you can find gems like this band, it's a shame they are so underrated... I discovered them at a time in my life when I was depressed as well and never had I known that a band like this could change my life, and even the songs are very relatable to me. The lyrics are like poetry to me, and every track is beautifully composed, both lyrically and melodically. The keyboards and guitars are extremely talented and Tony Kakko's vocals are sublime - Tony has an amazing voice! Sure, they have evolved their power metal style to a more progressive genre, but that is not necessarily a bad thing, as I feel their newer albums have a lot more meaning, and connection to the listener and are a lot more complex, however I still can never ...more

Sonata Arctica have had a popularity fall with their newest albums, The style is more mainstream and love related from before when there was more anger and moral choices. They still holds one of the two best albums ever made in the "power metal" genre. Winterheart's Guild and Reckoning Night. With their stunning preformance with "The Cage". Great band, but I understand the low rating, since power metal is not really a popular genre.

If you're unfamiliar, listen to White Pearl, Black Oceans. One of the greatest songs I've heard

74 Burzum Burzum Burzum is an influential black metal solo project of Norwegian musician and writer Varg Vikernes. Burzum came to prominence at the beginning of the Norwegian Black Metal scene in the early 1990s. Vikernes was imprisoned for 21 years for the murder of Mayhem guitarist Euronymous, and charges of church more. has new meaning...

This guy is amazing, sure, he killed a man and burnt a few churches, but it adds to the black metal euphoria-thing.

Classic. And you know it

Ps if you're reading this you must be seriously bored. Get off the internet for a while, engage in a hobby

75 Amorphis

Amorphis is the best group in dark and doom metal. I love the singer of this group Toni.

I am a huge fan of all the top bands here. Metallica, Iron maiden etc. Even the high ranked metalcore like Avenged Sevenfold and Bullet For My Valentine and the progressive metal of Dream Theater is simply wonderful. However one of my musician friends introduced me to Amorphis and that's where I found folk metal.

Since then Amorphis has captivated me unlike anything else. The musical melody while preserving the acute skillset, energy and roar of metal is simply amazing. Try a few songs by Amorphis. Sampo, Silver bride and My Kantele are just a few gems. Personally I hold this band at par with all the greats I mentioned before. I'm sure that once you try out their music, you will come back and give this amazing (Arguably one of the finest) band a well deserved vote. - Skymoon22

78 Rise Against Rise Against Rise Against is an American hardcore punk band from Chicago, Illinois, formed in 1999. The band's current line-up comprises vocalist/rhythm guitarist Tim McIlrath, lead guitarist Zach Blair, bassist Joe Principe and drummer Brandon Barnes. They are known for popularizing punk.

Rise against is not a metal band, they're a punk band pure and simple, and a very good one at that.

Did they - or any other Punk band for that matter - have an impact on metal? If so, they're rightly here. If not, fair enough. I often look at Dead Kennedys track Drug Me and In God We Trust ep as influential for its hardcore aggression, and I know Sepultura cover them. Ponderous.

Guys, how could this band is not in the list! This band has all the power, riffs, vocals and lyrics. This is the best band and it is modern band. We should give them a credit for what they deserve.

Not metal. anyway I don't like their heavy songs. rather I prefer their soft songs more. - zxm

79 Behemoth Behemoth Behemoth is a Polish blackened death metal band from Gdańsk, formed in 1991. They are considered to have played an important role in establishing the Polish extreme metal underground.

Metallica are not a trend, not in the slightest. They are the greatest trendsetters in metal history. People love them for what they did do, not what they didn't. Progressive Tech Thrash is not radio-friendly.

If this list was actually a top ten list, this band would be there, the only reason Metallica is popular is the same reason that Justin Bieber is popular, it's a trend...

Favorite blackened death metal band. Nergal is definitely a virtuoso

Hell yeah

80 Suicide Silence Suicide Silence Suicide Silence is an American deathcore band from Riverside, California. Formed in 2002, the band has released four full-length studio albums, one EP and eleven music videos.

Suicide Silence is not metal. They're also absolutely awful, I took a dump yesterday and it sounded better than their music.

Why is everybody hating on these guys? Sure they ain't the best but come on they're not complete crap. Why don't you hate on something more deserving like Bring Me The Horizon.

The pole mitch hit was heavier and more metal then him

Why do you say deathcore isn't metal? I can understand disliking it, but you can't say it's not metal. lol - IslanD
